I enjoyed it - but really need to watch it again...the introduction episode of a new Doctor seems to be a bit of a mess (most of the episode taken up by the Doctor 'finding' himself )...the extra time given to this episode helped...Capaldi was very good though...
I enjoyed it, Capaldi will be great. Clara was good too and lots of suggestions of a darker mood this season (I hope!) what I wasn't so keen on was the supporting cast of Madame Vastra et al - I'd like to see them left behind now along with Matt Smith. Curious ending too with Michelle Gomez??
Always takes a while to get used to the new doctor, so those still on the fence need to give it time I think. For my part though, really looking forward to Saturday evenings for the next 12 or so weeks.

people were talking as he wanted to speed up to the good bits ...... When He was Talking ! )

I liked it from when they were sitting in the spooky restaurant but until that I thought it kind of sucked, I didn't get how a green lizard woman could stroll Victorian London so not a good episode for welcoming back stray fans. Couldn't hear the dialogue too well and the music a bit too obtrusive, some rubbish topical satire of sorts about Scotland. They don't seem able to create an atmosphere these days, it is all crash bang wallop CGI as usual, no matter who plays the Doctor.
My wife has the same opinion, she didn't like it at all. Saying
There was nothing in it to make her want to watch the rest.
So I guess at this point opinions are divided.

If you think that complaint was ridiculous, I just read a piece in the Daily Hate about a viewer complaining about the scene where the Doctor plucked out his hair ( and then Clara's). This allegedly triggered the viewer into a bout of self harm-like hair pulling! She's now kicking off about the BBC's insensitivity in showing such a scene...

Did anyone else see last nights episode? I really enjoyed it!
As some have noted the debut episode can wobble about a bit, so I wanted to wait till after last nights before commenting. Mr Capaldi is definatley echoing elements of the earlier versions of the Doctor, but still very much doing his own thing. The balance between him and Jenna Colemsn's Clara is nicely set. - He is cheeky and takes the P, but also makes it clear he respects her and cares about her, but also what she thinks.
I am not going into specifics to avoid spoilers, but as a viewer who drifted off in Matt Smith era, its refreshing to have a story and characters that also reflect earlier eras of Who. It is a bit darker, a bit moodier, but it has (for me at least) classic aspects while still telling new stories and ideas. Who shouldn'tbe doom and gloom, but the character needs a brooding aspect to reflect the scale of enormity of some of his choices.
I finally have two Sci Fi series that I want to watch, and potentially "must see" regular viewing again. More please!

Yes I enjoyed it, sort of Dr Who does Fantastic Voyage. Capaldi is great, he really is playing this so that the viewers, let alone Clara, don't know what he's capable of. The Mr Pink storyline is also looking encouraging. Next week's episode is written by Mark Gatiss, so I'm looking forward to that!

I was a huge Matt Smith fan so it's hard - harder than I expected - to warm to Peter Capaldi. I find him rather dull and charisma-free, I'm afraid. The most interesting aspect of the new series are the 'heaven' interludes. Very intriguing.
I don't think Jenna Coleman is a natural fit next to Capaldi's Doctor. I think her 'alleged' departure is a good thing for the show. She is fine in the role but recasting the companion might help the personality dynamic between the Doctor and the companion. I wouldn't be that surprised if Capaldi is a one series Doctor only but the ratings and general fanbase reaction will determine his fate.
