'Fleming' biopic in the works
According to the LA Times, Leonard DiCaprio has become a producer on 'Fleming', a screenplay by Damian Stevenson about the life of James Bond's creator, Ian Fleming.
The current version of the screenplay begins on the eve of Fleming's wedding to Ann Rothermere, which took place shortly before the publication of Casino Royale, followed by flashbacks to Fleming's earlier years with Reuters, and then with Naval Intelligence during World War II.
Producer Andrew Lazar pointed out that the aim is not to emulate the Bond films, but rather to show the fascinating way that Fleming's own life "informed the James Bond character".
This is not the first production to tell Fleming's story. 1989's, 'Goldeneye' starred Charles Dance as Fleming. Also in 1990 Jason Connery played Fleming in 'The Secret Life of Ian Fleming', and in 2005 'Bondmaker' starred Ben Daniels as Fleming.
