Those of us of a certain age remember Annette Andre (fondly in my case) for her role as Marty Hopkirk's widow Jeannie in the 1960's TV series Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased). And also for her guest appearances in episodes of TV series such as The Saint, The Persuaders, and The Prisoner. Annette has fond memories of working with Roger Moore, not so with Patrick McGoohan. She says she was once told by the casting director of the Bond films, "I never want you to be a Bond girl - you're too good." These days she lives in Southern California and her career is painting portraits.
I would have thought FYEO was Moores most Fleming Portayal. And TMWTGG his most Connery like. Anyway. Here's my list of Moore films.
1. For your eyes only- Not only is it my favourite Moore Film. It's my favourite Bond Film. Everything is just perfect. Kritstatos is great, Moore looks good and his acting is top notch. Melina is my favourite Bond Girl and all the set pieces are fantastic! Everything about the film, it's balance of action and comedy, it's characters and its plot, creates a world of its own. This film is under appreciated, it needs love!
2. Octopussy- didn't use to be this high but Moores second last film holds up as a grat adventure film and is never Banal, or tired. Great performances and just really good at cheering you up.
3.TSWLM- Rigt from the get go you can feel the energy place into this wonderful film. Superb set designs by Ken Adams, Stromberg and jaws are fantastic and Moore has hit his stride.
4.Moonraker- Silliness aside. This is a well made, unrelentless action movie which continues the globe trotting bi adventure feel that TSWLM started. Moore is good. Dead is great. The return of Jaws and some of its fantasy elements invoke wincing laughter than any feeling of anger or disappointment.
5. A View To A Kill- The score and theme song are probably the best series has had, and ever will in my personal humble opinion. Walken is refreshing, Mayday disturbing but different and keeps your eyes glued to the screen (not always the way you want tho). Moore shows a Grandfatherly gentleman perspective to this 57 year old Bond. Pleased he hung up the Bow Tie after this one but he still had it. Cheers to Firemass and Jarvio for making me give this film another look.
6. Live And Let Die- Solitaire is beautiful and Moore's Portayal is refreshingly different to Connery AND Lazenby. The threads of a plot are entertains enough but the action is something to be admired. To be honest, I need to see this one again.
7. The Man With The Golden Gun- Not a Bad Bond Film, that would be an oxymoron, but something is missing here in this racing, confusing and somewhat bland film. Action is few and far between. And when it does come. It's not worth the wait. The soundtrack has some Merit, while Moores Portayal is not yet refined, it definitely demands attention. The dialogue is superb in places and Lee's electrifying revamp of Flemings forgettable thug is almost Oscar worthy.

I love Roger Moore the actor, the humanitarian, the wit, the personality, the man. I believe his greatest big-screen role was as Sean Fynn in The Wild Geese. We tend to differ philosophically with regard to James Bond My respect for him has no limit, and I wish him a long life and good health.

I enjoy all Moore Bond films. Below is how I rank them currently:
1. TSWLM: A great example of an OTT film done extremely well - A villain who lives underwater, a henchman with steel teeth, a Russian agent working with a British agent who killed the man the Russian agent loved, and a hybrid car that can be "driven" underwater. And all these appear like day-to-day business. The sequences are painted on a canvas consisting of historical parts of Egypt and beautiful Italy
2. LALD: One of the films that constantly grows on you. Its weird plot has voodoo elements, people being bumped off innovatively, and some great action sequences. The characters are interesting as well and fun to watch
3. OP: I term this film as Indiana Jones meets James Bond. The India sequences and the mystery surrounding OP gives an intriguing and unique feel to the film. The intrigue is blended with some breathtaking action and stunt sequences in the shadow of cold war highlighted through the divided Berlin
4. TMWTGG: This is again one of the different Bond films. It has the cool interaction b/w the villain and Bond on villain's beautiful island with a tense gun duel played out with odds heavily stacked against Bond. Only way out for Bond was if he innovated. In addition, there is humorous interaction among the BGs and Bond, a flying car whose concept was probably a much talked about affair in those days, and references to solving the oil crisis at that time - all played out in backdrop of exotic locations
5. FYEO: This one is probably one of the Bond films with no (major) weaknesses. It can be used as a benchmark to rank other films. The movie is well balanced (not too OTT, not too funny, and not too dark) .... The film is like vanilla ice cream which allows you to judge other films based on the flavors added to it. And vanilla is also one of the most popular flavors
6. MR: I enjoy watching this film a lot. It is a fun ride. It is ranked at 6 because it is mainly a rehashed story which is already done remarkably well in Moore's own TSWLM .... To rehash a story and make it such a fun to watch is an achievement of sorts. MR also keeps entertainment above everything else
7. AVTAK: This one is difficult to rank as it has interesting sequences (and performances) blended with sequences that drag. But it is still a Bond film and fun to watch

I think OP and Indiana Jones have similarities because of the adventure elements. It's a globetrotting flick that has constant action and the hero put into many different situations.
This sort of pace and constant changing of locations and non-stop adventure hadn't really featured in a Bond film so strongly as it does in OP.

Yes you definitely get that old fashioned 'Raiders' action/adventure feel from Octopussy, especially in scenes like the train sequence and the tiger hunt. On the story side, they made a good move in getting George MacDonald Fraser, who penned the Flashman novels, to write the screenplay. And some of the elements like the snakes and spiders are very reminiscent of the 'creature' scenes in Indy. Also, I think the impressive stuntwork in Raiders made the Bond team up their game in Octopussy. I've always thought it one of the most impressive Bonds from a stunts perspective.

OP is the film of greatest extremes. From the Tarzan yell to the Bomb in Germany.
It's one of the best.
Perhaps they felt it would be too serious of a film without the gags. The gags don't bother me, but they ruin the film for some. I see it as a realistic and serious film overall.

True. However, it almost seems like Temple of Doom (1984) has more in common with Octopussy than Raiders.
