I just saw Kingsman. It was fun to watch but the second half of the movie was rather over the top. It is a bit of a mix of Austin Powers and M.I.
Liked the clothing style of CF and the way he plays that role.
In short a nice movie but on a scale 1 to 10 I would-be rate it a 7.

The one to watch will be the adaptation of The Man from UNCLE, which looks to have less to do with the TV series and more to do with aping the look of the Connery Bond films and the humor of the Moore bond films. I'm glad that Henry Cavill is not playing Bond, but he's playing Napoleon Solo as though he is.

I went to see Kingsman yesterday and thought it was a very entertaining movie. It isn´t going to win the Oscar for best picture but I had a great time watching it with my younger brother.
However, can someone explain why the plan of the villain was such a bad idea? :v
I forgot about CR! Yes I agree it was a traditional Bond film. However QoS & SF have something important missing - I can't put my finger on it but just something. It's a personal thing but they just did absolutely nothing for me &, without the obvious references, I felt I could have been watching any number of other action films.
As already stated it's probably has a lot to do with my own preference for 'classic' films as much as anything else.
"Entertainment" is the missing thing you can't put your finger on. The villains have been weak or mediocre and the writers are spending too much of the films trying to get inside Bond. There are two terms that can be applied to films - esoteric and exoteric - interior-focussed vs exterior-focussed. Action films like Bond are predominantly exoteric - if I want a deep and meaningful character study I'll watch a Merchant Ivory or Woody Allen film. By moving Bond into the esoteric space they are subverting everything that makes Bond entertaining. Bond only needs a minimum of esoteric content, eg the impulse to get justice or revenge, that's enough.
And yet millions were entertained by the recent spate of Bond films, so there's that..................
I wasn't one of them. And box office success means the marketing was successful not the film. I think my views on QoS and SF will gain ground as time goes by.

I just had an unplanned viewing of Kingsman yesterday afternoon at the mall and enjoyed it! Later in the evening, I also watched Maze Runner at home and just marvelled how the film industry is really capitalizing on the Young Adult action movie genre. Pretty much all of Kingsman was entertaining, but I have to say that what I enjoyed the most are the Colin Firth scenes as the kick-ass version of John Steed and I liked even the no-holds-barred fight scenes and the opening "mission." Because the trailer for Man from U.N.C.L.E. was recently released, I watched some reviews on YouTube and there was this one hipster (sorry if I use the wrong term, I'm old) reviewer who dissed U.N.C.L.E. and went to to say if you wanted to watch a better version, go see Kingsman and seeing how this girl looked, I can see how the riff-raff elements of Kingsman might have appealed to her more; then again, I have yet to watch U.N.C.L.E.

Cinemas are so expensive these days. I paid $14.75 to see Kingsman on Saturday. I didn't even like it.
There was a brief discussion of the new Bond films being overly serious and the old ones were more fun. That being said, the film failed to recapture any of the style or flair of the 60's or 70's Bonds. Instead it was overly violent to the point of being disgusting. There were hints of having "manners" and being "gentlemen", but this idea was not really explored either. Instead the Kingsmen were encouraged to kill their pet dog at point-blank range. The ending joke about "butts-x" felt like it belonged in a raunchy comedy and the director's dedicating the film to his deceased mother seemed like especially poor taste after such a depraved film.
Speaking of moms, we are expected to believe that Eggsy's mum would slide that far downhill after her "Lancelot" husband was killed? I find that hard to believe.
The amputee hench-woman was a ripoff of Grindhouse- Planet Terror gal with the machine gun leg.
The fight scenes with Colin Firth are such a joke that I long for the days when real action heroes dominated the screen. Like when Van Damme pushed his trench-coat aside to reveal his leg in Hard Target. Bad guys got kicked in the face on that day.
The only old-school Bond vibe I got from the film was the villains "Noah's Arc" plot was lifted from Moonraker. I feel like I just saw this homage in Machete Kills. It was supposed to be shocking when Samuel L shoots the agent at point blank range, but Austin Powers had already covered this topic in depth.
For all it's supposed "wisdom" Kingsman is also unintentionally sexist by focusing the story on the boy instead of the girl who was actually the better agent and became the next Lancelot. Live, Die, Repeat would be another example of this hidden bias.
I'm still not even sure what Kingsman was trying to say about different classes of British society. Was Eggsy supposed to be a more modern Daniel Craig type of Bond?
Overall, Kingsman reminded me of In Like Flint in the sense that it wants to emulate the Bond series while also providing witty satire, but unfortunately came up short on both. What we are left with is a semi-goofy, violent action movie which is not at all funny as it tries to be.

Hmm maybe you got the wrong impression of what the film like was before you bought your ticket - its an over the top adult Black Comedy with tributes and nods to the Spy Genre but certainly not supposed to be a Bond film.
The whole Eggsy thing is based on Chav Brit Society which I guess can be a bit strange for non Europeans but its certainly a funny and near accurate portrayal that us Brits relate too!! (People do dress, talk and act like that )
I completely missed it in Cinemas, but I'll just wait for the DVD. I hope there is a second Film one Day -{
I'm with you, AOS. I'd love to see a sequel or even a series. I know it cost a bucket of money to make and had the misfortune of opening the same time as "50 Shades of Sh*t" (different audience, I know, but there are still only so many cinema pennies to go around). I think it will do very well on vid and therefore hopefully the studio will make another one. I'm sure you'd love it AOS.
It's still on in places - I saw it on Sunday in Basildon (also known as Bas Vegas ) ) - I really enjoyed the film, as TP says, it's not Bond but still really good fun.

This may be digging too deep but maybe the lack of the round table was a foreshadowing of Caine's character?
That's what I was thinking... But again, sometimes we find meaning in things that were never written to have deeper meaning, that was my biggest takeaway from English lit
