If you had to pick YOLT or TSWLM?

Yikes! I definitely don't want to get into a Sean Connery vs. Roger Moore debate.

Neither do I, but then again a proper face-off between YOLT & TSWLM shouldn't ultimately boil down to simply "Sean Connery vs. Roger Moore". They should be compared for their production quality & screenplays, if anything; both have nearly identical plotlines, not to mention the fact that they share a common director in Lewis Gilbert. No verdict of any movie should rest entirely on the shoulders of its lead actor. I mean, even the inimitable Sean Connery starred in Diamonds Are Forever. :p

    1) The Spy Who Loved Me 2) On Her Majesty's Secret Service 3) GoldenEye 4) Casino Royale 5) Goldfinger

I'd go for The Spy Who Loved Me. Just a classic, fantastic Bond Movie.

I think I'll sit this one out. :007)

On a more serious note I think I would go for TSWLM (just)

I love many elements of YOLT but the turning Japanese thing gives TSWLM the edge (besides its Moores finest Bond flick)

Out of these two, I would pick Moonraker. :D

I pick the lesser of the two evils and pick Spy. Although, I really don't care for either movie.

I don't think Ringo Starr would approve. 8-)

TSWLM pretty easily for me. YOLT is in my top 15, close to top 10. TSWLM is top 5 in my ranking though. Lewis just takes everything he did from YOLT and improves on it.

    Thunderturd to - this choice.

Scuse the language, but this is an annoyingly clever question because I canna make a choice here. Setting aside the cast, locations, story, set pieces, music and a multitude of other things, the question is also asking me to choose between Little Nellie and The Boatus. No no no. Both Thanks very much!

The introduction of Jaws is a good brownie point for TSWLM

YOLT is undoubtedly great as spectacle. Tantalising locations, marvellous music, sumptuous cinematography & spectacular production design. It's certainly breathtaking.

But TSWLM is the ultimate Bond Greatest Hits package - A ski-chase/parachute jump, rooftop & train fights, motorbike/helicopter/car chases, a gadet-laden Lotus, Bond in naval uniform, Bond in a tux, M & co in Egypt, a villain in an underwater lair, a seven foot henchman with steel teeth, a shark pool, buxom babes of varying nationalities, a Big Battle in a Big Set between sailors & baddies in red boiler suits, a race against time to diffuse a bomb! Really, what's not to like?

    TSWLM wins out for me!

Both are great movies but I would have to pick TSWLM. I mean that is probably one of the most classic Bond films IMO. You have Jaws, Triple X (sexy as hell), and a cheeky Roger Moore as Bond. The script is great, it's the nearing of the Cold War and the Russians and Brits are working together. Just a great film overall and I would rather watch that than YOLT (and I'm a Connery kind of guy).

Isn't the Lotus also sometimes referred to as Wet Nellie? So it's a choice between Little Nellie and Wet Nellie - they must be sisters! :))

I have a reputation for coming up with my own names and nicknames, as M and Captain Scarlet can attest to C&D! But the point still stands. I can't choose between those two classic Q vehicles.

YOLT. Much more imaginative, very 1960s, better locations, better music, all around more entertaining.

I concur. I love TSWLM for Rog & Caroline Munroe, but I gotta be real here.
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

I'd pick TSWLM of these two hugely unbelieveable movies, because I'll believe a secret holowed out volcano lair in an Austin Powers movie more than in a James Bond movie.

    ...and the cast was better...

...and YOLT always puts me to sleep...

I can see where he's coming from, though- Curt Jurgens vs Donald Pleasence, arguably Jurgens wins. Barbara Bach vs Mie Hama, BB wins. Jaws vs Hans, Jaws wins. Moore vs Connery.... well where do we start? :)) Entire threads or websites have ploughed into that one.

And Jaws vs Hans, Jaws wins.
No WAY!!! I totally disagree!! Hans had a cool death! B-)

Hans is flat and uninteresting. Jaws is quirky and has humour.

And to raise the central question:

In TSWLM Roger Moore holds all the aces. He is on absolutely top form- he has charisma, unforced charm, holds his own in the fight scenes, delivers great lines with style, and calmly revels in a script tailored to his strengths. In his scene with Anya discovering Bond has killed her previous lover, Moore more than proves his worth.

In YOLT Connery is never less than professional, but never even tries to top his previous performances. There is a definite "been there, done that" feel throughout, and none of his line readings match what he'd done in GF or TB. He goes through the motions with little enthusiasm. He is, however, Sean Connery as James Bond.

    Obviously, Connery wins.
