Alright, finally! The Iconic Alternatives Classified(s) are ready to go into beta!!

I know some of you guys have things you want to sell and things you want to buy. My target is to run the beta test for 1 week, get feedback from you fine folks, make the recommended changes (if I can) and then go live the week of March 26th. Just PM me here if you want to help this coming week with the testing (creating your account and creating listings). Chriscoop, I will shoot you a PM with the link in a couple of minutes.

With this almost complete, I can now get back to writing posts! :D

Thanks all and enjoy your weekend!

Got this is Zara today. £40. Weirdly they also have a Midnight Blue version. I would have got that too but i ordered a Wested London suede jacket today. They also had slightly different versions which were 10 quid more. Not screen acurate but has nice details. Very light weight, synthetic but well happy personally.

Slightly darker than this. The photo makes it look quite light.

Hi Smirking, glad you're happy with the purchase. I am considering one myself and was wondering a few things:

How is the quality? Does it look like real suede? How is the sizing? I know that Zara typically runs quite small.

If you could provide some insight, I would be most grateful. Thanks.

Morning Col. OK, sizing wise, I got a LG. The Xl was too big for me. I have a 40" chest and a 35ish waist, so zipped up, around the waist it was a touch tight, but doable. Really nice stitching detail in the arms and shoulders. For me it did seem true to size.

Yes it looks like real suede, but its 100% polyester. it is very very lightweight though and even though it was a mild day on Saturday i wore it out with a Sunspel Riviera and i was quite warm so could be a bit sweaty on warm days.

Quality is OK actually. Its the first non leather jacket i have bought that wasn't from Jonathan A Logan (look him up, he'll make you anything you like) for 10 years. Obviously, its factory made, but for the money, i was happy with it as a budget alternative if you want the general look and not too fussed about screen accuracy.

They have one exactly the same but midnight blue and they had another version of the midnight blue jacket which was £10 more and a lot heavier and a slightly better cut.
I also asked while i was paying for it, these are brand new and just in. Depending on what my Wested jacket turns out to look like, i might go back and get the blue one as well.

This is the more expensive midnight blue one i tried one. i loved it, although the snap collar was a bit annoying

I have last year's version of this, pretty much identical but with buttoned cuffs, in XL, if anyone would like it, I'd let it go for £15, only worn once, and I now have the wested suede version. Drop me a pm.

I tried on the Zara alternative to the Matchless jacket yesterday. As smirkingrevenge stated it is a very light jacket. A little big baggier than I'd like. And it does not breath very well. It is also a true mustard colour. If it comes in a light beige then I would hop on it.

I would actually go for the Superdry slim suede Harrington as a viable alternative. The (real) leather is much better quality, and the fit is trimmer. It also has that mock collar.

Agreed, it doesn't breath at all. I should have stated that yes, it's darker than the original. To be honest, i prefer the darker.

I have those next linen trousers as well. Wore them in Barbados last year with a black linen shirt for a semi Casino Royale Bahamas night scene.

DC is always caring around a olive canvas overnight bag. I found this bag on Amazon for $40 USD. I have started lugging it around and it has held up really well! Mr. Vesper has one as well.

Alternative for the BC Morocco jacket from NZ/Aus based Rodd & Gunn (great company, made Tom Cruise's jacket in the latest Jack Reacher flick).

Definitely a more original fit rather than slim/tailored fit, so going to need to get a bit of work done on mine when it arrives. Two not three buttons, but the colour is pretty close, 60% cotton 40% linen, dual vents and 4 button (probably not working) cuffs so i'm happy with it. Also R&G have $100 of jackets currently.

I'm in NZ and have lots of R&G, (well, its a kiwi brand after all!)and i think you can get them in the US too - they have had some good pieces in the past, including decent 'Riviera' style polo shirts and my BC alternative SP trousers are from 2 years ago, and i have a Cashmere pullover that is a good n-peal alternative

I just seen they have a reasonable QoS Haiti jacket too... think i would spend the $$ on a Royale, but its not too bad

Ahh yes I forgot about that one. I saw it online a couple of weeks ago and tried it on in store last week. Navy not black and the tab on the collar is a little too short to fold back as per the SA Y3, but it's still a great jacket!

Personally I find Rodd & Gunn to be very generous in fits. But their target audience are not those who would enjoy slim or tailored cut. I was interested in their Jack Jacket from Jack Reacher: Never go Back, but just cannot get over the baggy fit. I actually tried the Ascot Jacket in-store, and unfortunately it does not resemble the Y3 from QoS at all. Think middle-aged dad more-so then suave action hero/secret agent. :#

Just want to give a shout-out to the Golden Fox 6" Boondocker Boots (J Crew Kenton alternative). Amazing! Just amazing. They are incredibly comfortable right our of the box. The suede is supple, but the boots feel sturdy with excellent support. The (removable) insoles has these extra padding on the arch, which I originally felt to be a bit unusual, but after walking around with them I appreciate the added comfort they provided. I know I will be getting tonnes of comfortable wear out of these.

I went true to size on these - US9.5D. For reference I wear:

    Loake Kempton - UK8.5F
Converse Jack Purcell OTR - US10
    Adidas Ultra boost - US9.5
    Nike Air Max 90 - US10

While I think the Loake Kepmton is one of the best alternative's to the Church's Ryder III boots from QOS, there is one from Allen Edmonds on Massdrop. They appear to be the Dundee 2.0 boots on the 511 last which retail for $395. Those boots are also on clearance at $247.

The boots on Massdrop are actually a custom creation done in partnership with Allen Edmonds. They aren't the Dundees but are closer to desert boots. Dappered describes them as "luxurious but not trail ready."

I'd get the Loakes or the Dundees.

All right, ladies and gentlemen! I am very happy to announce that the Iconic Alternatives Classified(s) are now open to AJB007 forum members! You can get started here:

    http://www.iconicalternatives.com/listings/

The Classified(s) are completely free for individual users. There’s absolutely no cost for creating your account, posting a listing, contacting sellers, or completing a transaction. This article should help you get started and answer most questions:

    http://www.iconicalternatives.com/introduction-ia-classifieds/

We already have a few items listed from some of our fine members here. On Sunday, I will be opening the Classified(s) to the general public and starting the promotional push. So if you have something you’re trying to sell, I would suggest creating your listing this weekend.

And I would really appreciate it if you could help spread the word around here about this new feature. After all, things like this are only as good as the stuff folks are selling.

Of course, please let me know about any suggestions or recommendations you may have or issues you find. Thanks again and I really hope this new feature helps you find good homes for the items you’re selling!

_Stocks Thanks! I'm glad you like it!

    Couple of quick notes:

    1. Right now the Classified(s) are only visible to AJB007 members and few others I invited. So please do not expect too much traffic before Sunday when I open it to the public and start the promotion campaign.

    2. I've already made one change to the Listing creation form: I've added another field for prices in other currencies. The default currency for the system is U.S. dollars. So any price you enter in the "Your Price" field will be displayed with the "$" in front. But with this new field, you can also enter the price in your local currency. However, you will still need to the add the price in U.S.$ at the end of the form as well if you want your Listing to be searchable by price. More about this in this article:

    http://www.iconicalternatives.com/create-ia-classifieds-listing/

I am looking for other less complicated solutions to this, but it's a little tricky since the system doesn't automatically have this functionality. We'll get there!

    Thanks again!

Oh it seems you are right, I researched the two and here are the differences:

    2-eyelet vs. 3-eyelet chukka
Reverse calf leather vs. split suede
Unlined vs. lined (reverse calf will feel semi-lined since the smooth side is on the inside??)
    Dovetail heel vs. rubber heel
Rounded design details, more subtle stitching
    "Massdrop 1-year Limited Warranty"

Either one isn't a bad alternative for the Church Ryder III if you don't mind the extra contrast stitching.

    Some other updates:

I've been neglecting the Community Gallery, but I updated that this morning with some of the more recent pictures you guys have been sharing:

    http://www.iconicalternatives.com/gallery/

I also received some nice items in the mail last week:

I'll have some reviews coming this week. The gren ties are from Aklasu and they are beautiful. Garza fina not grossa, so not entirely Bond accurate. But the color on that Burnt orange works great as an alternative for the TF Morocco tie. And they were also absolutely amazing people to deal with; super nice!

And I also have a 5 Favorite Looks post coming up. Lots to do!
