TH is reportedly "taking most of 2017 off" - a break, he claims, from acting.

I believe that this is smoke and mirrors and 2018 will see TH as Bond. EON appear to be playing a very tight game with Bond news.

So TH is basically "phoning in sick " for a year ? ;)

    Looks like it.

Funnily enough, in the recent "Bolognese" GQ interview he adamantly states that he will not go into hiding.

I am even more convinced that the Bond 25 machine is starting up

    I would be more than happy if he got the gig -{

I read in media his mother is dying of cancer. Possibly media bullshit (hopefully).

However if true I guess maybe he is not secretly filming Bond

If the media reports are correct, then fair play to him for spending so much time with her.

I don't think there's any secret filming going on. If TH's 2017 break has anything to do with Bond (I very much hope it has nothing to do with an ill mother), it's probably more in an effort to rejuvenate and prepare himself for a grueling 6 month Bond shoot beginning at year's end. Let's not forget that the Spectre shoot was so taxing Daniel Craig contemplated suicide at just the thought of going through it again :))

I agree. EON would have gone public before shooting anything other than a screentest of a new Bond.

    You think?

What better way to keep everyone excited by not announcing anything ?

Has it ever happened that the lead of a major film franchise has been changed and the new actor starts filming for the movie before his name is made public? I don't think that's what happening with Bond, but I admit it would be cool to anounce the new Bond at a press conferance with actually footage of him as Bond.

It really is a crazy schedule and Post Production is always very quick. The films seem to take eons to gestate and then Bam! I often feel that the film's would benefit from a longer time in post. Forster certainly felt that editing and post were a nightmare.

I agree with you. Most films of the same magnitude spent considerably longer in post production. That would also help with the fatigue Craig displayed during the press tour to promote the film.

I'm just going to call it and say that Daniel Craig will be back. At this point, I'd raise my eyebrows very high in true Roger fashion if he wasn't to return.

MGM was going to be sold to a Chinese company?

    http://www.marketwatch.com/story/bond-studio-mgm-in-talks-to-sell-to-chinese-buyer-report-2017-02-25

Could be fake news!, MGM denied the claim, but if MGM is looking at potential buyers due to cashflow problems it could mean Bond 25 is delayed and that could mean recasting Bond.

    Ryan Gosling hahaha - http://www.express.co.uk/entertainment/films/773240/James-Bond-Ryan-Gosling-replace-Daniel-Craig-007

"It seems bookmakers have cut his odds because of the way he kept his composure when La La Land was mistakenly named Best Picture at the Oscars on Sunday."

I know it's the Express but come on, so he keeps his cool and all of sudden he could be the next James Bond, it's not even April fools day.

Just saw trailer for skull Island, TH looks pretty cool, I would be more than happy if he is Bond 7 even if DC comes back for one more TH would only be 40 for Bond26 and PBS was 42 and RM 46! So long as it's not another Bond begins :)) also might just add TH is a bloody good actor has anyone seen his portrayal of Hank Williams? I think he would give Bond is all!

I've been watching SS-GB on the BBC, a Len Dieghton novel adapted, written and produced by Purvis and Wade. I must say it feels very much like 'reading' a Fleming Bond to me, and the lead, Sam Riley although quite young looking has similar features to Roger Moore, but has an intensity that befits a harder edged Bond. A bit of time in the Gym and I think he'd be great. If he's been mentioned before, apologies for any repetition!

I saw the Light (get it?) TH was great. I'm looking forward to Skull Island.

Hiddleston and Aidan Turner both have two of the important traits that are important to the Bond formula, charisma and screen presence.
It's funny, but most point to Hiddleston's turn in "The Night Manager" as proof of his Bond suitability. I look at things a bit differently. I believe there are a lot of British actors who could have done very well in "The Night Manager". It's Hiddleston's role as Loki which gives him the upper hand for Bond. The sardonic wit, cruel humor and touch of sadism he conveys so well as Loki IMO will translate very well to Bond and also help separate him from Craig's portrayal.

On the Radio 1 Breakfast Show host Nick Grimshaw asked Tom Hiddleston about the rumours of him being cast as the next Doctor Who or James Bond, here's what he had to say.

"Obviously it's very flattering that people think I'm part of the conversation ... Neither of those two opportunities have come my way. [...] It's difficult because people say 'how would you feel if you were asked?' and you don't know because you haven't been asked."

One spin on this is that TH has to say he hasn't been contacted about Bond either way. If he hasn't been asked he shouldn't lie, but if sir Miles is right he probably isn't alowed to say he has been contacted.
