After giving this plenty of thought I realize we are all probably over thinking this due to no real news, and the simplest answer is usually the correct one. Take these facts and quotes quotes , Eon wants DC and is their first choice, Michael Wilson " we have a contract Daniel just needs to sign it". Othello co-star alludes to DC returning, DC "keener than not to do it" "greatest job in the world", and of course DC "At this point I'd only be doing it for the money" leads me to believe Dc is returning and this is all a prolonged ordeal for him the get the best possible deal.

That has as much validity as anything. Just to add, could it be that Craig is signed on in principle and they are just awaiting confirmation of a director, supporting cast and possibly a new distributor before making an official announcement? Craig also has two films pending release (Logan Lucky and Kings). Logan Lucky is scheduled for an August '17 release and Craig is just part of an ensemble cast so his participation in promoting the film may be lessened. Kings has no release date as of yet but he is one of the leads. Purity is still listed as in pre-production....so who knows?

Purity is supposed to start filming next month.
Purity is a prestige miniseries, so shooting will take longer than a typical TV show (The Night Manager took 31/2 months to film six episodes). Since they're shooting two seasons worth of Purity, I expect that Craig is booked up through the end of this year.
On IMDB it says that he's only in 2 episodes of Purity. I wonder if this is accurate
That's interesting. I've not read the book, but from what little knowledge I have of it, Craig's character, Christian Wolf, while being pivotal to the story and recurring is not really the main lead so he may have limited screen time. It is plausible that most of his scenes could only add up to screen time that is the equivalent to two episodes. With studio sets and CGI and clever use of alternative locations he could be done his part in a relatively short period of time.

Apparently it's going to be 20 episodes. I doubt very much that Craig will appear in only two.
In the book, Andreas Wolf is the main plot driver, more so than Purity Tyler.
But the question is how much screen time will he really have?
It's twenty one-hour episodes, so I expect the whole book to be there. In the book, Andreas Wolfe is probably in 40-50% of the scenes. He's the character that links all the others and the one with the most developed back story.

When Jonathan Franzen was on 'Late Night with Seth Meyers' last year he said Pip (Purity) and Andreas were the main characters, and that the TV show would follow the book. Not sure if he means the content or timeline, or both.
Andreas does link all the characters together, but isn't in it all that much, and when he is, quite a chunk of it is him in his youth. I assume they will include that in the show with a child/teen actor, and then Daniel will take over during or after the college years.
It does appear that Craig's onscreen time could be significant but not to the level of say The Night Manager where Tom Hiddleston was in 75% of the scenes.

Apologies if this is considered spoilery for those who haven't read the book.
There are exchanges between Wolf and other main characters that take place entirely via email and sms at various points in the book. So in theory, they could chose to film Wolf typing and sending the messages, or just the other character receiving a message from Wolf without actually seeing him. If they go for the big character reveal then he will likely be a name on a screen before we physically see him.
So are we talking a pinch, a bag or a truck full of salt? Not too familiar with pagesix so not sure how reputable their "sources" are.
Anyway if there's truth in the story it's upsetting news for any Hiddleston backers.
It has always been my preference to have Craig return for 25 but I wouldn't put much faith in pagesix being a reliable source of information. The alleged quotes from Barbara Broccoli regarding Hiddleston seem particularly fake and just typical tabloid/internet nonsense. IMO, it's not about Hiddleston or Aidan Turner being suitable to play Bond, it's more about the producers having a strong preference for Craig to return.
The last few photos I have seen of Craig he has looked particularly bad. If he wants to return, he's going to need to start looking after himself a bit or we'll be in Connery/DAF or Roger/AVTAK territory. :v

Just saw some photos of Craig from an event he attended on March 14th. He looked fine IMO. The usual Craig in-between Bonds look as far as I could tell (grey stubble, slightly haggard, very unBondlike wardrobe but slim and fit ). The Craig "looks old, bad, etc", etc seems to be par for the course in between Bond films. I will say the photos from the football matches do make him look heavy in the face (his head looks very square) but I think it has more to do with the cap he is wearing and the big telephoto lens the pictures were taken with. If he comes back for 25 I am pretty confident he will look pretty much the same as he did in SPECTRE.

It does seem as though EON is waiting for him.

Haha, thank you. It ties in nicely with my fantasy vallain's lair. Number 24 has a nice henchmen ring to it!

Craig deciding to come back has always been the wild card. I hope he doesn't, but if he does, I'll get behind it.

It's only one unreliable paper that said it, and everyone is referencing the one paper.
