Good people I want to make the community aware of a seller of counterfeit goods on ebay. I was unfortunate enough to be the victim of a con man on ebay who is selling Bond clapperboards which as a Locum Doctor he claimed he was gifted on set. I discovered the item was counterfeit by discovering who made the actual B22 slates & asking them "is this one of yours?"
Ebay were about as useful as a chocolate kettle after the seller agreed to refund once the board was returned. He then claimed to be having difficulty making the refund asking that I send him a request payment. He then cancelled the refund request claiming the clapperboard was received broken & somehow closed the ebay case without my permission. I am now £482.00 out of pocket plus £8.45 return postage.
Both ebay & Paypal have been contacted but the seller was clever enough not to list another B22 board before the 30 day ebay refund period had expired. He was dumb enough to put all his intentions in black & white by ebay's messaging service. He claimed he would refund once the board was returned & even said he was having difficulties making the refund. He then cancelled the paypal refund request claiming the board was broken. My argument to all concerned is "if the board was broken why would he even attempt to make a refund?

Personally, I wouldn't advise that; while these clappers are their own scenario, I don't think it would take much for EON to decide to shut down lesser offenders like those making limited -- but unlicensed all the same -- repro prop runs, etc.; the unintended consequence of calling attention to this could be saying good-bye to the GadgetMeister and others.

Good luck with that! Not sure how it's handled in the UK but in the US, once you start to have a mix of online sale -- particularly if international -- post office (or private carrier), etc., jurisdiction becomes cloudy and no one party seems able to really do anything.
Having been affiliated with eBay I know some of their inner workings; all the same, when there's clear on-going fraud such as this, I don't understand how they can so often let the seller off: The Argentina guy, WENOS in the US ... I'm sure we've all encountered the same dealers who over and over manage to fleece consumers and whom eBay allow to get away with it when we buyers haven't even a single strike against us.

Jeez sounds crap man hope you do get your money back. I just had a similar situation with eBay and some bond autographs. I had to call eBay to get it sorted out. I would try that as all they wanted from me was proof of postage and tracking to confirm it was delivered. They then give you the money and take it from the seller.
Failing that where did you post them back to? Maybe some one is local and could go collect lol.

Here's an update: after the initial 29 days purchase protection lapses with ebay, if you funded your purchase with a credit card, depending on your card provider, your card provider may regard the purchase as a third party transaction such as if the purchase was funded by cash or cheque & offer no protection...not great is it? however paypal offer purchase protection for 180 days. In the case of fraud you have to prove it beyond a shadow of doubt. In this case I was able to track down the original supplier of B22 boards. Not an easy task as there were 3 different suppliers & thankfully they all sung the same tune "not one of ours" therefore the case of fraud was proven to paypal's satisfaction and a refund was made.
If any AJBer finds themselves in the same position with an ebay purchase when ebay's purchase protection has lapsed you may have difficulty reporting the issue as the moment you enter the transaction number paypal refers you back to ebay as they do not have a category to cover the problem on their automated service (their contact us link) therefore google their email address, use that link and send them a personal email. I had to email the details 3 times but thankfully it was third time lucky as the recipient of that email understood and actioned my request straight to a claim which was pretty much reviewed and actioned overnight with a credit to my account within 7 days...thank you paypal -{

Glad it got sorted out. Wish there was a more effective way of dissuading the seller to do that again. The person knowingly sold a fraudulent item and then tried to trick you once again so you couldn't get a refund. Would love if the guy was fined the same amount that you bought the item for.

Technically he was. Paypal can only refund if a seller has the funds to do so. Some years back I got screwed on the bay to the tune of £800 for a fake Omega Seamaster. Paypal found in my favour but the chap had withdrawn nearly all the funds from his account apart from £9 to keep his account open? so £9 is all they could recover. This went to court, he failed to show & received a county court judgement...I didn't get my money back though. Another time, another Omega Seamster. This time the seller did not bother to send anything & I lost £1100, why you may ask?. The purchase on paypal was funded by a credit card & the card company regarded the transaction as a third party transaction & legally they, the banks, do not have to refund your funds under purchase protection. This was a bit more nasty than the current experience because ebay pretty much removed all traces of the transaction including the positive feedback I had received from the seller for instant payment....I've said it before but for effect I'll say it again...BUYER BEWARE!

I am very weary of buying high value items on eBay.
On a positive note I won an awesome midnight blue shawl collar dinner suit on eBay for £21, result and it has hand finished details. Was made for some chap back in the day but we could have been body doubles as it fit that good!
when both the starting price and pictures changed dramatically......went from £274 up to £392.
The original pictures showed a lot of marking on the lenses which the new pictures don't show (too blurred) - might be worth being cautious if you're looking. (I'm not by the way!)
