How was the Mount Gay and soda?

I'm a Gosling's Black Seal drinker (to sip, or mix), and since I'm in Italy, I have plenty of Havana Club Tres Anos for Cuba Libres. Curious as to how yours was.

mmm, never tried the Goslings, I'll have to find some. For dark rum I usually go for Meyer's.
They Mount Gay and soda water was fine. Very light and refreshing, and allows one to taste the rum.
The Coke was very sweet after the soda water, but still good.

Gosling's is better than Meyers, imo. Took a little getting used to sipping it by itself. With Coke and lime, it is great. Read the reviews. I did not care for Gosling's Gold much.

And now that I'm deployed on a floating prison, I have no rum to enjoy. I greatly miss having Havana Club in the States.

Has anyone enjoyed a Mount Gay & soda or other rum cocktail lately? Rum Collins?

This is a very old thread but recently I was blabbering to my Miss about rum & coke and that Bond orders that stuff in "Casino Royale" (she's a huge fan of Craig's movies so I'm a very, very lucky man I have to say!). After reading this thread just now I'm confused, I know that he ordered a "Mount Gay with soda" in the movie but I thought that even Remmert wrote on his website that it's just basically just rum with coke. Now that I see that his description of that drink changed on JBL I guess the correct version is mount gay with carbonated water? And if that's true is it even drinkable? (no idea how Mount Gay tastes, because not a single shop in Poland is selling it, but Baccardi without cola is pretty disgusting stuff for me).

I too like a Bacardi and coke. I must have been an
Essex girl in a past life. ;)

Sadly I'm not secure enough to order anything with Gay in the title. :))

Well especially if the barman is dyslexic, what he'd hear is
" I'd like to mount a large gay with soda please"
It was either that.....or the priesthood

I think Cola is also known as a soda in some places.

If you watch that scene in CR when Bond gets his drink from the bartender, it's definitely a rum & soda, not a rum & coke. The liquid in the glass is too light to be a Cola.

Yup, nothing wrong with dark rum and soda(water)
Just like drinking whiskey and soda or bourbon and branch.

I have always held the opinion that rum and coke is a bit too much in the 7 and 7 territory....

    I've had a couple of bottles of Mount Gay lately - from Morrisons at a decent price! Was unaware of the Bond connection until recently; bought it for mixing a long cocktail - Rum Snatch: Large measure of Rum, dash of lime juice, ice, top up with American Dry Ginger or Ginger Ale for a long refreshing drink! -{

I had it at a wedding a few months ago. I noticed it behind the bar, and remembering the order in Casino Royale I decided to give it a go.

I'll be sticking to the Vodka Martinis;-)

Sounds pretty much as a riff on the old classic Dark and Stormy, will give it a try!

Also, now that summer is creeping on us, will recommend whisky and tonic, and I will also have to try Mount Gay and tonic, just to stay on the topic. Will report back as this story develops.
