Topic: I'm thinking of writing a 007 stage play.

Well its  been a while but as I haven't written any fan fiction for a while  -I've decided to once again throw my trilby into the gunbarrel  and write something. Instead of going for the obvious -a short story or a novel or even a film script -I have decided to write a play for the stage. Obviously this will bring about certain limitations,  but hopefully with good enough dialogue and direction I should be able to produce something suitable for AJB and your pleasure. It will undoubtedly take some time as I do not have anywhere near as much free time as I used to -but hopefully it will be worth the wait.

Feel free to comment on anything you would like to see in the play. This may inspire me more as I get writing and help me develop the plot into the necessary acts.

Hm, interesting idea. If you are prepared to deal with the limitations a play imposes, why not go the whole distance an do a chamber play? Just Bond, villain and girl, trapped in a single location. Say the salle privée of a casino? Trapped by ... an earthquake? All the other players and staff managed to leave before the roof came down. Bond stood behind because he's after the villain. The villain stood behind because his girl sprained an ankle. There is a small bar, Bond pours a champagne for the lady. The villain is suspicious of Bond, the girl attracted to him. The dialogue unfolds, villain and Bond circling each other, so on.

I'm not young enough to know everything.

Interesting idea there Liam although as this will be my first foray into writing for the stage - a chamber play may possibly be beyond  my skill as yet -but I will bear it in mind and maybe utilise it in the first act to some degree. ajb007/bond

I thought because 'stage' is generally for the most part a dialogue-controlled affair and with a smaller cast the difficulties would be easier to control (no idea if that is indeed so; I've got no experience with this!). Also the approach would hold back Bond's real assignment. Bond could be after the villain, but perhaps not to kill him. Rather to make him defect? Being cut from his bodyguards could be an advantage. But the girl could be a liability there. All that could be revealed gradually over the scene. Meanwhile, the villain's bodyguards try to reach their trapped boss, finally giving opportunity for some hand-to-hand fights.

After doing some thinking I have decided to write a stage adaptation of From A View To A Kill. It is really just an experiment at the moment. If I can write a decent enough adaptation - I will then attempt to write a completely original tale in the form of a play. The reason I've chosen FAVTAK is because it is short and has a small cast of characters. There will no doubt be many limitations doing this. Plus  some scenes may well not adapt to stage and therefore will have to be alluded to via dialogue. Over all though it is an interesting little project and the initial opening scene I've written has been enjoyable. I look forward to sharing it soon.

I like your idea very much Sc1! I have often thought that FAVTAK might be a good story to adapt into a script for a short film. Your idea of doing it as a play might be equally interesting. I'll follow this project with keen interest.

That sounds like an excellent concept, SC1! I'm looking forward to reading it. Sure wish Si could get the fan fiction section up and running again...there were still several contributions I haven't read yet.

I don't like to knock, but it's hard to envisage Bond as a play. Usually it is so visual. Something like the golf scene in Goldfinger maybe or the card game in Casino Royale... I hope you can pull it off though. Take a look at much of Agatha Christie's work, which make excellent plays. Something with large amounts of one-to-one dialogue. Maybe Bond as the orignal investigator ie Dr. No.

Wow. Good luck with that SC1!

I've been thinking of doing proper adaptions of the novels in script form. Maybe a few of us can do it together? Just an idea. ajb007/lol
