He's coming back again. Crystal Skull is a bad movie, but Ford is still solid in it. I didn't ruin the old movies for me. In fact, it gives me more appreciation for the old movies, just as Daniel Craig's Bond films gave me more appreciation of the Bond films and Bond actors before him.

Interesting, I think most special forces have a more relaxed attitude. As by that stage you
Would have already proven you were capable. Although this is only from books, I'm an
    Armchair general.
I have to assume the macho shouting at recruits does work, otherwise, I guess they'd stop
    Using it ?

I think they have a more relaxed attitude after you have to become a member of the unit. SAS doesn't care much about propper uniform and there isn't a seperate officer's mess. But many SF units seem to have instructors shout a lot of abuse at the recruits during the selection period. Some units, such as the Norwegian units, feel this makes the recruits angry and obstinate. This motivates some to stay on. Instead tehy give a minimum of feedback. Only the strongest and most self-motivated manage to get through selection with so littel positive or negative feedback.

Agree with you Matt, Ford is always solid. Crystal Skull was silly because it veered off into sci-if when Indy has always been more supernatural, so it was wide of the mark.

But look (IMO) how good The Force Awakens was, and Ford was terrific in that - if they let JJ Abrams make IJ5 then it could be terrific.

Agreed on both counts {[] . It wasn't just nostalgia that carried him in that movie (although that obviously helped). By the way, have you seen this? https://www.theguardian.com/film/2016/jul/26/star-wars-production-company-admits-health-and-safety-breaches-harrison-ford

Good news for Yorkshire you are the most British of all of us :D
In a new study of British genes, it's roughly 37% Anglo-Saxon,
22% Celtic, and 20% western European. Then some smaller groups.
    But in Yorkshire it's something like 45% Anglo-Saxon. :))
They didn't say how Lancashire worked out.

I'm quite aware how British I am, my surname came over with the Normandy invasion, my grandmother was a quarter french on my mother's side, but my dad's family is about as true as you can get, to the extent that we have a village bearing our family name.
I live in North Yorkshire and I'm sure it's one of the happiest county's in England, due to the stunning scenery, places like York and low crime :) the happiness levels in York drop sharply on the weekends when the tee/Tyne side invasion happens.

Last night I wrote a piece for the "SOE (Special Operations Executive)" thread about the Norwegian Naval Independent Unit/Royal Norwegian Naval Special Unit, better known here as the Shetland Gang or Shetland Bus. The unit was a part of the SOE, but their mission was to smugle agents, supplies and refugees accross the North Sea, most of the tiem using small motorized fishing boats. I have illustrated with photos I found on the internet. Hopefully some of you will find it interesting.

    (googles "lancers")

So, armoured infantry. Norway has one bataljon and one company of those .... :#

I also a added a video and some info on the most decorated naval officer in WWII on the SOE thread.

I thought it might have been Mitsubishi Lancers ? :p

Once again, it's probably not said often enough but I think we all owe a debt of gratitude to all those who
Have worn the uniform in the many military and police services, all helping to protect our society .........
...... Except for any traffic Police ;). ... Ah ! What the hell them too. {[]

I'd have fancied the Lancers in that one! Corollas aren't known for their ruggedness.

Yes, I've read about many companies and stores offering discounts etc to service personnel, which
I think could be done over here. I also watched a great YouTube video about a bikers organisation. Who
Attend all military funerals, and use their bikes and flags to hide or drown out any protestors, from the
    Family of the deceased.
( Although what kind of fanatical scumbag would protest at a funeral ) :#

Apparantly at shows and particularly around the theme parks they are asked to stand up, including family and given a round of applause and cheered. Over here your just kind of looked at weirdly. I saw some young sea cadets recently in full uniform and told them they should be proud of themselves, as they walked away some drunken blokes mocked them, I was half tempted to hand out some good manners lessons :D . But the wife isn't keen on that sort of thing. I think 2 years compulsory national service would be a good thing. Unless studying for a properly useful vocatio.

I think given the threat, we're facing at the moment, National Service would be a great idea.
Even if only a part time thing like the TA.
I remember reading that a pub ( somewhere in England, I can't remember where exactly ) actually
Asked several soldiers to leave as they were in uniform. I was thinking at the time, it it had have
Been America, they probably would have been given a free round of drinks !

Sweden stopped calling in conscripts in 2010, intending to make the military all-professional. Now they are considering going back to conscription because they can't recruit enough soldiers. It also gives the population conection to the military.
  • ChriscoopChriscoop Belize Posts: 10,449MI6 Agent
It does, not just military, you could also include the merchant navy, there just seems to be a complete lack of respect for the military in the UK. Almost as if it's just full of thick dropouts with nothing better to do. There are some very clever people in the military, Sandhurst is tough!
