A problem I have with these episodes, and tonight's was a good example, is that the script is written like it's some snappy screwball comedy, but the director doesn't have comic chops and the music is so all intrusive I find it hard to hear what they are saying, it's like they are working against each other.
I feel like the new Who just hasn't found his feet yet, it should be there but somehow isn't.

Fun episode. A mummy chasing people around the Orient-Express-in-Space. . .has a definite Tom Baker vibe, then changes gear with a neat reveal. And Coleman in a flapper dress. . .words fail me. . .

While some of the writing hasn't been of the best and some of the stories quite perfunctory, it is quite clear Capaldi has nailed Who, even in such a short time, in away none of his immediate predecessors have.
Makes me wonder that to make Who a true character rather than a drippy, temperamental young man needs the gravitas only a long career's acting experience can bring. Seems odd that the two other "great" takes on WHO in the recent past, Paul McGann and John Hurt in the 50th Aniv stuff, were both similarly mature?

I wouldn't agree with that...Smith had the Doctor from the very first episode...as did Eccelston...I'm warming to Capaldi...but he needs better stories...

Next week is start of the 2 part finale (part of which I saw being shot in Cardiff) and it looks a good one.
I remember seeing Capaldi summing up the season before it began when he was promoting the series in Australia with these words: "trust no one" -wondering if the trailer for next weeks episode was starting to reveal some details of that???

Yes...another of the better episodes...next weeks should be good...
I liked this episode--especially the little "nods" to the past, like the Cybermen leaving their "tombs" and marching down the steps of St. Paul's. And Missy. . .well, I kept expecting to find out she was actually The Rani, but what was revealed. . .hmmmm. . .
Good episode, nice reveal of the villain too, though I heard rumours sometime back that was how it would pan out, so it spoilt the surprise a bit for me.
Obvious talking point now is that this opens the way for a female Doctor!
