What gun and Car would you issue him with, any ideas ?

Now I'm no expert, but I think the a lock 17 would be my choice.

" Designed for professionals, the GLOCK 17, in 9x19, is the most widely used law enforcement pistol worldwide. Because of its unsurpassed reliability, above-average magazine capacity of 17 rounds in the standard magazine, and its low weight, it is trusted by law enforcement officers around the globe. With our revolutionary "Safe Action" trigger system, the G17 9x19 pistol is safe, easy, and quick-just what you need in high-pressure situations. "

Sounds good to me ( although as I've pointed out I don't know what I'm talking about ;) )

As for his car,
To keep with Fleming's tradition I'd give him the Bentley Continental GT.
Any other opinions ?

I would make it bang up to date (like Deaver, but more British).

The 00 section has been contracted out to G4S as a cost saving measure, and James Bond is now the proud holder of an SIA license, not to kill but to view CCTV and act as a Security Officer. He used to be a Bouncer from Halifax but now he deals with all of the things the SIS can't be bothered with. Due to budget constraints the 00 section isn't based in VBX but is now in Bognor Regis.

Ah no, that is an aside, if I was giving him a new firearm it wouldn't be a Glock 17, it's quite old technology now and virtually everyone has one.

I would give him something along the lines of the Sig P228, 9mm with a decent magazine capacity, small enough to be easily concealable.

Also, looking at the way the new Q was with him when they first met, I wouldn't be surprised if there was some kind of less than lethal weapons, like a taser.

The Sig 228 and Glock 17 are far too big for espionage, especially the Glock. The Glock 26 might work at a push, but it is still too wide when there are better options out there. The Walther PPS is ideal, as well as some slim and compact Sigs. There are some fine sub-compact 1911's too, but in the regions Bond operates, 9mm would be more readily available over the .45s.

My preference is Bond adventures between the late 50's and early 70's. Aston Martin's and Walther PPK's.

There are 2 rules for future Bond novels:

    1) Let Deaver and Benson no where near Bond.
    2) See rule number one.
This is where we leave you Mr. Bond. (Pilot, Apollo Airlines)

The first Benson novel ( zero minus ten ) I quite enjoyed, but for me they did go down hill quickly. I
did read them just to say that I had read all the Bond books. :)) , For me High time to kill, is the
Worst Bond book, ever ! :))

I'm not an expert on guns so I'll take the advice of the experts - something light and easily concealable but also packs a punch for its size.

As for cars - no question, the Bentley Continental GT Speed, in this colour:

Although I'm sure Bentley would be able to build a bespoke GT Speed for Bond in matte battleship grey :)

The only issue being the Sig 228 is used for espionage. And I have never found it too large, but in the Bondiverse if he can pack a P99 a 228 is no issue. In an ideal world I would have Bond carrying a highly custom P220, however I realise this wouldn't fit with the series.

No, the SIG isn't used for espionage. It is used by undercover special forces, yes. But that is a huge difference from being a pro active agent for an intelligence service operating within enemy territory. No-one in that role would seriously carry a SIG P228 where being seen to carry a pistol would mean suspicion and/or death. It's too big and prints outrageously, and then you have to factor in the holster. A P228 is wider than a P99 in the butt, but the P99 is too big for concealed carry in that role too because of that. The old PPK can be too big with the spur mag fitted. Even today the most successful covert assassination units of Mossad use a cut down M70. And no one can deny that they are at the pinnacle of efficiency in that role.

If we use the Wiki definition of espionage:
Espionage or spying involves a government or individual obtaining information considered secret or confidential without the permission of the holder of the information.[1] Espionage is inherently clandestine, as it is taken for granted that it is unwelcome and, in many cases illegal and punishable by law. It is a subset of intelligence gathering, which otherwise may be conducted from public sources and using perfectly legal and ethical means. It is crucial to distinguish espionage from intelligence gathering, as the latter does not necessarily involve espionage, but often collates open-source information.

Then yes it is used for espionage, numerous parts of the UK government that conduct espionage (CHIS handling, surveillance and the like).

But we are talking Bond here, Bond is an assassin and covert field agent working for a Govt body. Espionage covers a vast umbrella from industrial to governmental. Espionage is now mostly done from the home or office with a pen or laptop. In Bond's line of work, behind enemy lines and in the field you just wouldn't use a sidearm that is larger than sub-compact. Fleming was not far off in the use of the 418. That is the ideal sized carry piece for deep cover operatives. Of course now we have Kahr's etc to fill the role in a larger calibre. But full sized sidearms like G 17's and SIG 226's are out as well as the more compact versions of them (19's 228's). That's why the PPK and the SIG P230 are still in use today.

no one can deny ASP9MM knowledge on Bond fire arms is 2nd to none , yes the whole Walther (Bond) range is iconic and recognisable, but how about ,bear with Bond uses some outrageous fire arm that the Q dept has invented ,say along the lines of
TMWTGG gun? something he could pack in his case/luggage with out , and the magic word is not attracting any attention too himself if say by chance he gets stopped by the local plod /customs ect after all isn't Bond meant to be a fantasy type of entertainment as opposed to a fly on the wall documentary of what equipment the secret service uses ? just a thought
now time to sit back and wait for the abuse to pour in :)) :))
By the way, did I tell you, I was "Mad"?
  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
In the C Wood book of TSWLM, Bond's gun could be taken apart and hidden in the workings
of an old style typewriter. :D Also this is terrible no one should have to Wait for abuse on AJB. :))

This isn't too far from reality. There are many small custom gunmakers out there that perform miracles on older guns and transform them into viable choices. There are also folks out there that build new models from scratch, a huge success was the Detonics range, and there are many more. So it's highly conceivable that Q-branch could come up with a sidearm of it's own.
