Why has there never been a weather-controlling plot in a Bond Film?

I don't disagree, but I never suggested bond had gone up against the Russian government, Bond was under the impression grant worked for smersh in frwl, and in literary bond mi6 are regularly Trying to get one over on the "Russians"
As for smersh not being an enemy of Bond, I'm afraid I will have to disagree with you Matt ( not the first and I'm sure not the last time) as smersh was part of the kgb and bond worked for the brutish secret service, at the time of the gulf war they were very much on opposing sides.

But this is about Bond films, and Smersh was never an enemy in the films. The KGB were only an enemy of Bond in FYEO, and even then they were more of a frienemy. The rest of the time they were not Bond's enemies. The films did not portray the Russians as the enemy. It wasn't always a positive portrayal of the Russians either, but the treated Americans roughly the same way.

I've been referring to bond also in the literal term. The cold war was not first mentioned by me, I was simply making the point that there is modern day source material now as there was during the cold war. And that bond has done away with a fair few Russians, I recall bond stealing a Russian tank in goldeneye and during his escape harming a few Russian soldiers, and helping the mujahideen dispatch the odd Russian in tld and of course stealing a Russian lektor machine was purely an act of friendly banter.

I doubt that EON would make a particular nation the bad guys as that would reduce potential box office. Russia and China are both large markets, China especially.

They could make North Korea the bad guys but that was already done in DAD. And you don't want to make Kim Jong Un mad or he'll hack your computers!

There were many crazy Russians in the Bond films, like Klebb, Orlov, Zorin and Orumov, but you could say the same for other nationalities. There were a lot of crazy British people in Bond as well.

    Zorin was East-German (albeit ex-KGB)

I mentioned him because he was KGB, and they gave him an affiliation with the Russians in the film.

I really must be missing something here??? Didn't 007 also dispatch a fair few Russians in the PTS in avtak also? I'm pretty sure even though it's not discussed but the helicopter has a red star on it and the soldiers are dressed in Soviet style uniforms.

I agree but I regard that as basic soldiering Bond v Hundreds of Russian
    Soldiers is about equal. ;)
Although if you want to control the weather, storms, floods and hurricanes etc.
According to a few bishops, just ask a gay couple to get married, and all hell
will break lose weather wise ! :))

Ah yes the religious angle! According to those same Bishops I suppose damned to damnation unless we repent our sins and godless lives! God must be really angry with the Cumbrians for something, given the weather related punishment he's dished out there.
So it's not just me who is of the opinion that bond has bashed up a few Russians then?

Indeed gone are the double agents and defectors.

That's a point would a defector these days be reclassified as an illegal immigrant?
