Either Max Zorin or Franz Sanchez.

Zorin because.. he used May Day to strangle Tibbet, throw a guy off the blimp and then he himself tried to kill Bond twice, had a KGB agent thrown into a moving propeller and gunned down 20 or more miners

Sanchez... An unpopular opinion, maybe? Della possibly raped and killed by brutal South Americans, the man in the opening scene caught sleeping with Lupe, Krest's head explosion and awful killings of his own henchmen.

For me it's a toss up between Blofeld and Drax. Maybe Drax edges it for trying to wipe out humanity.

Drax very evil indeed. Sheer scale.

That said, Hitlerian tendencies a reason to cast a Frenchman rather than a German? To avoid unPC associations? He was German in the novel and a part of Flemings anti-German stance.

Drax also puts Bond down on first meeting. His reference to cucumber sandwiches is easily as evil in its own way as his mass genocide program.

Zorin nakedly displays his murderous tendencies.

Engagingly, few Bond villains would be bad company over a dinner and would doubtless serve excellent alcoholic accompaniment. -{ For that, much an be forgiven, as indeed Bond does when commenting on Stromberg's wine cellar.

Rodgriquez is an odious villain, and something of a bore with his shaggy dog story, or should that be shaggy rat? In fact, all Cragi's villains commit the ultimate sin of being a bit boring, with some dodgy lecture to impart. No bad thing, but done like a supply teacher exceeding his duties.

To qualify MR as an Anglo-French production (for financial reasons), a certain amount of French actors had to be cast in leading roles so having a Frenchman as Drax was purely a financial decision. Casting Michel Lonsdale was an excellent artistic decision.

He may have been, but he was too campy along with the other henchmen of the film to be considered that 'evil'.

I agree. Michel Lonsdale played such a quintessential Bond villain. Classy and understated in performance, but so obviously evil.

Well, Corinne Dufour was the French actress, who were the others?

Interesting info, Barbel. Maybe you also meant a French crew, as of course the excellent cinematography was from the guy who did Day of the Jackal, which also starred Lonsdale.

    Yes, crew as well.
Dolly, the little blonde who isn't wearing braces, was played by a French actress, and many of the smaller parts (eg the pilot in the PTS) were played by French actors/actresses.

I think the literary Dr no is pretty damn evil, having women eaten alive by crabs (no butlins jokes please) and the treatment of bond.
In the films Drax is pretty diabolical, but then as is greene with his plan to cause drought to millions.
It was either that.....or the priesthood

    Drax, hands down!

    And he played piano.

Wouldn't it'd been great if he's played some boogie-woogie after he was finished with Chopin? :)) :)) :))

Well, he faked playing piano, anyway: http://www.ajb007.co.uk/topic/46311/some-thoughts-on-the-chopin-waltz-played-by-hugo-drax-in-moonraker/
