I don't know if anyone else here is a fan, but IMO V For Vendetta shows the direction we are going in as a global Corporate society, and our only way out of it -not in blowing up stuff, that was OTT cinematic drama- but in banding together in our overwhelming numbers to effect change in whatever non-violent ways possible.
Or does anyone here have a different pick for 'relevant movie'?
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

    It was made in 1998, but otherwise "The Truman Show" is very relavant for this century. :#

    It's funny because Alan Moore hates the Film Adaptation of V for Vendetta, even going as far as calling it an 'Abortion'
    1.On Her Majesties Secret Service 2.The Living Daylights 3.license To Kill 4.The Spy Who Loved Me 5.Goldfinger

    Alan Moore is notorious for hating any of the film adaptations of his works. I recently met David LLoyd, the co-creator of V For Vendetta and he told me he really enjoyed the film and it did justice to the original...

    I don't know where The Truman Show is listed as made in 2005/06, but IMDB lists it for 1998:

    Oh, I just googled "The Truman Show 2005". The Special Edition came out on DVD that year :))

    I nominate another 1998 movie: Enemy of the State

    It depicts a society under massive surveilance.

    I'd say The Social Network. It provides an expertly-made depiction of the creation of a crucial lichpin of the social networking craze that is becoming increasingly destructive and all-consuming.

    It's a near perfect film, and more than that it's inspiration for bravery.

    Though not a film but a TV series, Patrick McGoohan's The Prisoner remains IMO the most relevant for the 21st century. Not only did McGoohan predict the use of credit cards, electronic surveillance and bland hostility, he also predicted that society would become increasingly Health and Safety obsessed (the penny farthing with a canopy).

    And of course, the whole premise of the show is the increasing marginalisation and sublimation of the individual (gawd I must have swallowed a dictionary today 8-) ) and most importantly- that man's own worst enemy is himself. :o

    Btw, loved the article of Alan Moore - his pseudonyms, Jill de Ray and Curt Vile, are brilliant- thanks for posting, AOS -{

    I think this is a really good topic, and thought provoking...

    My top 3 would have to be, Social Network, (good choice Blacklighter) An Inconvenient Truth, and Super size me.

    Interesting that all these movies were either based on fact, or docufilms...in fact I'm really struggling to think of one drama, or fictitious movie which answers the question...mind you, I guess we're only 14 years in to the century. :#
