I come from a country where I've witnessed cold sectarian hatred first hand, I've see what the love of a God and a deep hatred for "others" is like. We've had small church groups gunned down as they attended a service, and on the other side we've had ordinary people tortured to death in driniking clubs for " Entertainment " .
So perhaps my views on religion, may be usual but I think they're valid. Even today the churches are persecuting

So I will leave the discussion, as perhaps my views " from experience" are not mainstream.

It's a shame these discussions break down like this, particularly as members contribute from their own perspectives and experiences, only by considering each opinion on its merits cam we ever hope to understand how the world works.
From my own experiences of working, living, dealing and fighting in many different places I've personally concluded that different cultures simply do not and can not happily coexist, what we in the "civilised" West consider as a crime or an atrocity others call normal and justice. Religious. Plays a big part in many of the world's bloodiest chapters. The Christian faith is responsible for more bloodshed than stalin and Hitler put together, the Muslim faith is worse still. But devout followers of faith fight with God on there side. For some cultures democracy will always be a Greek drolery and simply can not work.
What is happening now accross the middle east is a result of historic interference and sectarian fighting.
Humans are most inhumane race on the planet and capable of extreme horrors in the name of religion and humanitarianism.
Sad thing is that people who stood up for Erdogan on Friday night will receive less democracy in the end.
They will get a Sultan Erdogan, less freedom of speech and opinion and less independent media and justice. He already mentioned that the coup was 'godsent'

Whether or not Erdogan was behind the coup attempt, he certainly won the lottery with it. He refers to the coup attempt as a putsch when the real putsch is what he's done since: rounding up thousands of judges, military, police and now sacking thousands of civil servants. What little freedom of speech remained in Turkey before Friday is likely gone for good now. Erdogan was never good, but now he's little different from Lukashenko of Belarus.
