James Bond Podcast

A podcast that I listen to is doing three James Bond specials. I thought I'd share this with everyone as it is a good show. The podcast is called 'Digital Gonzo' and can be found here - http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/digital-gonzo/id388751599

As a podcaster myself, I've been toying with the idea of doing a dedicted James Bond show myself but in more detail than the Digital Gonzo shows.

Thanks for the link. I really enjoyed the "For Your Ears Only" and "Being James Bond" podcasts and have been listening to other ones as well. Will give this one a try, thanks again.

I've listened to quite a few podcasts about Bond (For your ears only, Better in the dark, Hollywood saloon, Now Playing, Books and nacho's etc etc) and always like to hear what other people think about the movies. Has any of you ever reviewed a Bondfilm on a podcast?

Now Playing is currently in the midst of a James Bond retrospective. :007)

Not yet, but I have some friends who do a movie podcast, and I'm probably going to make a guest appearance on their podcast when they review SkyFall.

I definitely recommend the James Bonding podcast over at Nerdist. The DN episode with Paul F. Tompkins as the guest is pretty good/funny.

Well, the "funny" English accent get old after about 7 minutes, however, they keep doing it in every other episode as well.

James Bonding is both a lot of fun and somewhat infuriating at times. The guys are funny and clear Bond fans, which is an obvious plus. So far, they've done the first four and the most recent three. They spend quite a bit of time panning the films and pointing out absurdities. This is generally fine, but it's sometimes hard to listen to some of the jabs when you can't retort!

Their guests are often not Bond fans at all and they completely bungled the GF episode in my opinion. The episode featured two female guests that had very little experience with Bond and could not move past the mysogyny in the film. While their comments and feelings were justified, it got a bit tiring listening to them hate on a classic bond for a solid hour. I guess it's a matter of expectation, and I was expecting to hear something else.

So what are your favorite Bond podcasts? I will forget to name a few for sure, but off the top of my head:

1. For Your Ears Only. It might be a bit immature once in a while, but I respect anyone who takes the time to make podcasts take actually take longer than the movies they are about. Also, returning after 30 months to do the Skyfall episode shows some great love for Bond.

2. Now Playing Retrospective. Quite short podcast by a fan, a general movielover and a newbie about all the Bond movies. Not bad at all and quite insightfull. Sometimes I forget what it was like to watch the Bond films for the first time, this podcast gives us that insight.

Agreed. Between that, their singing/humming of the James Bond theme, and them inexplicably not knowing things that any Bond fan should know (What S.P.E.C.T.R.E. stands for, what novel comes after FRWL, etc) the podcasts are pretty much unlistenable for me.

I like listening to them during work. I like their take on making their podcasts a bit different from most other. However, the laugh of one of the hosts is one of the most annoying things I have ever heard in my life.

James Bond is probably my favorite Bond podcast it has a nice mix of humor and info. I will agree with the consensus that the GF episode was very poor to their choice of guests and how its a complete 180 to the Casino Royale episode. I have been working my way through For Your Ears Only and while good I find at times it can be annoying mainly the co-host who does rather annoying renditions of the theme songs other than that its a good podcast. BondCast is rather good as well the only downside is the episodes are released monthly so it takes 2 months to get a complete review for a movie. The weakest I have heard is the NowPlaying Retrospective maybe it was because only one of them was familiar with the series and the other 2 weren't but I could not get into that one.

I really enjoyed the Now Playing retrospective because it gave a spectrum of different responses to the series - first, a dedicated fan. second, a casual fan, and third, someone who watched a bunch of Bond films some years ago but hasn't really watched any since. Some of their ratings surprised me though, such as The Spy Who Loved Me and Thunderball being rated really low. I liked that some of the regularly overlooked films such as Octopussy got some love though.

A lot of people really hate on Thunderball and I think its mainly due to the underwater scenes. I mean the James Bonding guys hated it so its not just casual fans who aren't fond of it. Personally I love Thuderball its the peak of Connery as Bond and its the climax of the first few movies getting bigger and bigger I never really considered YOLT in this cycle.

Another good podcast is the one done by the webmasters of allouttabubblegum.com do, though they only do them every once in while, and since their website is devoted to all action movies they do talk about more than just James Bond.

However one of them is a die hard Bond fan, so it always worth listening to what he has to say that is related to the Bond films in my humble opinion.
