Moonraker

Ok. I just bought the Bond collection on bluray and I'm watching them all again a little at a time. On Moonraker now. Is it the beers talking or does Drax never say what his evil intentions were with the Moonrakers and nerve gas? Does Bond just figure it out?

He refers to the gas vials as a "necklace of death".

    Must be heavy beer!

For the most part Bond works it out like a detective story getting the pieces as the story goes along, ending with his "Noahs Ark, this operation," observation. However Drax gives a speech on the station, effectively saying how brilliant he is, and the kids of his followers will be the new human race. Bond and Dr Goodhead watching / eavesdropping.

Guts beat me to the punch! Yup, Drax brags about what he about to do to Bond and Goodhead once they are captured. Silly man. Quite heartbreaking Mr Drax.
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

This is one area where MR scores over TSWLM, which it has a lot in common with- the plot is more clearly built up with 007 doing more detection and figuring things out like TB2 says. In "Spy", the plot information is usually given in very brief snippets.

Agreed, Bond actually figures stuff out in MR . :D

By the way, does anybody also think that in MR Moore still looks quite good and in FYEO, just two years later, he looks old? I always have that impression. Did the cameras get better and show more wrinkles?
  • BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 36,053Chief of Staff
In some shots he looks younger (eg when he falls out of the simulator), in some he looks older (when he meets Holly in Venice) but overall yes, he looks great in MR and younger than his years.
He is starting to look his age in FYEO, though again in some shots (in the 2CV with Melina) he looks younger.

Yes, when he falls out of the simulator he looks very young indeed. Also in the temple scenes . The only shot in FYEO where he looks MR-ish is when he's inside the helicopter in the PTS. The rest of the movie he looks his age. Maybe he had put on some weight in those couple of years.

I think his best was LALD in that chesterfield coat, trimmed hair, 44 year old, but looking much younger.

I though Moore looked fine in OP, a little old but still good sadly
By AVTAK, boy had he aged and not well.

Actually, in AVTAK he looks a tad better after having his face seriously lifted and losing some weight. In OP he looks as old as he ever did as Bond IMO.

Have to disagree, Moore looked "odd" in AVTAK ( to me at least ) ;)
Although the older I'm getting the younger he's looking in AVTAK. :))

Yes, he looked odd. Younger but weird. Without his mole he looked different.

A View To A Kill is the one film where Roger really looks his age, but not all the time. There are scenes where he looks gaunt. I have heard that he was ill during production but do not know if that is fact. It might help explain things. He did indeed have some cosmetic surgery after Octopussy but I am not certain that was the factor.

Yep, he mentions in his book (My word is my Bond) that he had a facelift which was not completely healed when they started shootings - I guess a lot of work for the makeup guys and gals
