Beatle Connections to Bond

As I celebrate Ringo's birthday today, I can't help but notice the significant amount of Beatle-Bond connections.

List any of them you've noticed in this thread :) I'll start:

Christopher Lee, who plays Francisco Scaramanga in TMWTGG, appears on the cover of the 1973 Paul McCartney & Wings album Band On the Run.

    A couple of obvious ones:

"That's like listening to The Beatles without earmuffs" line from Goldfinger.

Paul McCartney & Wings theme for "Live and Let Die".
"How was your lamb?" "Skewered. One sympathises."

The first official Bond film (DN) and the first official Beatles single ("Love Me Do") were released within 24 hours of each other.

George Martin, the Beatles producer, would write the score for LALD.

The OST for GF would knock the Beatles off No1 in the US charts on its release.

Richard Vernon, who plays Colonel Smithers in GF, appears in A Hard Day's Night as the man on the train.
"I travel on this train regularly! Twice a week!"

Also, Margaret Nolan (Dink in GF) plays the woman at Le Cercle with Paul's grandfather in A Hard Day's Night. :)

There has always been some connections to me between Bond and The Beatles. I think their paths are similar, when compared to the 60's Bonds. Rubber Soul would be the Dr. No. Both were landmark achievements and changed how their field worked. The Beatles re-shaping the album and studio work, Bond changing the landscaoe of the action film. Revolver is From Russia With Love, masterpieces but still maybe underappreciated by the public. Sgt. Pepper is Goldfinger, both considered by most people the best work of their's. Thunderball is Magical Mystery Tour, great parts, (killing of Fiona Volpe, Strawberry Fields Forever) but on the whole isn't as good. Abbey Road is On Her Majesty's Secret Service, both closed out the decade of the 60's, and proved that they could still pull off an amazing album/film despite controversy. An example being the turmoil of the band, and how poorly the Get Back sessions proved, and Bond switching actors to another unknown, this time with no acting experience. And Let it Be, would be Diamonds. Slightly disappointing considering what you expect of the skill you'd seen previously, especially with Connery coming back.

I guess you might be able to compare The White Album to YOLT, by saying that it's not everyone's cup of tea, and there are some weird parts. But, I don't think I'd go that far.

And for some, Roger Moore's films are the Wings of the decade - though bizarrely, just as Macca's later output was more credible yet sold less, so Rog's films are generally regarded as classics in terms of 'greatest hits' moments.

So has John Lennon ever watched a James Bond movie? He must have seen LALD because his old mate Paul wrote the music for it, right? ;)

Sean Connery is the John Lennon of all the Bonds:the rebel and the cool one, Roger Moore is the Paul McCartney: everybody loves him, Daniel Craig is the George Harrison: the mysterious looking one, George Lazenby is the Ringo Starr of the bunch: not very popular but he's still a Bond! ;)

Yeah, though I'd say Dalton is more the George Harrison type.

Back to A Hard Day's Night, and the casino that Wilfrid Brambell (Steptoe) sneaks into is obviously modelled on the one Bond is seen at in Dr No.

And of course, Daniel Craig = Old Man Steptoe... :D

There used to be a website detailing the discography of The Bondles, complete with a full-set of parody album covers.... anyone know if that still exists?

And not forgetting that Ian Fleming was nicknamed "Thunderbeatle" (due to the fact he drove a Thunderbird car) by his wife Ann and her friends as well as "the fifth Beatle".
"The tough man of the world. The Secret Agent. The man who was only a silhouette." - Ian Fleming, Moonraker (1955).

Many of the Beatles also owned Aston Martins!
    I know that Paul had a DB5 and a DB6.
Reputedly, Lennon had quite a few cars, including Astons.
Rowan Atkinson (off topic?) is a HUGE Aston collector, and also races one.

Grace Slick had a DBS 6, 1968 black on black, blew the engine, an had an American V8 w/autobox installed at a shop in Sausalito.
She later donated, or abandoned as rumour has it, the car at Stanford Hospital, and it sat for years under a cover, until a local man peeked under the cover after getting lost in the car park visiting his newborn grandson...then the car was put up to auction for charity.
I know the feller who bought the car at the auction, (same man who first spied it under the cover), and there were many cigarette burns in the back seat. Ash trays were filled with God-knows-what, and he left them in the same condition!
Feller who bought the car is Moore, Jim Moore.
I tried to help him find a proper AM twincam 6 to bring the car back to her original state, but the cost of a drivetrain is more than he paid for the car!

When the Beatles are talking about "A Hard Days Night", Lennon butts in "it's not as good as James Bond though is it."
