SWJ - thanks for the book info, there's some fascinating combinations there. I have to admit I never did quite buy into the 'Bond in a Bentley Blower' idea though. The machine is a beast but always seemed too big and unwieldy for European country roads, especially back in the 60's, much more suited to the racetrack IMHO. I reckon the Merc and Alfa would have left it trailing on the first tight bend!
I like the idea of the Maserati up against the Lancia, that sounds it would have been very cinematic if EON had gone with the idea.
However, the one that nearly made me choke on my beer was the 'Death is Forever' combo - Bond in a Toyota Previa people carrier? Up against a Ferrari - seriously?? Did he have the wife and kids with him? Was the Ferrari in reverse gear?

I haven't seen the red one yet but hope that the wheels will be better than the terrible Minichamps version with its smaller (!) rear wheels. (Autoart made a better S1 Esprit but unfortunately not in white.) I can live with the different number plates. It seems that Corgi only got a licence for "toy cars" but not "model cars" as otherwise we would see this Esprit as a Bond car for sure.

As for the James Bond connection. In actual fact, the Bond Esprit was supposed to be red so you could say they got it wrong in the movie ;-)

I wasn't aware that it should have been red. I was under the impression that the only S1 available for filming was the Lotus MDs own car - which was white.
You are spot on re. Chrstopher Woods novelisation. Post 6,575 (link below) has a reasonable stab at what it may have looked like.

I think DD's request was for scans of James Bond comic strip pages where some of these cars make an appearance. Apologies if I've got that wrong DD, but it would be a great idea anyway, so would quoting any passages in 'unfilmed' James Bond books where less well known cars are featured. The mysterious Bond SAAB comes to mind!
When I was a kid, I used to read the James Bond comic strip in my gran's daily paper (The Express??) but I don't have copies of the collected strips, or any of the unfilmed novels. Perhaps other people here can post some examples of illustrations and text or links to them.

Hi Gordon, welcome to the thread and thanks for posting. It must be terrific to own that very special Lotus AND to have an accurate mass produced model made of it. When Corgi took over 'Vanguards' the amalgamation with Corgi's own toy-like miniature road cars under the same Corgi banner led to some confusion amongst consumers as to whether the company were now producing toys or models. Corgi still make toy-like cars but anything that is made as part of the 'Corgi Vanguards' range is by definition a model, not a toy, so you are right to point that out. It's good to see that they also gave you certificate number 0001 to go with it!
I'd be interested to know whether Corgi laser-scanned the real car and how that was done i.e. was it done on site or was the car taken off somewhere to have it done?
Can you post some recent photos of the real car?
Regarding the colour and the fact that the original car was described in the book as red, I wonder if the filming of the underwater sequences was a factor. A white Lotus would have stood out far more distinctly underwater than a red one (as SWJ's red model Lotus proves) and I would imagine that the movie's production team would have wanted both the car and its gadgets to be seen very clearly for maximum audience impact.
I also wonder whether the FYEO Esprit with skis appearing in copper bronze might have been a nod towards the TSWLM Lotus's true colour, by at least not being another white car.
Just going back to the Corgi DB5 saga, as predicted by RW back on 23 January, another production run of these models has been announced, but with an altered theme (and probably packaging to go with it) - due to arrive in June: http://www.corgi.co.uk/news/update-james-bond-aston-martin-db5-2/

I really do think Corgi underestimate the collector interest in well made and well presented 1.43 scale Bond models. I'm sure if the figures supplied with earlier re-issues like the Toyota 2000 had been in scale with the cars and if the packaging had been more interesting like the new DB5 box, they would have sold many more of them.

Just wondered is it correct that even on the Gold coloured cars the bullet proof shield is silver in colour??

That was a lucky find - it must have been a very charitable dealer to put a gold version out with the silver ones rather than auction it through Christies My gold example has got a silver (non painted) metal bullet proof shield and I've not heard of any variation on the shield colour so far.

Passed through the Toy section of our local department store and they had some Corgi Goldfinger 50th Anniversary DB5's on display, had a look through and found 2 gold versions. -{

That was a nice find, A_A! And did you take both or were you just looking how many you could find? If you want to get rid of one for £19.99, I'd be interested.
Prices of the Corgis are already falling - the silver one can be bought off ebay for £19 to 25 buy-it-now. The gold one is still going for much more, around £65 to 90, but far from up to £150 they sold for just a few weeks ago.
I wonder if I will be able to obtain a gold one in the next months closer to MSRP. I bought the silver one for £19.00 with low postage from UK as I couldn't find one here, and my usual source for Corgi didn't know if they would get them.
Still no news about the GF DB5 from Hot Wheels Elite or a DB10 in 1:43. I don't want to post any Spectre spoilers here but I think it's no secret anymore that the Jaguar C-X75 concept car from 2010 will make an appearance alongside the DB10 (and not just standing next to it in the parking lot).
I have to say that I like the C-X75 more than the DB10. I am quite sure we will see an orange model from Spark in the future. There were already two 1:43 versions of the C-X75 Paris Salon car - one from Spark and another from Century Dragon. I don't know the latter company but the model seems a bit better than the Spark - although the Century Dragon also cost twice as much. Both are already sold out.

I must say I do like the Jaguar too. It looks much nicer in the silver than the somewhat brassy gold. The shape reminds me a little of Holly Shiftwell from Pixar's Cars 2! Holly was based on a model of Jaguar. It's an impressive looking car.
Unfortunately, new shots from different angles only lower my opinion of the Doubtful Blocky 10, which was not that high to begin with. Here it has a massive nose, and no arse! Ick.
Having seen a few pics of the new motor racing car the AM Vulcan, it looks nicer. Prob just as well it's a performance racing car though.

Hi there - shran007 again. I did indeed make 11 Code 3's that have graced this thread thus far. I have identified the list below in case it helps me get a passing grade in the highly competitive 'Entrance Exam' into our illustrious "Code 3 Academy". ) ) ) That is, I did indeed make 11 'Code 3s' instead of the 8 credited above.
The first 10 can be found are on Page 257, Post #6416 on May 30th, 2013 and the 11th is on Page 260, Post #6494 on June 30th, 2013

These Code 3 cars are truly amazing! I used to "customize" 1/64 scale Hot Wheels and Matchbox but have not attempted 1/43 scale (yet). Just wondering where the people figures come from - are these cast/made specifically for these dioramas or can they be purchased somewhere?

I like the idea of the Maserati up against the Lancia, that sounds it would have been very cinematic if EON had gone with the idea.
However, the one that nearly made me choke on my beer was the 'Death is Forever' combo - Bond in a Toyota Previa people carrier? Up against a Ferrari - seriously?? Did he have the wife and kids with him? Was the Ferrari in reverse gear?
Hi folks, I just came across this by chance and thought I would say hello.
I have been the owner of the First Production Esprit for the past 31 years.
The Corgi model came about because Lotus, working in conjunction with Corgi, wanted to produce a range of historical land mark vehicles from the Lotus line and they approached me for authorisation to use my car.
My car actually differs slightly from other cars with regards to it logos and markings and a lot of time went into making it as authentic a scale model as possible.... it is certainly not a "toy car"!
As for the James Bond connection. In actual fact, the Bond Esprit was supposed to be red so you could say they got it wrong in the movie ;-)

I wasn't aware that it should have been red. I was under the impression that the only S1 available for filming was the Lotus MDs own car - which was white.

Hi Gordon, welcome to the thread and thanks for posting. It must be terrific to own that very special Lotus AND to have an accurate mass produced model made of it. When Corgi took over 'Vanguards' the amalgamation with Corgi's own toy-like miniature road cars under the same Corgi banner led to some confusion amongst consumers as to whether the company were now producing toys or models. Corgi still make toy-like cars but anything that is made as part of the 'Corgi Vanguards' range is by definition a model, not a toy, so you are right to point that out. It's good to see that they also gave you certificate number 0001 to go with it!
I'd be interested to know whether Corgi laser-scanned the real car and how that was done i.e. was it done on site or was the car taken off somewhere to have it done?
Can you post some recent photos of the real car?
Regarding the colour and the fact that the original car was described in the book as red, I wonder if the filming of the underwater sequences was a factor. A white Lotus would have stood out far more distinctly underwater than a red one (as SWJ's red model Lotus proves) and I would imagine that the movie's production team would have wanted both the car and its gadgets to be seen very clearly for maximum audience impact.
I also wonder whether the FYEO Esprit with skis appearing in copper bronze might have been a nod towards the TSWLM Lotus's true colour, by at least not being another white car.

I really do think Corgi underestimate the collector interest in well made and well presented 1.43 scale Bond models. I'm sure if the figures supplied with earlier re-issues like the Toyota 2000 had been in scale with the cars and if the packaging had been more interesting like the new DB5 box, they would have sold many more of them.

Just goes to show there are still some about.
Prices of the Corgis are already falling - the silver one can be bought off ebay for £19 to 25 buy-it-now. The gold one is still going for much more, around £65 to 90, but far from up to £150 they sold for just a few weeks ago.
I wonder if I will be able to obtain a gold one in the next months closer to MSRP. I bought the silver one for £19.00 with low postage from UK as I couldn't find one here, and my usual source for Corgi didn't know if they would get them.
Still no news about the GF DB5 from Hot Wheels Elite or a DB10 in 1:43. I don't want to post any Spectre spoilers here but I think it's no secret anymore that the Jaguar C-X75 concept car from 2010 will make an appearance alongside the DB10 (and not just standing next to it in the parking lot).
I have to say that I like the C-X75 more than the DB10. I am quite sure we will see an orange model from Spark in the future. There were already two 1:43 versions of the C-X75 Paris Salon car - one from Spark and another from Century Dragon. I don't know the latter company but the model seems a bit better than the Spark - although the Century Dragon also cost twice as much. Both are already sold out.

Unfortunately, new shots from different angles only lower my opinion of the Doubtful Blocky 10, which was not that high to begin with. Here it has a massive nose, and no arse! Ick.
Having seen a few pics of the new motor racing car the AM Vulcan, it looks nicer. Prob just as well it's a performance racing car though.

Hi there --- this is shran007 after a long absence from a staff infection during a serious hip replacement last year (it nearly put me out of commission). I think I have actually built 10 or 11 'Code 3' models so I will locate them on a previous page on this thread and hopefully when the "Official List" gets compiled and published I will be able to contribute more 'art work' to our collective efforts.
