While there are some people who really don't like Thunderball and don't understand the hype, is it underrated though?
I think so, because of the disregard of the extensive underwater production...at least in the modern era. I've always been more engaged by it than many of my peers...and I'm one of the 'Old Guard' ;%

TB without a doubt; classic 007. It's got Sean Connery (without the tiredness he displays in YOLT; prowling like a panther with total confidence through each scene- note how many scenes simply feature him walking across a room; one-liners flowing effortlessly from his lips without the quotation marks later Bonds sometimes appear to supply), perhaps the sexiest lineup of females in any Bond movie (Claudine Auger in THAT swimsuit; Luciana Paluzzi in, well, ANYTHING but particularly when 007 finds her in his bathroom; Martine Beswick underused but still prominent; and last but not least Molly Peters as everyone's favourite physiotherapist); one of John Barry's top scores (see music forum for me rambling on about it in detail); and stunningly beautiful photography.
+ 1, agreed - my favourite Bond film. It's a magnificent, sprawling production with one of the series' best villains too, and the underwater battles have never been bettered since - in any film series.
But I'm not sure it's underrated in the same way that QoS is underrated.
I was 9 when TB was released and there really was nothing like it before or since in my memory - Bond mania was at it's zenith with TB related product absolutely everywhere and I thought it was fabulous - it has slipped a little in my opinion of late as parts of it are undeniably slow - but the sheer spectacle of this and the following YOLT are unsurpassed. Also agree with Barbel that the Bond Girls in TB are the best -{

^ fair enough. While I don't rate it as highly as some other Bonds, I really do like TB. It's such an enjoyable watch, it's like being a playboy on holiday. It's not as polished as GF, but I certainly enjoy it more.
1. Licence to Kill
Forgotten about when people talk about the grittiness of Craig, and overlooked because Dalton is Bond, LTK is the most underrated Bond film. In a time when people crave dark and serious Bind, it baffles me how LTK is still underrated. Unlike OHMSS, which became more and more popular over time, LTK's popularity simply hasn't changed.
2. For Your Eyes Only
When people think Moore, they think of space battles and Tarzan swings. Sadly, only the silliness of the Moore era is remembered, which is truly a shame, because it means FYEO goes by without a mention. It manage to balance Moore's humour with a more grounded story, whilst still keeping the feel of a more grand film like TSWLM.
3. Tomorrow Never Dies
This film is no way perfect, but the first hour or so is Bond gold. It's classic Bond, and if the last hour had been more like this, it would be Brosnan's best. However, the film is overlooked by many people, because it doesn't fit into the two categories of Brosnan's Bond: the great (GE) and the silly (TWINE, DAD). TND is the Moore film of the 90s, and really deserves a second chance before being dismissed as a silly film.
4. Octopussy
When people hear Bond in a clown suit, you can bet they probably don't even give this one a chance. But OP is, to me, Moore at his best; he's at an age where he's not too old, and the Bond girl is also of a suitable age. The brilliance is that the silly idea of Bond as a clown is executed perfectly, and it has loads of other great moments, like 009's death.
5. A View to a Kill
It shocks me that people think this is the worst Bond film. It's just so.....weird. Christopher Walken as a Bond villain, Grace Jones as his henchwoman, and an old Bond - it really shouldn't work, but it's just so crazy it has to be admired.
6. Moonraker
The movie that took Bond into space - and yet it's still more believable than DAD. This movie knows that it's stupid, and it embraces it to the full. It's a fast paced sci fi adventure, and it's amazing it didn't kill the franchise. Why? Because despite its insane premise, it's still an enjoyable film - and not because it's bad. It acts as a parody, and it's Bind at his most fun.
How would have Oscar Wilde have put it? To spell "Bond" wrong once would be an accident. To spell it wrong twice would seem like carelessness.
Not sure why you think Moonraker is "stupid" or a "parody" or why you think TWINE is "silly" Both films are straight up, pure 007 movies.
Also, Moonraker didn't even come close to "killing the franchise" … quite the opposite in fact. Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?

I think it's adequately rated. While it has its great moments, and a faily-good performance from Dalton, it still isn't good enough. While parts are gritty, some are just plain silly.
How would have Oscar Wilde have put it? To spell "Bond" wrong once would be an accident. To spell it wrong twice would seem like carelessness.
MilleniumForce has written "Bind" 17 times in the past year, and not one of those times did he mean "bind". I wonder what Oscar Wilde (or Hugo Drax) would have to say about that?
My favorite dubbed line of the series. It is so messed up!
Here's my 6...
1.) Moonraker - Currently my #1 film and I urge those who hate it to embrace the fun. It is a true over the top spectacle, great for two hours of fantastical escapist fun, which is what the Bond films should be, right?
2.) Octopussy - Use to be last in my rankings and has climbed to top 10 status. Take out the super campy bits (which amount to less than 90 seconds of screen time) and it's a fantastic thrill ride with an actually pretty intriguing plot! Louis Jourdan is delicious as Kamal Khan.
3.) The Living Daylights - Ok, this one gets a lot of love from the hardcore Bond fans, but it's #2 on my rankings at the moment, which is higher than even most of the hardcores. Amongst casual fans, this one gets lost, which is why I have it so high on the underrated scale.
4.) Diamonds are Forever - Another one that use to be last on my rankings, it still is in the last grouping, but it is steadily rising. Similar to OP, take out a few of the super camp moments and you have a pretty decent fun adventure. The moon buggy scene still stalls the film for me as does Bambi & Thumper which is why it hasn't risen even more in my rankings. Wint and Kidd are absolutely brilliant and wish they were in it more in the 2nd half of the film.
5.) Live and Let Die - Most fans have this in the middle of their rankings, same goes for casual viewers. I have this solidly in my top 5 at the moment, so I would say it's a bit underrated! LALD is what really brought Bond to the forefront of action/stunts in the film industry
6.) The Man with the Golden Gun - Many have this one in the bottom 3. I have it in the 15-18 range at the moment which would classify TMWTGG as slightly underrated.

Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
On that note, the most overrated Bond movie for has got to be Casino Royale. Each time I see it it goes down on my rankings, as it does not feel like a 007 film at all. Skyfall and Spectre felt more like traditional Bond than Craig's first two performances.
An honourable mention would be Goldfinger. I like it a lot and just watched it the other day, but why? It isn't perfect by any means. If the second half of the film had been like the first half, yes it probably would have been up there. Kentucky was in my opinion a very dull location, I don't like Honor Black-man as Pussy Galore and the entire gas sequence where everyone virtually passes out looks bad by today's standards. Weighing it all up, for that and entertainment factors, I give A View To A Kill the better score. This is one of the reasons as to why From Russia With Love is my favourite Bond film starring Sean Connery.
^ You're not alone in that opinion there Wadsy. CR and GF have started sinking in my rankings. CR because of the tedious nature of it (it's not that enjoyable to watch) and the 2nd half of GF - it's boring.

lol, I saw it coming. I honestly really want to like it, but I can't. Kinda like how Calvin Dyson really wishes he liked Thunderball in his review, but doesn't. I'll be frank, my problems with TND ultimately come down to poor locations, poor villain, and poor Bond girls. Brosnan was pretty good though, I just wish he had better material to work by.
