Not suggesting the Dalton films were bad Bond's. I enjoy watching both of them as with all the Bonds. I have some quibbles with casting and some scenes, but that happens with a lot of movies. It's only in my opinion they were still tailoring the scripts as if Moore were in them (in the vein of FYEO) rather than trying to reboot the style so they would more fit Dalton's take. They tweaked them in some scenes to allow him to show a little of his own style, but not enough. He still had to dine on Moore's leftovers when they should have been newly baked for Dalton. I won't comment anymore here on this as it's gotten away from the original question of MrZareba's post.
I don't think DC Bond or Bond in general is religious, as has been said here, but having just read Dr. No, the following passage near the end came to my mind:
And where had Doctor No's soul gone to? Had it been a bad soul or just a mad one? Bond thought of the burned twist down in the swamp that had been Quarrel. He remembered the soft ways of the big body, the innocence in the grey, horizon-seeking eyes, the simple lusts and desires, the reverence for superstitions and instincts, the childish faults, the loyalty and even love that Quarrel had given him—the warmth, there was only one word for it, of the man. Surely he hadn't, gone to the same place as Doctor No. Whatever happened to dead people, there was surely one place for the warm and another for the cold. And which, when the time came, would he, Bond, go to?
It seems that Bond does believe at least in the possibility of an afterlife, and he even tentatively hopes for his own salvation. This doesn't require a personal god of course, but these thoughts/ hopes do not suit an atheist's worldview either.
