Shadows of the Past is the final instalment of the thrilling Alexander Thorndyke trilogy. It conjures up a tale full of twists and sleights of hand that pit our favourite hero against situations that only he can deal with - granted he has help along the way with allies both new and old - but at the end of the day 007 is both prey and predator - and once again freeing Ana (the little girl he rescued in Death Without Notice) becomes the key to survival.
SMERSH are also involved with a power struggle at its top and along the way Bond’s late Father - in - Law’s criminal syndicate The Union Corse enter the fray.
Things can’t surely get more exciting than this! Well they can - as assassin’s get given directions we begin to wonder who is pulling all the puppet strings - and what has a Television celebrity Magician Salazar got to do with it? Well read this and find out. Oh and we mustn’t forget the danger Bond’s old friend Mathis is in, as he helps organise the security of the new G8 summit.
This is without doubt a scintillating sizzler of a read and the climax everyone has been waiting for.
