Now the two models have re-appeared on Corgi's website, the gold version is noted as 'pre-orders sold out', so high demand might have caused their temporary removal. The estimated January 2015 delivery date has disappeared too, so maybe delayed shipping from the factory is another problem. I ordered one of each colour but there's been no sign of them turning up on the doorstep yet.

The Hot Wheels Elite DB5's were never scheduled for summer 2014. I have only seen planned release dates for January 2015 and I commented that it would be a pity to miss the 50th anniversary of GF. But I guess that we won't feel any different when buying the cars in 2015.
Hot Wheels has in the meantime announced another, cheaper 1:18 version of the GF DB5 - not an "Elite" but a "Heritage" model with just opening doors. This and the DB10 are scheduled for June 2016.
Now the two models have re-appeared on Corgi's website, the gold version is noted as 'pre-orders sold out', so high demand might have caused their temporary removal. I see the two DB5s are now showing an intended delivery date of 14/02/2015.
I checked some other models earlier announced as January releases and they have all had their due dates removed, but items for February and later still display dates.
I believe the production ratio is 5 silver DB5s to 1 gold DB5 and they will be sold to retailers only in these half-dozen batches.

I had to page back as far as page 272 of this thread to find again the info that Rainier Wolfcastle had posted regarding these two models and I see at that time (Feb 2014) that the intended release date was January 2015. I also checked the Diecast Legends e-shop and both still have the status of "pre-order". So there's a chance we will see these two before the two Corgi's.

As a big fan of Top Gear with a tendency to agree with most of James May's thoughts on cars etc, the article made me smile. When I was a kid I received the first Corgi JB DB5 one Christmas and it was amazing as JM says. Like most of my childhood mates, I hadn't seen Goldfinger at the time but we'd all seen teaser clips on TV of this sportscar with blazing machine guns, which made the new Corgi toy a must-have, just like kids wanting the latest hi tech stuff now. Up until that point, the best that toy cars had to offer were opening doors, bonnet, boot etc, perhaps with the odd figure included, so to suddenly see a toy car fitted with all the JB weaponry was staggering at the time. It then spawned all the rest with gadgets - Batmobile, Fab One, U.N.C.L.E. etc and set about raising the expectations of kids from new toy releases tenfold.
It's interesting that the scale of the original release (1:46) is mentioned - I'm still hoping that the new re-releases will also be in the original slightly smaller scale.
EDIT: Just noticed the 100mm measurement in the listing - that's the size of the later 1:43 scale model. Oh well.
Being somewhat disappointed with the packaging of the two new Corgi James Bond Aston Martin DB5's.
I thought why not have a go at producing my own concept version, utilising what I have in my collection in the way of boxes and reference material, I used the 04201 version in the pictures.
My concept version is a box with an opening, with black tray inside to take the car and secret instructions, and to include a 24pp information leaflet. -{
Some crazy prices on eBay already, one guy is selling as pay-now-get-later, was asking £100 for the gold one yesterday, but £130 today!!
He has reduced the price now to £110 - and has already sold 4 for £100, 1 for £130, and 3 for £110. And he has begun to charge £30 instead of £20 for the silver one.
What I find questionable is that this is a "Corgi Platinum Stockist"; it casts a poor light on Corgi when their premium stockists charge 550% more than MSRP.
I will wait a bit, I am sure that there will be another production run. These are no numbered limited editions, just one out of six is gold. But not limited to how many silver and gold will actually be produced. I remember the Skyfall DB5 which was also in short supply first but now is still available. The same will happen with both of the new DB5's.

Out of interest, I've emailed Corgi for information on the availability of the gold DB5 (CC04203). If they reply with anything other than "contact your lovely friendly local dealer for info!" I'll pass it on. Regarding the people selling CC04203 at £100 plus on eBay, my advice to anyone would be to think about buying an original issue (no. 261) instead. £100 should be enough for an unboxed 'near mint' (only very slightly marked) example which might be a much safer investment than a re-issue sold at 550% over MSRP as RW calculated.
I agree with RW, there will be another production run. I am in the market for only the silver one anyway and I've pre-ordered with my local supplier and I'm confident I'll get one at RRP.
While Corgi is tagging the gold one (code is CC04203G, & without the G suffix for the silver one) as "Limited Edition", as RW says it definitely isn't limited in the usual sense of the word, with enclosed numbered cards stating a production total & edition number. So just the "hard to find" sort of limited edition 8-)
Your advice is a good idea, MCF - one may as well go for the original as this anniversary edition might be painted gold but it is two castings (and scales) away from that original 1965 edition.
I spoke with Corgi yesterday and have spent some time researching this.
Everything that has been reported I believe to be correct - the gold ones are in a trade pack with 5 silver ones, so 1 in 6. All retailers have had their order numbers confirmed and they are shipping imminently.
There are NO plans for a further production and the only availability will be through returns; very unlikely when you note the prices that these are already commanding. I do agree with Rainier however that when they see the £'s Corgi will order another production run. This could all be a publicity stunt to raise awareness and personally I will be waiting to see what transpires rather than lining the pockets of the unscrupulous Corgi stockists who spend the rest of the year chasing our business.
All of this information is only what I believe to be true and I advise that you do your own research.

The boxes have a neat trick built into them - when the display inner part containing the model is pulled out, the collector's card automatically slides out by itself at the other end:
There's a retro style instruction sheet included, both licence plates turn and the car is definitely the 1.43 casting. Can recommend to all as they say! -{

There aren't any edition numbers on the collector's cards included with my two models, so it doesn't appear they are a limited run. Being a typical die-cast collector, my mid 90's Corgi 1.43 (Oddjob issue) DB5 is at the bottom of a box full of 1.36 scale Bond vehicles, so you will have to give me time to go searching! If no-one else posts a comparison in the meantime I'll try and post some photos online in a few days.
The announcement you posted is identical to the reply I've just received to my email to Corgi on the same subject. I guess for anybody wanting either colour model, it's a case of pre-ordering directly from Corgi (BTW Corgi pre-orders totaling over £30 don't necessarily qualify for free UK postage) or talking to a dealer who can guarantee getting hold of one at a sensible price (!)

Probably best to look out for someone in the UK selling up a largish set as a job lot and then the postage might be more worth it.

The only thing I would add to FACT's good advice is to ask the seller to check every model in his/her collection for cracks in the perspex cases before you buy. The JBCC series is notorious for that problem even when the cars are sold in sealed blister packs, and the cases are expensive to replace if damaged, so more than one or two offenders could be a problem.
I don't think many people sell large collections, they tend to get more money selling the cars individually, so you could potentially get yourself a bargain if you can find an extensive well-kept set. Here's an example of what to look for - in this instance a complete set, sealed with mags - (unfortunately it's a UK only deal, but other sellers will ship worldwide)

While I'm not wanting to purchase them as an investment, neither do I want to pay more than I would be able to get out of them at a later date if I was forced to part with them. So far on Ebay I've only seen individual models with very few overseas sellers willing to combine shipping costs.
Does anyone know of any other websites, venues, or forums where these can still be purchased, either new or secondhand?

In the UK, the entire set would have cost about £1072 direct from source (134 X £8 each) so anything less than that for a mint set including shipping would be a good deal IMHO. You would definitely be wise not to view them as an investment, it's unlikely most people would make a fortune out of them - much better to think of them as something pleasing to own whether you're a Bond fan or a car fan, or both! B-)
I have collected my Trade Pack of 5 x Silver and 1 x Gold James Bond Aston Martin DB5's (CC04203 and CC04203G) and mentioned the prices that were being achieved on eBay. My local retailer said that he had tried to order some more and the order book had been closed, so unless they already had it on order they will not be getting anymore. The dealers that are taking Pre-Orders on eBay may come unstuck. They said that there will be another production but the packaging will change.

Have just found this photo of Mattel's 2014 Nuremberg toy fair stand. They had a real DB5 there. I hope the designers took a good look at this car between the prototype models and the start of production. (For starters, there is only a thin chrome weatherstrip but no window frame on the rear side windows ...)
