Antisemitism (also spelled Anti-Semitism or anti-semitism) is prejudice against, hatred of, or discrimination against Jews as a national, ethnic, religious or racial group.

You quote a general definition of antisemitism, not of Hitler's or nazism's views on jews. If you had read up on Hitler and nazism you would know his antisemitism was all about race and not about religion. Hitler believed judaism was evil because jews are born evil. If he was motivated by religion he would think jews are evil because judaism is evil. Hitler cared little about religion, to the point of having muslim units fighting in the Waffen-SS.

There are forms of antisemitism that are religious. To our shame Norway had a paragraph forbidding jews and jesuits entry into the country from 1814 to 1851. But a jew could convert to christianity and gain access to Norway. That is (mainly) religious antisemitim - Hitler never really cared about religion.

Number24, if you honestly believe that without politics you can't have a democracy, you must be blind. Do you honestly believe we live in a true democracy here in the uk? No doubt you're an expert on this too.

Oh the right to free speech, the right to vote, the right to do as you're told, the right for people high enough up the ladder to get away with war crimes....

Most modern day conflicts are caused by some form of religious argument, ok so holocaust wasn't mainly based on religious hatred but it was certainly part of it, especially where the masses were concerned. Just because hitler didn't care for religious aspects of his antisemitism doesn't mean his followers or general population didn't take a religious bad view of the Jewish people.

I made no judgment on the quality of British democracy. In a democracy you must have elections, voting, discussions and try to agree on a policy. How on earth do you see this can be done without politics? :))
The only societies where there ( in theory ) is no politics are completely totalitarian regimes. There can be no democracy without politics because democracy is a political system. You may dislike politicians and the way politics is run, that's your right and privilige in a democracy. But that doesn't change the fact there can be no democracy without politics. Please explain how there an be elections to parliaments where people vote on laws and other issues without medeling in politics?

I believe some of the people who commited the holocaust were at least partly motivated by religion. But the people at Wansee and Hitler, the people who started and led the holocaust, were not guided by religion and neither was the nazi ideology. Blaming the holocaust on religion is therefore wrong.

I'm not talking about the quaility of the politicians or the democracy in the UK. I just wonder how anyone imagines democracy without politics and politicians :)) ?:)
Elections without anyone running for office or getting elected :))
Voting in parlaments without anyone there to cast the votes ?:)

    I guess I just can't see it - I must be blind! :))

I for one would be happy with a benign dictator. :)) like
    Thatcher or Blair. :D
It won't really matter much when our Alien overlords take over ! :p
On the topic of democracy and how wonderful it is, have you seen the
    Latest report that states.
1% of the world owns 50% of the wealth. Proof positive that voting changes things
With out all those votes over the years we could have ended up with a tiny elite, say
1% of the population owing say, 50% of everythingand leaving the other 99% with
    What's left !
I'm glad democracy was able to stop that sort of thing happening :))

Again, I haven't said democracy is perfect. What I do want is an answer from you or Minigeff: How would a democracy work without politics?

In my view it's a bit like claiming there can be traffic without movement or wars without cassualties?
  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 21,699MI6 Agent
And don't try answering that democracy doesn't work. Minigeff wrote one can have democracy without politics. Please explain :))

Better, honest people as politicians, is how it should be done. -{ but
Now we have professional politicians ( snake oil salesmen ). :#
IMHO, that's why so many people are turning their backs on the big
Parties and looking elsewhere for answers. Hence the rise of ( in the UK)
UKIP, simply because they're different and can give the established
Parties a bloody nose. I really do think most people don't even care about
    Their policies. :D

Ok maybe I wasn't clear earlier, what I was getting at was democracy doesn't work within modern politics.

I believe that democracy should mean that no one escapes the law, where politicians are answerable just like the rest of us, where matters are discussed sensibly, takining into account the populations thoughts and views, where we get a choice, a voice and a right to be told what's happeneing and why.

Instead I live in a country where decisions are made by people well protected within parliment, who can lead the country to war on an arguement built on lies and deception, who's authorities can mess up, be incompetent in their jobs and make mistakes that cost lives but ultimately hardly ever the right people are brought to task, and when a politician is concerned, never will a prosecution be brought forward. Sure, some scapegoat might loose a job, but the people who really matter go on to find work elsewhere back in the bowels of parliment.

When you have a parliment that is run like this, where the nests of the rich and powerful are well lined by the hard earned cash of the population, where transparency, honesty and responsibility have been superceded by deception, betrayal and denial then you can't have a true democracy.

A democracy should work with politics, but sadly we now live in a world incapable of achieving this as instead of being driven by endeavour, achievement and a pride in ourseleves we're obsessed with self preservation, selfishness, greed and power.

I've always thought one way of humbling the politicians would be to
Have on the voting slip, a box for a joke candidate I.e. a dead parrot. ;)
Then when the votes are counted, we could see how many people would
Rather be represented by a " Dead Parrot" than some corrupt, politician.
And if the " Dead Parrot" should win the election, all politicians would have to
Resign their seats, to let some new blood in ! :D

    I have spoken ! Make it so, Number24. :))
    ( see what I did there, it's usually number1 ) ;)

+1, for Minigeff's point. At the moment we are still waiting on a report on why Britain
Went to war in Iraq. It's almost SIX years late !!. Yet according to all politicians it's
Not their fault ? Who else has the power to hold it up ? I know I don't.

Nothing to do with Tony Bliar...

And yet what will be done about it? Nothing, because we live in a 'democracy'.

Let's settle this: I believe you just ment to say that politics and democracy works badly. I guess you just worded that sentence ....... clumsily. Our system and our politicians are not perfect, but perhaps. In Norway many politicians earn less than they would in the private sector. They mostly live in normal houses, have normal cars and normal friends. It's not unusal to stand in the same que at the COOP with ministers in the government and prime ministers didn't have bodyguads until a few years ago. In other words; politicians meet ordinary people every day.
