They had shorter lengths of time between Bond movies back in the 1960s and early 70s.
I think this is a good point. One of the reasons that Dalton bailed is the length of time he had been associated with Bond he felt was disproportianate. I think a lot depends upon how good, and how well received 23 is will influnce DC's inclination to pick up the option for his fourth or not. I seriously doubt that he will want to go beyond 4. I'm fairly convinced that either way it will be his decision.

Cheer up. In an alternative Universe If Ms Brocoli had got her way we would probably have had to suffer Sean Bean and may still have him in place today.
I can't remember where I saw this news and you may have discussed it before (as I'm a newbie to this forum) but Bond 23 will be the final chapter in the trilogy of CR, QOS and Bond 23 and the storyline they are following. A perfect time for DC to just walk away.
Personally I think he'll wait to see how much they offer him '$$$' after Bond 23.
As Barbara Broccoli has stated many times, the part is DC's as long as he wants it. He has said as long as he likes the scripts he'll keep doing it. When joking about leaving in an interview she freaked out and clutched him as if he were her child!
If after a couple of more films he speaks of walking away, I'm certain they will throw a ton of cash at him. They paid him a bonus AFTER CR came out because it did so well. There were many reasons why CR was a success but you have to accept the fact that the main reason is Craig himself. He's not going anywhere as long as they are producing films on par with the last two.
He is the most physically fit Bond to date, and as others have said he is aging very well. Take a look at some photos from earlier in his career - he has the coveted "male secret weapon" of getting better looking as he ages!

IMO, I can see Dan doing a fourth Bond film after No. 23, provided they don't take six years like last time to release it. Whether or not he'll do a fifth film or so is a bonus.
I dearly hope he makes a third and fourth film.
Watched CR and QoS yesterday again and love them both.
I certainly think he will end up doing 23 (despite the delay) and that he will not do 24. We've had Bond actors do 6, 1, 7, 2 and 4 now we need a 3 and a 5 to complete the counting. I doubt DC will be the 5...so lets make him the 3.
