I do admire what Gardner did and love some of the atmosphere he could set up.
Even in WLOD, having Bond back in uniform and back in training, I think is great
    Fun. :)
What sort of Bourbon, some Jack ? :))

    :)) just in case anyone thinks I had a Problem, I didn't :))
Usual teen drinking , slowed down a bit, then just lost interest.
In my family, I'm the odd one out. You wouldn't believe the amount
They can get down their necks. :))

Well Bond liked a drink too -{ , as in the old BBC documentary showing how the
Reporter ( who ate and drank the meal Bond had before playing le Chiffre) said it
Was almost all he could do to stay standing and awake, let alone go in to play a
    High stakes car game. :))
Gardner did cut down on Bond's drinking in his books, modern times ! :) and in
Carte Blanche Bond quits smoking. Which I can understand these days, every other
Paragraph, 007 would have to pop outside for a smoke. :)) or invest in an E cigarette.

It's amazing how things have changed since the 50's.

'Bond asked Mr Big if he could step outside and a light a Fag'

    Win, lose or Die :
It's odd as I had very little memory of this book. :)) it started off well, in my opinion.
Having Bond go back in to the Navy was a cute idea but then to have him stuck on
a boat for the rest of the novel, acting as a naval Miss Marple. ;) was a disappointment.
The villains are a bit " so, so" nothing great the end of the story takes place in a fantastic
Location, a " Ghost town" for army training, but sadly ( not to give too much away) Bond
Needs " help" in dealing with the villain.
I can see why WLOD was voted out of the elimination game so soon.
Next up is Brokenclaw. I'm not reading the film tie in books as these are good, but are an
Attempt to shoehorn in Gardner's Bond into Eon's movie. :D

I think Gardner made Bond too vulnerable in his later Books.

    Brokenclaw :
From my memory I thought this was quite a good book, but now I feel it has some good points and
some bad ones. ;) The villain is an obvious attempt to create one of the larger than life villains, that
Fleming did so well. Gardner partially succeeds, although his story gets bogged down with plot. Not story
but plot :# Once again we have a love interest, but nothing to be concerned about, Chi Chi is a fairly
    formulaic heroine.
The villain's hidden house is a fantastic idea, a real puzzle box. Although I thought it funny given his
next villainous plan to bring about a nother stock market crash, was successfully done a few years ago
by the bankers themselves. No need for eastern governments, or secret criminal groups to get involved. :))
A couple of mistakes in it, that I noticed. Bond having afternoon tea ? ( we all know he hates the stuff)
and in the Wolf pen, Gardner writes of an excited wolf "Barking" ? as far as I know only Dogs bark, wolves
might growl or snarl but not bark. :D
So in many ways another bit of a disapointment, I think I remembered it too favourably. :) Now for
The Man from Barbarossa, which apparently was J Gardners favourite of his Bond Books.
As always any views and opinions on this or other Bond books are most welcome. {[]

Brokenclaw was a rather forgettable Novel for me :#

    But the O Kee Pa Ritural saves the Book from being completely bad -{

Yes, that was graphic, I winced reading about pulling the pegs out of
his legs. :o a variation on the torture scene, perhaps ?

Some people say that the sound torture of Bond by Dr Anton Murik and Mary Jane Mashkin in Licence Renewed was rather weak though.

    Absolutely bizarre :s

The only two I can remember is ( Me as Bond, obviously ) :))
A sword fight in a Spanish type villa. And Me on the jet ski from TSWLM
Going through an area full of half sunken Greek columns, and beautiful
blue water. I can even remember the corny line I said on being asked if
The jet ski could make it ........

We're all watching too many Bond films and reading too many Bond Books. :))
Since I started my epic Bond book reading marathon, I've read nothing else. :D
