good with a gun

We've had various topics about best shapes and best in a fight but I've not seen anything recently about which Bond was best with a gun.

Maybe not surprisingly the bonds who were best with their fists didn't always seem comfortable with hardware

I'll leave the debate open but surely one of the iconic shots (ho ho) in the series was Bond framed in the archway to shoot loque

I always loved how Connery fired from the hip, non of this two handed grip etc. :))

I agree. There's something very cool about how Connery goes about the gypsy camp battle in From Russia With Love, and his 'from the hip' firing stance reinforces this cool, almost nonchalant style.

Most professional ,Craig and Brosnan, worst Moore, Connery was normal 60s movie style when he should have been using the Fairbairn Sykes style developed for use for the SOE/ Commandos during WW2.

I'm surprised you rate Brozza Snipes, for me he is joint bottom with Rog. He limp wrists when firing and can't grip the P99 correctly, mostly holding it too far down the butt and not letting it rest in the web of his hand. When he's emptying the mag randomly without aiming during the caviar factory shootout is the worst, he's squeezing the trigger so fast that the thing isn't even firing. Check it out, it's quite awful. The P99 amazingly changes to a SMG for a quick second too, before changing back :))

Connery (point) shoots the way messieurs Applegate and Fairbairn taught it. Lazenby shoots in the standardized '70s tv and movie style. Moore..... the only time he even tries, is when he shoots Locke. Dalton well his style is in par with the way Lazenby shoots, in the sense that it's standardized tv/movie shooting, only from the era of Miami Vice. Asp9mm took care of Brozzer. So we are left with DC; it's ok not quite in the Michael Mann production level ok, but ok compared to the other Bonds. IMHO DC handles long guns better than he handles pistols, too much movie posturing with the short guns.

Here is a clip that illustrates what I mean with Michael Mann level: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsKj6RGQ2VM

Michael Mann is the only director I know that really goes out of his way to train the actors. Cruise in Collateral with the Mozambique drill is sublime in that alley. Heat, even Miami Vice is good (film).

Craig started off well in Casino Royale, took a dip in Quantum and lifted up a level in Skyfall.

I remember hearing in the LTK audio commentary, John Glen tried to teach Carey Lowell to fire a gun without flinching. He couldn't do it.

I'd say Craig looks the most realistic, Connery the coolest.

What's with all the technique talk? Ya just sink the bullet into your target. Right? ?:) The Mummy Returns had all the info you need (squeeze don't pull; lead the target...).
Someday I'll go to a gun range & startle everyone at how good I am never having done it before. :o :))
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.
