"Stranger Things" on NetFlix

Anybody watch "Stranger Things" on NetFlix? What I liked about it was that it actually looked like it took place in 1983 and downplayed cliche 80's references. When they did give us a little nostagia, it felt natural, not forced. It played out like an 8 hour episode from the first season of "The X-Files" with a group of pre-teens and a small town cop uncovering a supernatural mystery.

I binge watched the series in three days. And with only 8 episodes, it's not much of an investment of time. It dragged a little in the middle episodes, but kept me intrigued enough to stay up until 2AM watching it a couple nights.

I enjoyed the show. I graduated high school in 1984 and, really, it didn't remind me of the '80s (sorry, Winona Ryder, no one had a rotary phone in '83--not even the poorest people); but it DID remind me of '80s movies. . .E.T., Poltergeist, Goonies, etc. . . . It works really well as a nostalgia piece.

I too really enjoyed it. Great homage to the classic 80s films

Oh no. We had a rotary phone in the 80s. Worked great!

Yeah, we had a rotary phone coz that's what BT gave you. If you wanted anything else you went out and bought it. Now no one gives you a phone with your line fee.

I wish we'd kept ours. It was the standard green BT issue. :)

In the 1980's my parents would have loved a rotary phone! Instead we had one which you had to crank first and wait for the operator to answer... then you had to give the operator the number and wait to be called back once the connection was obtained.

Just finished watching this series after hearing about it so much. Very well done and as mentioned I loved the nostalgia and homages to the 80's, granted I was born in 1989 so I cant attest to the authenticity. Reminded me a lot of Super 8 as well which was a homage to Spielberg too. The kid actors, especially Eleven, were phenomenal and made the show. Didn't realize the Police chief was in Quantum of Solace until the final episodes.
