    What ?:)

Might as well say they are remaking Spongebob Squarepants but without any reference to it so you won't know !

It's an example that I use often, but it's just how I see it. SPECTRE will be an OHMSS remake the same as "The Dark Knight" is a remake of "Batman" (1989) or "Man of Steel" is a remake of "Superman, the movie" and "Superman II". There are so many new characters, plot twists and turns, and the filmmaking process has evolved so much, that I wouldn't say it's a remake. In other words, TSWLM, AVTAK and DAD are closer to being remakes than SPECTRE will probably be.

If you are hoping for a remake of OHMSS then you will be sadly disappointed...no matter how much you try and make it fit...

Well I don't think I'm hoping. I'll be happy to have a new film.

    But...

If one film in the franchise could use a remake it's probably OHMSS based on the well-cited "problems" with the original and the strength of the novel's story.

Other Bond films have quirks, sure, and none of them would really need a remake. But OHMSS has the potential, I think, to be better captured on the big screen.

SPECTRE = a retelling of OHMSS, as others have suspected.

No offense, but I hope you're wrong on every count. I don't want to see any remakes, especially of a Bond film that I consider a classic.

I think OHMSS is a classic, but it's actually got a stronger story than they ultimately captured with the original. I think that makes it worth a do-over.

That and the fact that they love to reboot stuff and they're bringing back SPECTRE... so, why not?

Good points. I would say there are two novels worth revisiting, which are in fact one big story. OHMSS and YOLT.

I just don't see them remaking OHMSS...elements from it could appear - as they could appear from any previous Bond film...but a remake is out of the question...

Bringing back SPECTRE is significantly different from remaking the entire movie. I understand there is more to OHMSS the novel than they included in the film, but I am still opposed to a remake. In my opinion, the original version of OHMSS is so satisfying that there is no need to tell the same story again, even if some of the elements from the novel that were left out are included in a new version. I'm more interested in seeing brand new Bond adventures on screen.

Yes new stories. Re-OHMSS -in the book there was only one helicopter-not 3 and several on the Japanese poster! In the book I liked when being chased Bond turns the diversion arrow around so the villain's car goes over a cliff. In the book Blofeld only meets Sir Hilary Bray, as Bond has to escape quickly. So unlike Telly Savalas he never says "Merry Xmas 007" to Bond. In the book Bond is fed up chasing false Blofelds, whereas in the film he's keen, and tries to convince M.

I just re-read the novel OHMSS. Finished yesterday, so it's fresh in my head. There's actually not much more that could be used. They pretty much filmed the novel verbatim, apart from some settings, and enhacing elements (Tracy and Blofeld meet, for instance).

However, the fact that the original version is totally satisfying (which it is), is probably not a reason not to re-imagine the story, specially after the franchise was rebooted.

The movie is no remake. You can read the first draft on the net. And the whole story is completly different.

I think in the end, somewhat we'll all be happy. The ones who want OHMSS remade and the ones who don't.
