Brosnan's Bond Body

In relation to a recent thread discussion, I watched GE today. I was struck by how lean (and good) Brosnan looked. Contrast this to the sucking in his gut look of DAD. I wonder what happened? Did Pierce let himself go and then miscalculate how long it would take to lose the weight before filming started?
I always referrence the 6' 155 lbs Fleming gives Bond in FRWL. I like a "skinny" Bond.........I think it somehow ties in with the character.
Anyway.....Back to GE. Brosnan's leanness gives Bond's movements an athletic quality that is missing in the other Brosnan Bond films. His suits hang really well on him and the low bodyfat gives his face a more chisled (more Bondian) look. I still think that Brosnan is the closest physically to Fleming's Bond..........especially GE.

    I liked his look in GE. I thought he upped his game in that area for his next two. And in DAD he was still very close to his fighting weight, especially when you consider some other Bond's fourth movies, heh heh. -{

    ?!?!

All 3 Bonds looked in top-notch form in their 4th movies.

Also, was Bond really listed as only 155 lbs in FRWL? 155 is the weight of a 6 foot weakling. In YOLT fleming lists Bond at a much more realistic 182 lbs.

I dont know why you are complaining. Bond enters at thirty-five (or early forties) and leaves during his late forties. Or Rogers case when he is 57. You expect to see him slow down over the years.

Besides with Pierce surely the scripts where the problem - not his girth.

I know he specifically bulked up for TNDs after criticism for being too skinny In GE, and I think he looks his best in that film.

Then again the Bond of the books Was very slim. It's only that it's
Today's fashion for men to bulk up. ;)

Brozzer never looked too great, only in TWINE imo. I mean he seemed to lean in GE, and when he runs down stairs he seems positively camp.

He bulked up in TND but it seems to be thru drinking Guinness, not Hugh Jackman style weights routine. Brozzer does seem a bit lazy that way. Of course, in Thomas Crown Brosnan looks his best, just as Craig looks best in Dragon Tattoo rather than in any Bond film.

He was fat knacker in DAD, esp in view of the hostage plot - say what you like about ISIS but at least you get into shape and they throw in a decent haircut.

There is one shot of Brozzer in After the Sunset where he is on a boat, he is borderline obese. He has had his weight issues over the years but can suddenly shed the pounds when he wants to.

The problem with Brosnan isn't his leanness so much as he didn't look very powerful. Craig is shorter and arguably smaller than him but gives the impression that if they were in an alley fight, he would rip off Brosnan's arm and beat him unconscious with it.

If you're of the 80s and 90s generation, you're used to seeing a leading man built like a bulky action figure, but in reality, a leaner man is more likely to have the endurance and strength pound for pound that would make him the better agent. And at 155 of muscle and no fat, Bond could be very formidable -- faster, more agile and efficient than a heavier opponent.

Nailed it! And despite his size, I have a similar reaction to Roger Moore.

My Bond could beat up your Bond… :))

Although, I agree completely that Craig would rip Brosnan's head off, that doesn't make him a better 007. By those standards maybe Van Damme would be the best Bond.

I couldn't disagree more. I remember very well that he was criticised for being too skinny in GE. As for his suits hanging really well on him, I think the opposite, I see fabric flowing all over the place around his skinny bod. To me it looks like his jackets/trousers in GE are cut to give some mass to his body.

His face looks chiseled and great in GE, I give you that. I used to think his phisyque was the closest described by Fleming too. However, the moment I saw his acting I couldn't see Bond in that physique anymore. Only goes to show how important is getting the right tone. Matter of taste.

True, although I don't recall anyone making that argument. I like Brosnan, but I think Craig is a better Bond for reasons that go far beyond body type.

Craig makes the other actors look out of shape, but in attractiveness hot face/average body will always beat hot body/average face.
