Not so sure about that right pocket but the color looks the part. I ended up going with the Banana Republic Emerson. I liked the fit so much that the navy version ended up working as a CR Venice outfit. Pants are so difficult because everyone has different bodies and certain brands work better than others on everyone.

The post on the James Bond ties is live! As I said, I did something different with this "Bond Under $50" post. I've been looking for months now for alternatives for Craig's ties but honestly nothing has really worked for me. So I asked Indy Magnoli if he could cut us a deal on his replicas, and he agreed to take $10 off the price of his Connery knit ties and Craig ties. Use the code "ICONIC" at the checkout to get the discount. The knit ties are now $45 and the Craig ties are $50.

And just so everything is transparent: I'm not getting anything out of this (no affiliate links, no free ties, no advertising or sponsorship fee). I was just getting really frustrated trying to find decent options from other brands and Indy agreed to help me out. Thanks Indy!

I just went to order a tie and I used the discount code but during checkout, the $10 off was never applied. :#

If anyone ordered a tie using the discount code ICONIC, did it work for you?

Haven't been on in a while but am inspired to come back after finding a potential Neil Barrett Spectre trouser alternative at Costco...

These are English Laundry jeans that cost $19.99.... the design is a pretty decent match but they are jeans, as opposed to (what I'm assuming are) the dress pant feel of the Neil Barretts.

    IMG_2314.jpg

I managed to find a pair of the gray in my size at my local Costco. They are cotton and rather lightweight. They feel more like trousers than jeans. I just tried them on at home. They fit true to size and are a slim or slim-straight fit. Quite decent for the price. The pattern isn't a true houndstooth or puppystooth. The Costco website list it as tonal stitching. After striking out last year with the Uniqlo houndstooth jeans, I'm happy to have these. I like them well enough to have ordered a black pair in my size from the Costco website. In the store the black with white tonal stitching gave the impression of a color between black and a dark charcoal gray.

There are limited sizes in the gray and blue on the Costco website.

I had better luck with trousers than the budget TF Morocco polo.

The COS polos just don't work for me. The medium is a bit small in the shoulders while the large is a little baggy in the chest. The shirts are VERY lightweight. The dealbreaker is the small neck hole. I could barely get my 7 5/8 US hat-sized head through it. Even at $11 each they aren't wotth the effort. Back they go.

And then there is the Magnoli. I got a size L and it is fitted. Tighter than I usually wear, but it feels okay. But even then the neck hole is a bit too large and gaping. I assume the XL would be more comfortable in the chest but the neck would be even bigger. The real problem is the length of the shirt. It's fine standing or raising my arms part way but the shirt rides up if I reach above my head. At 6'4" the shirt would be better if it were around 1.5" longer. I am considering selling it.

When I find these alternatives, I go off merely the design from a computer screen. lol

    I hope you liked them!

And it is nice to know that they feel more like trousers, and from what you're saying they lack the bulkiness of denim jeans, but I guess the slim fitting may be too tight.

Alright, back from my business trip. I don't get to the States very often, so I had a laundry list from the wife of things I needed to buy for the son. But I did manage to sneak in a few purchases of my own.

Levis 508s and a couple of knit ties

    Levis-508-and-knit-ties.jpg

How's this for a match for the DAD cuba shirt? $9.99 at Marshalls:

    DAD-Cuba-shirt.jpg

    DAD-Cuba-shirt-closeup.jpg

And my big score: Barbour Beauly. Regular $399. Found it on the XXL rack of a department store final clearance sale area. Size medium (pays to hunt). Price tag said $135. But when they were ringing it through they told me there was an extra 40% off the sale price on clearance items. It's not the right color, but a $400 Barbour for $81? SOLD!!!!

    Barbour-Beauly.jpg

I'm going to use it for a post on "alternatives for Bond's classic looks". Same styles but using different colors.

In other news: new alternatives for the black CR PTS Cardigan:

Lots more to come this week!

Sorry to hear they didn't work for you. I've had a similar experience between small and medium, but I kept both and now wear them depending on my form of the day :)) also liked the light weight in the summer.

If anyone ordered a tie using the discount code ICONIC, did it work for you?

    Hi Enjoying Death,
I know you were having more problems with the code today, but Indy thinks he has it fixed if you want to try again. I'm really sorry it caused you frustration!!

    Seems to be working now.

Question for Indy though; can he combine shipping? I want to order 3 ties but it seems wasteful to make 3 different shipments instead of packing all 3 ties together.

Great! Thanks for your patience. I'll write Indy directly and ask him about shipping. I'll reply back here as soon as I have an answer.

If you want to order three ties with the discount, you'll need to order them separately. They will still be shipped today as long as you order them on the same day. If you want to upgrade your shipping, you only need to do it to one of the orders and the other orders will ship together with the upgraded one. Hope that's clear enough.

I noticed the Bolivia tie is out of stock. Any idea when it will be available again?

I've just ordered the Montenegro and Istanbul ties but was hoping to get that Bolivia tie too and have all 3 shipped together.

Post update: Lots of new alternatives for the N.Peal Skyfall sweater, most under $50:

I'm also trying a slightly different layout for the front page of the site. I think it makes it easier to find content. If anyone wants to give feedback (positive AND negative), it would be appreciated! {[]

New post: The Affordable Bond Fall Wardrobe

A few of the items are things we've seen before, but I also added some new things (sort of preview of future posts I'm working on). And there's a great new alternative for the SF Barbour!

I just want to thank the gentleman named "Suit" on here formally, for finding me one of the last XS Menlos on the planet. I mentioned on here that I lost a bid for a Menlo @ $650 a while back. Suit showed me that someone was selling more on eBay, but the price was over $800, so I told Suit I couldn't afford that right now. Well, Suit didn't stop there. He must have been keeping an eye out because when it went on sale for $615, Suit sent me a message and let me know. I couldn't resist. All said and done, I grabbed a Menlo for around $650, tax, tag, and title (I make the car reference because that is more expensive than my second car :)) - a stick Geo Metro). It's the new line of Menlos, so not completely SA, but as far as budget alternatives go, it's as good as it gets. Thought I would share with the community. Thanks man!
