Blanche Blackwell

Did anyone see the recent BBC America documentary on the James Bond films? (Not the Fleming miniseries) They titled it something like "The Secret World of 007" but I think it was really the "Everything or Nothing" documentary, at the very least it took a lot of material from that.

Anyway, I was stunned to see Blanche Blackwell being interviewed, and that she is thriving at the age of 102!

Makes you realize how much longer we might've had Ian Fleming with us had he taken a bit better care of himself.

Maybe, but didn't Fleming want to enjoy everything in life and not just live for long. I remember
reading that Fleming just wouldn't cut back on his smoking and drinking,as he enjoyed them
far too much. Or He lived life with a big L :D ( and Pain with a big P, if you have a prostate problem ) :))

Yes, that's true. Part of the appeal of Bond, and indeed, of Fleming is the hard living.

Don't want that to overshadow the fact that Blanche Blackwell is still with us! That was what completely caught me by surprise.

I only realised that she was still around a few years ago, and at that point she was sub-centenary and I was amazed. Then again, the oldest Holocaust survivor died in London today at age...110!

Blanche Blackwell is also interviewed on camera for the documentary on Fleming that's included on The Living Daylights DVD.

Yep, for some reason I hadn't viewed that one yet, despite having had the set for a few years now. Been slacking, I guess!
