GOLDENEYE - following in Flemings footsteps.

I have just returned from Jamaica. While there I managed to wangle passage on a small boat piloted by my very own Quarrel. To shorten the story the boat trip served one purpose, to take me past 'Goldeneye'. I would have missed the place had it not been pointed out to me as it sits squat among the greenery on a shallow bank above a small private beach. We were between 2 & 300 yards out (I don't do metres) &, because I could see breakers between us & the shore, we were beyond what I took to be a shallow reef. I gave the place a thorough examination through the field glasses kindly loaned to me by 'Quarrel'. I could clearly see the beach & what appeared to be a small terrace to the left hand side as well as the outcrop of rock jutting from the water which I have seen in photographs of Fleming. There were a few people milling about whom I took to be residents. Although I have been in the proximity of Goldeneye before this is the first time I have actually seen it & it gave me a real thrill to set eyes on it, the birthplace to all the Bond novels that holds so many fantastic accounts from that & Ian Flemings life.

Over the years I have also visited several other buildings which Ian Fleming worked from or lived in. His London Home, The Admiralty & Eaton school. I was wondering if other members have visited any places which were key points in Flemings life & have a story to tell? I'm confident someone will trump me & will have actually visited GE or perhaps even stayed & I would be fascinated to hear if so.

Awesome, Stag. Goldeneye is very high on my list too. I've been near, but never that close. As for following in Fleming's footsteps, I once made my own walking tour of London visiting most of the places he lived and worked in and finishing with a martini at Dukes Hotel.
