M really is Silva's mum?

Yup.

Not Bond's mother, despite the over-compensatory effection she treats JB with, but Silva's.

Too wildly improbable?

Interesting theory, however I think Silva's referring to M as "Mommy" when speaking to Bond has more to do with mocking Bond's relationship with "M" and possibly to Bond being sent out on a mission that he was not ready for physically or mentally...more or less sending Bond out knowing he would probably be killed which probably ties in with some other theme or plot point of M's tainted past. There are rumours of a "shocking" twist or discovery during the end of the film, so who knows.

    I'm sure you're probably right.

It just occured to me, though, that with Mendes' artsy-fartsy background and the desire to do something new with the Bond villain concept, it might be an idea. That and it dovetails nicely in with the Bond-M relationship from CR onwards, and Bond's desire now to protect M - his 'surrogate' mum - from her real son (Bond having LOST his parents, accidentally, as a child) ...

A James Bond film about matricide. Has Mendes written all over it... and VERY shocking.

well it's certainly a different idea, don't think i've heard this idea before, but i'm 99.99999% certain its not the case.

Oh ffs! Can someone change the title of this bloody thread? I don't know if the suggestion is right or wrong, but some of us dip in here without looking to find spoilers.

    Just a total punt, Naps.

So why the f should that need a spoiler? It's purely a speculated personal guess.

Do all theoried need spoiler tags? 8-) :o

No, I don't think she's Silva's mum. ( Very close to an old Dr Hook song :)) )
I think he was just talking to Bond as if he was a Naughty child. :D

Le Chiffre says something along this line in the CR novel as well.

"You are not equipped, my dear boy, to play games with adults and it was very foolish of your nanny in London to have send you out here with your spade and bucket."

The part in the trailer reminded me of that scene the minute I saw it.

But I like your theory, it makes sense and would be a great surprise, but I am not sure it is going to happen. We'll have to wait.... :D

I find this whole "M is Bonds surrogate Mum" very crude exposition. It undermines her as a hardarse character. A major mistake of QoS. (Camille and Bond's chat in the plane).

Its clear from the way the line is delivered this is classic Baddie taunts Bond stuff. It seems Silva's disregard for M goes right to the heart of those who would support / protect her. Ie, he sees Bond as no threat at all. - A mistake many have made before! Will be interesting to see the whole thing in context. - Something that trailers are notorious for twisting around.
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

Think you are on the wrong website mate (at least the wrong section) - this is after all under the "Skyfall" part of the forum. Therefore it is ONLY YOUR OWN FAULT that you read this and no one else's so complain about your own stupidity.

If you don't want to know what's going on, the best piece of advice I can give is stay away from here.

Yes, I think that this theory is a load of old bull!

I think she is only a motherly figure to Bond and was once to Silva, hence when asked "Your mother?" in Quantum of Solace, Bond responds, "She likes to think so."

I always took this as a reference to Vesper, no?!

Camille: So, what's your interest in Greene?
James Bond: Among other things, he tried to kill a friend of mine.
    Camille: A woman?
James Bond: Yes. But it's not what you think.
    Camille: Your mother?
James Bond: She likes to think so.

It was in reference to M getting attacked, as I understand it. "But it's not what you think," rules out lovers, which is what Camille was asking when she wanted to know if it was a woman.

Oh, I see. That little scene never made much sense to me before, as if it had of been Vesper, it was in the present tense, and she is dead, of course. :)
