AVTAK. Yes I know it's poor(relatively speaking) but I still love it.

AVTAK on ITV Sunday afternoon. much maligned for obvious reasons discussed to the hilt on these forums. As it was the first Bond film I saw at the cinema with my best mate both aged 8. I still love it for sentimental reasons.I watch it whenever it's on and still thoroughly enjoy it. I guess I have a blind spot for all the problems with this film. Thats sentiment for ya.

Ps even aged 8 me and my mate both found it funny Roger Moores overdubbed groaning and grunting as the stuntman dived around in the snow

    There are some classic Bond moments and even though Roger is aged and some sequences are a bit tough going, overall, it's still an enjoyable watch -{

    Just wish we had seen a bit more of Jenny Flex.. :x

    I see it as one of the worst Bond films, and even so I still found it entertaining. But that's probably because it sticks so rigidly to a formula.

    In hindsight, it would've been better if they had just made it a story about Bond coming to grips with his age, and although he could no longer do the things he used to, he can still triumph with his wits. Then again, that's moreso a Daniel Craig story in today's self-aware society. Back then they just wanted to sell tickets.

    A bit more of Jenny Flex, Pola Ivanova, and especially Sir Godfrey Tibbett. Less Beach Boys, taxi driver, "Keystone Cops", less obvious stunt doubles. And a script more tailored to Bond's age. Still, I thoroughly enjoy large parts of A View To A Kill just the way it is.

    I adore AVTAK, it's a fantastic film.

    I know it gets a lot of hate but I love it. The story is tight, a great villain, fantastic locations.

    I only wish Dalton had got it as his first, with a bit of re-writing and him in the title role I reckon it would be my favourite ever.

    But it's still great.

    It was one of the first ones I "Videoed off the telly" so it got repeat viewings from when I was about 12 onwards. I think it was also the first one I saw at the pictures.

    I rewatched it on DVD last friday and loved it all over again, I was surprised at the score to be honest, it reminded me very much of OHMSS (the instrumental in the snow during the PTS in particular).

    I hadn't thought about Dalton doing it. I think you're right.

    AVTAK. The first Bond movie I rented in VHS and saw in its entirety from start to finish. Over 20 years later I'm writing in this forum talking about Bond. I guess it wouldn't be the case had AVTAK been a really bad film. I'm fond of it, and I think it's good. In the 80s EON didn't do a bad film, they were a well oiled machine and always delivered.

    I saw it at the cinema twice [once at Southend odeon, second time in tenby, wales) and it was very good. I dont remember problems with it I just remember Duran Duran, Grace Jones and Roger Moore.

    The mine being wrecked by all that water is still a good scene and so is the dirigible at the end. It moving towards the Golden Gate with the John Barry orchestra starting up is my favourite bits of a Bond film.

    I agree, all the music for AVTAK is great.

    Great to see the A VIEW TO A KILL love here. It is equally great to see that maybe - just maybe - we are moving on from a sheep-skewed consensus when it comes to Bond films. Too many older fans pour age old scorn on some of the Bond films without realising that we all have our favourites, we all have our bests and we all have our entry points and that moment when we became a fan.

    As one who is not particularly fond of AVTAK, I must express my admiration for the way you described your affection for it in your outstanding book. You almost (but not quite) made me a believer. And let me say that even though AVTAK is probably my least favorite Bond film, I still watch it occasionally and enjoy it because after all, it's Bond!

    I love your book and I highly recommend it to all Bond fans! -{
