Dark of the Sun, 1966 movie staring Rod Taylor as a mercenary in the Congo trying to recover diamonds and rescue miners and their families. Very brutal for the time based on Wilbur Smiths second book, I hadn't seen it for years and found it on Amazon video.
I watched Majuba. Not a film that anyone here is likely to have heard of. It is a South African production from 1968, about a conflict between the British military and Boer commandos in 1881.
It was quite interesting and entertaining, with some grand landscapes and decent battle recreations but not very impressive in terms of the acting which is extremely wooden. As a fan of films such as Zulu, I felt it was worth checking out. The costumes, weapons, and period details were done quite well. It is basically a South African attempt to create a film in the style of something like Zulu, but certainly with a far smaller budget and with some actors who are acting in a very theatrical style.
As it was Halloween I wanted something a little creepy, so watched " What Lies Beneath"
I haven't seen it in years but you can clearly see the Hitchcock influence throughout the
Movie. Even the music harks back to some of those great 60s thrillers.

On my many recent flights have watched Jaws, Butch Cassidy, The Sting, Unforgiven and some more - I prefer old films on flights as you can drift in and out of them and not lose the plot as seen so many times before.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

If you're referring to Downfall I'm a little surprised by this review. I thought it was superb - brilliant performances which left me surprised that Ganz isn't at least an Oscar nominee.

Skills to fight back. I found it very enjoyable.

London Has Fallen. Ya dumb Brits--ya don't even know that the entire Metropolitan Police, the Queen's Guard, and everyone involved in London's infrastructure and tourism industry is really an Islamic terrorist who all destroy your capital city in order to capture the macho U.S. president. And it takes a two-fisted, hard-talking American Secret Service agent to set y'all straight. Too bad, though, that Gerard Butler plays the hero, affecting an American accent that's so broad and so bad I wonder if he was getting back at us for Dick Van Dyke's attempt at Cockney.
All kidding aside, this movie is putrid--so jingoistic and even racist I'd wonder if a certain presidential candidate was behind it. Avoid.

I am a fan of the novels and although Cruise is not as imposing as the book character it doesn't really effect the movie - the director has carefully manipulated the scenes so his stature is not noticeably short/small. Well worth a look.

Went to the cinema with Mrs CHB to see Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. It's very good, better than the first in the series and Cruise looks ok as the hero. I am a fan of the novels and although Cruise is not as imposing as the book character it doesn't really effect the movie - the director has carefully manipulated the scenes so his stature is not noticeably short/small. Well worth a look.
I saw this last week...I'm currently on book 7 at the moment...sorry, but I can't take Cruise seriously as Reacher...the film is ok, nothing special but watchable...

Whereas I was aghast when I first heard that Cruise was going to be Reacher I think he's done a decent job, Sir Miles, but fully understand that some cannot take him seriously compared to the book character. -{

Watched the 1969 version of The Italian Job. An all-time British classic! Won't touch the American version with a barge pole!

but my last film I watched was the new jungle book ,I enjoyed it ,but then I am a Disney nut ) but out of the two jungle book films ,id take the cartoon one any day

A sombre, serious look at Hitler's last days. Bruno Ganz couldn't have been better, and our old friend Gotz Otto was excellently efficient.
The DVD has been sitting on my shelf for a couple of years now, and I still haven't got round to seeing it.
