Does anyone here love both Moore and Dalton?

A question I came up with....I was at another forum t'other day and saw that one poster had ranked Roger and Timothy as his two favourite Bond actors. Now, it struck me that this isn't a very common preference among Bondists, and understandably so, as Moore and Dalton are pretty much polar opposites as Bond - Sir Roger representing the all-out bombastic cinematic Bond and Dalton playing the gritty, down-to-Earth Bond. It's even a common mantra among Daltonians that he saved the series from the purported campiness of the Moore era. So, are there any fans who love both? There must be some....

    I don't. But I'm sure somebody does.

I'm one of the few that likes both a lot. However i couldn't say Moore is my favourite.
My favourites are Dalton & Connery. followed by Craig, Brosnan & Moore i think. My order has changed a bit. Despite Moore being 5th on my list, his films are amongst my favorites. TSWLM, FYEO, OP, AVTAK all very good.

Thats what is great about Bond. You can have two actors play the part two different ways and both can be great at it. Roger always thought there should be humor in Bond. while Dalton saw bond as gritty and humorless. I think both are great, how boring would it be if every actor played the part exacly the same. We all have our favorites but I always appreciate each actors inerpatation of the role.

I think it's a case of liking Both but for different reasons, I grew up as a kid watching Sir Roger so always liked him, so depending on the mood I'm in I can either watch some lighearted fun like "SPY" or some thing a little harder in LTK.

Ahh yes. That would be me my friend.

They are opposites in many ways, excluding Moore's performance on FYEO. I loved Moore's performance, whether it be campy, serious or a mix of both. Though, I did find FYEO to be Moore's greatest Bond performance because I loved the harder-edged down to earth Bond, and the 80's seemed to do that a lot. FYEO, TLD and LTK were the films that clearly represented a serious, Ian Fleming and down to earth Bond. OP was the only Bond film of the 80's that showed an excessive amount of campiness, and it did effect its rank in my opinion because elements such as the Tarzan Yell, the Gorrilla Costume or the Clown suit did seem a bit over the top. AVTAK was a mix of camp and seriousness, but Moore seemed a lot more serious on his FYEO and AVTAK performances.
Dalton's portrayal on TLD is excellent, can't go wrong there. I loved it how he stuck with the novels, hard-edged and serious. He was also great on LTK, but maybe a bit too serious to the point where there wasn't much fun involved on his second mission.

Then again, loving Moore as well, MR was a terrific film for me. I loved it, and Moore was quite hilarious but great in the role here. Each of his movies seemed to express a different approach, even just slightly. I can't really explain it anymore, I loved Moore's performances and Dalton's, but the harder-edged ones (FYEO, TLD and LTK) are the definite best.

I do like them both. For me Dalton is #3 whilst Moore is #4 but sometimes they inter-change depending on my mood. They are both good but for different reasons IMO. Moore is good for entertainment value and has a likeability about him that always puts a smile on my face. Dalton however is probably the more credible, authentic 007. Hence he is slightly higher in my ratings.

Count me in the liking both Moore and Dalton catagory. It's kind of similar to liking the old Batman TV show and still liking the darker films. One is fun the other more serious. But the fun ones were needed to keep the character around. Moore's Bond films are still a lot of fun. Even FYEO which many consider Moore's serious turn has many funny moments like the car chase and ski scene.

Well Roger Moore is my favorite Bond, always has been. It was late of his Bond career when I was born, but those were the movies that used to be shown on tv when I was a kid. So I got into liking Sir Roger Moore as Bond and even though many of his movies may not be the best there is, he's humor and the more light approach really got to me. Even today there's none other better Bond to my likeness than Roger Moore. Then came Living Daylights that I didn't see until later on, I happened to see Licence To Kill first. At first I didn't like Dalton that much, but the more I saw the film the more I liked the"new" Bond. Even today Licence To Kill ranks as the most viewed Bond movie to myself and the most viewed film ever along with The Good ,The Bad and The Ugly. I always felt that Dalton was a spot on Bond and highly underrated. So yeah I definitely like both Moore and Dalton. I would rank my favorite Bonds, as Moore 1st, Connery 2nd and Dalton 3rd.

Both actors' set of films had some good elements. FYEO, Octopussy and TLD had good plot material but I still feel that they could have loosened up with the seriousness rather than pushing constantly for grittiness- Dalton had humour but it is sparse and a lot of the time overlooked, generally by reviewers. A lot of the supporting characters are quite lightweight- in FYEO I think the only supporting character with some depth was Columbo- it is an interesting idea that a man who was thought to be the villain has actually had a string of lies pinned on him-but I wanted to know a bit more about the men who fought beside him in the warehouse and on St Cyrils.

Moonraker has some of the best moments of the whole series if you dissect them from the gags, but visually it looks great a lot of the time, and I have no problem with Bond being in space. Roger Moore's films had some of the best women in the series.

    Me too....

Moore was the first Bond I fell in love with (TSWLM) - but he just got a tad too old by the end of it - then Dalton came along and was a complete breath of fresh air. :x I was always a fan of Dalton.... since his Jane Eyre days.

Didn't care for Brosnan.... and although Connery is considered the closest to Fleming's Bond, he was a generation removed from me.

(Then Craig came along, and blew both of them out of the water... ;) )

I agree. I grew up watching Sir Roger as Bond, and still love his 007 for the magic & nostalgia. But as a fan of Fleming & the literary Bond, Daltons 007 is on the mark. Would loved to have seen him do more films.

I love both Moore and Dalton's portrayal of Bond, and always will. Moore's best performance was FYEO, his best movie was FYEO as well, while both Dalton's best performance and movie was TLD... Again that is just my opinion.

I have always loved comparing FYEO and TLD with each other, as both have any similarities and directed by John Glen. You must admit there are a lot of comparisons between Moore and Dalton's performances on the two films and there is much to be said about the fact that both are Cold War entries.

I am included in this category. I'm not too picky with my Bond films (Die Another Day is the exception) so I thoroughly enjoy Roger Moore's somewhat cheesy portrayal. At the same time I love Dalton's gritty portrayal that, to me and many others, embodies the novel Bond. For me its all about the entertainment (that doesn't mean I don't have favorites though ;)).
