In the scene where Bond returns to the hotel to be greeted by M, after he escapes capture in the lift and makes his way back to his room (or M). When he bumps into her in the corridor she says to him "there's a capture or kill order on you" to which Bond replies "I wonder who would have done that" as he turns to look down off the balcony. The scene then cuts to Tanner who is running up the stairs, seemingly after Bond? Is Bond insinuating that Tanner made the CoK call or have I read it wrong?

I re-watched QoS last night and there was one question in my mind. When Bond had a hold of Greene over the ledge, why is it that he pulled him up and let him go? I remember him saying something to Camille about only needing one shot at revenge... make it count. Does this have anything to do with it?

after watching it for the first time in ages, i realised that it really has no separate storyline apart from the small sub-plot about the quantum group, who were associated with CR. My thought after watching it again was that it was like what Harry Potter films had done. The last film was split into 2 parts. Interesting i thought. Basically this movie is a carry on from CR

Really tried to figure out what makes it so bad for me. I have to say it's the editing (as has been mentioned before). The movie has it's moments where its nice to watch, but then BAM...........when there's an action sequence, the amount of different shots/angles becomes nauseating. I especially noticed this during the boat chase, opera, and plane dogfight. When I first saw it in the theatre, my favorite part was the knife fight, and on watching it again with the editing in mind, there were not too many different shots/angles compared to the other action scenes.
I really didn't like the way the editing tried to be "artsy" by switching back and forth between the opera death scene and the foot chase....I kept flashing back to the organic scenes in MR.

A few months ago, I had read on MI6 website that Marc Forster was working on a collector's edition DVD of Quantum of solace. Has anybody heard anything about this collector's edition DVD since then? When is it being released? He had said that this DVD might also contain that famous deleted scene where Bond confronts Guy Haines and Mr White in the end which Forster chose to delete from the final movie. The reason I was looking forward to this DVD was because I was fairly impressed with Casino Royale collector's edition which had a ton of extra material as compared to the initial DVD release and I was expecting that Quantum of solace also deserved to have a collector's edition DVD as well.

I supose everyone else has noticed Craig's twin brother driving the truck in the pre-title credits. Through the tunnels at the very beginning when Bond gets the DBS stuck alongside the lorry. The guy is wearing sunglasses, but has the same looks as Craig and the same hair, and when he fights against the wheel even pulls the same sort of expression. I can't be alone in noticing this, and the first time I saw it I was even confused for a moment. Why the hell did they pick someone so similar?

The brutality of QOS

Random thought but I wonder if the overt brutality exhibited so frequently in QOS is a conscious or subliminal even turnoff for some folks. There's zero twinkle to the violence depicted and no real romance subplot to distract from it - the main female character's backstory itself is the grimmest in the series since Honey Ryder's, the resolution to it being a quite literal nightmare for Camille (those far-away dream-screams as the flames eat through room are chilling). And has there been a colder kill for Bond in the series than Slate's death, Bond holding him in a wrist-lock until he bleeds out? This is an unpleasant film to watch! Then again, Fleming is one of the more unpleasant-to-read authors on my shelf, flinching from sadism just didn't seem to be in his makeup. In CR, Bond has Vesper and gets to comfort her (and, vicariously, the audience) through all the violence; in QOS Forster leaves us and Bond on our own to deal with death after messy death. And not just the bad guys die horribly, Fields and Mathis meet very cruel ends and in both cases Bond can do nothing in the immediate circumstances but keep moving forward towards what cannot possibly be a satisfying conclusion (it is in a way but a very internal one, no visible fireworks at all).

I guess it's why I'm such a fan of it: the barebones and forward-moving story, the dour tone and brutality, the simple and yes poetic ending all scream Fleming to me. It's also one of the most Bond-centric films in the series, very little happens on-screen that Bond isn't somehow in on (one scene with M and the Foreign Minister, an early scene and a late scene depicting the arc between Greene and Medrano but that's about it for anything of importance). It also drags Bond through a backwater pretty well, yeah there's a fancy dress ball and glimpses of the highlife in Italy and Vienna, but the fiery second half in the desert and slums of Bolivia hark back to the best of Fleming's adventures wherein he tests Bond's mettle against, say, an island (DN) or a less than posh setting (YOLT, and even the extended trek/escape down the mountain from Piz Gloria in OHMSS).

I've read complaints that QOS doesn't have the usual EON light touch about it, but it what it has instead is a much truer - and brutal - Bond and a world for Bond to move through that matches what Fleming wrote in his novels and short stories perhaps better than any other film in the canon. Not what fans of the Bond films expect to get from EON, and doubt we see its like again. Anyway, has anybody else observed or felt trampled on by all that ugly death in QOS?

(oops, just realized I meant to put this in the QOS forum, my bad <img src="http://www.ajb007.co.uk/img/smilies/ajb007/insane.gif" alt="ajb007/insane" /> if there's a nice mod around who could relocate it, that'd be very cool <img src="http://www.ajb007.co.uk/img/smilies/ajb007/cool.gif" alt="ajb007/cool" /> )

(thanks! <img src="http://www.ajb007.co.uk/img/smilies/ajb007/cheers.gif" alt="ajb007/cheers" /> )

Just wondering what the thoughts where on These Two films. For the First time two Bonds where going to be linked, one story leading to the next. When decicing on a director should Eon of made it part of the contract that Both films had to be made by the same director and Basic crew.
I'm not saying Campbell was better than Forster , or getting in to the old argument about QOS. Just on a cinematic point. I think it would of helped the look of the two movies if they had of had the same hand directing them. I'd love to read other views.

I appreciate this is my first post to this site, and thus I'm a rooky. But I was wondering, with all your collective wisdom on James Bond, if any one could clarify something.
If it has already been posted I apologise.
Why does Le Chiffre, in CR, tell Bond that 'Your friend Mathis, is really my friend Mathis' if Mathis wasn't really a double? After Mathis' interrogation he's set free, and then in Quantum of Solace Bond instantly trusts him again? Also on a similar note, if Mathis wasn't the double then who told Le Chiffre about the bluff? And, last one, why is Vesper receiving a text of Mathis odd to bond, when she excuses herself, after he's won the tournament, from the table he takes a few minutes to absorb the information then quickly assumes something is out of place... in the book this part is considerably clearer, why not in the film
Any thoughts would be appreciated
Thanks
JB - My real initials honest <img src="http://www.ajb007.co.uk/img/smilies/ajb007/rolleyes.gif" alt="ajb007/rolleyes" />
