I think this all lends credence to Craig returning, although I'm sure that's still tied to some combination of (1) his payday, and (2) the quality of the script. And the payday might depend on the distribution deal.

To point 2, a WGA strike is a very real possibility, and whether that results in a delay or in a rushed script, either of those things will, I suspect, result in Craig walking away.

Good point about the looming strike. But if they're not looking to start filming until late 2018, I doubt it would be a factor. Who knows, maybe Michael Wilson will get his pen out and deliver a cracker like the old days!

A WGA strike would not help things. However, a strike is a possibility, not a certainty. We also don't know how close they are to having a finished script either (more than likely not quite at this point). If there is no WGA strike or it's a short one, with the potential distributors lining up and if Craig is back there is still a strong possibility that we could have Bond 25 for a late fall 2018 release. If they start shooting in January 2018 (like SPECTRE) they will have eight more months of pre-production and more than enough time to get the right director, etc. All just guesswork on my part (and a bit of wishful thinking).

For the love of God...get the script finished now!! :s They have advance notice that the WGA might strike...best to leave only minor in-progress rewrites to non-writers, if it comes to that (again :# ). MGW isn't the scribe he wishes he were. Very frustrating that we're looking at such a situation again already.

If Craigger comes back - great. If not, let's move on, and not waste energy on his thought process. My two cents' worth.

I wonder if a way of getting around a writers strike would be to hire a director who is also known for their writing ability. For example, Sean Ellis who IMO could be a good choice for a Bond film both directed and co-wrote the screenplay for the excellent historical action/drama "Anthropoid".

If that's true then that could be a significant sign. Or it could be that they put him under a retainer contract for their expected shooting schedule to make sure he's available should DC be back. Or the whole story could be nonsense!

The great thing about if Henry Cavill takes over, is that any of his scenes could be filmed

Thought Cavill was quite good in man from uncle tbh, from that performance think he could make a good 007 in the RM kinda of way which I personally prefer and again just my opione but I find DC and TD incredibly wooden!

I also find Craig to be a very wooden actor, and Moore is my favourite Bond. But Cavill was horrible in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and would be even more wooden as Bond than Craig. As Bond I picture him as a more wooden version of Moore. Moore actually had genuine personality. Cavill lacks any human qualities. He was in the wrong spy revival. He should have been in Get Smart and played Hymie the Robot. Seriously, he'd make an amazing Hymie!

    As much as I completely disagree with you regarding Craig as Bond (and RM is not in my top four Bonds; but that's a bit complicated as it also has to do with the films not just RM) I do agree with you when it comes to Cavill as Bond. Ironically, while Cavill has been criticized for his portrayal of Superman, I actually like him as Superman mainly because the traits that would make him a poor Bond (IMO) actually work well for his characterization of the Man From Kypton (well for me anyway). Go figure. :) -{

I'm not sure how I feel about him as Superman because there are far bigger problems than his acting with the two films he has done.

Cavill just has that wooden, slightly disengaged but at the same time overly earnest good boyishness that seems about right for an alien with super powers raised in the mid west by the great grandson of Dances With Wolves. As far as the two films, they are just comic book / superhero films to me and I enjoy them for what they are. I don't see them through the same critical eyes that I see the Bond films which I have such a great passion for.

I wasn't examining them critically, I just couldn't enjoy the films at all for reasons that had nothing to do with Cavill.

I'm probably I a minority but really enjoyed MFU and HC performance and I have always wanted a guy Ritchie bond film with Cavill so this is probably closest going to get :) as said I enjoyed a lot more than I did Spectre which IMHO was dreadful!

Guardians Of The Galaxy’s Dave Bautista wants a return to the James Bond franchise

The former wrestler, who plays Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel sequel,Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2, showed his nasty side as he grappled with Daniel Craig in the most recent Bond movie, released in 2015, but despite being thrown from a train by Daniel Craig’s super-spy, Bautista is seriously hoping that there’s a future for the character.

‘Yeah! Believe me we’re talking about it a lot. We’re waiting at home with our fingers crossed’, he exclusively told Metro.co.uk at the Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 European premiere.

However, he thinks that a return is hinging on one thing – the widely speculated future of Daniel Craig as 007.

He said: ‘We’re waiting for the news to see if Daniel will sign up for Bond 25, because then there’s a chance that Hinx will come back.’

As for now though, he’s firmly in the dark over Craig’s future with the iconic spy franchise.

‘I’m reading the rumours just like everyone else’, he admitted.

I liked the first two Christopher Reeve Superman films much better than any of the recent DC movies, and a large part of that is because of Reeve himself ... like Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman from around the same time, he delivers humour and charm, and makes the films likable even if you still don't believe a man can fly

others have noted correctly the two new Superman films had many problems beyond the actor, but I found Cavill himself added nothing to the films beyond being suitably buff ... more like all the supporting characters kept talking about this alien in their midst, but the actor whose job it was to portray that alien was not up to the challenge, leaving a big hole in the middle of an already unlikable film
that may have been the filmmakers fault though (Zak Snyder was it not?), I had no idea Cavill was also in Man from UNCLE and shall have to watch that to compare ... obviously thatd be a much more relevant film to James Bond ... did he play Napoleon Solo?

as for the comic book films, I think its the new Marvel Comics films that best continue the style (charm, humour, optimisim) of 1970s Superman and Wonder Woman ... the DC films are massive downers in comparison, I'm sure they give children nightmares

I liked MFU and thought Cavill was good in it. It was like a Moore-era Bond film, except more entertaining. If EON/MGM decide to go back to comedy Bond, Cavill would probably be okay as Bond.

‘Bond 25’: Why The Next Director Could Be Indie
    indiewire.com/2017/05/james-bond-25-directors-eon-indie-paul-mcguigan-1201810462/

Word is, the producers are so pleased with”Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool,” directed by Scotsman Paul McGuigan (“Sherlock,” “Lucky Number Slevin,” “Victor Frankenstein”), that he too is under consideration. Annette Bening stars as actress Gloria Grahame, who falls in love with a young actor (Jamie Bell).

If true, his last movie must have impressed the Bond producers a lot. His previous work looks competent, even good, but never excellent. His previous movies are ranked in the 30's except Lucky Number Slevin at 53%. None of them are really big productions. He looks like a good director of high-end TV drama who has made a few OK movies.
  • HowardBHowardB USAPosts: 2,736MI6 Agent
Lucky Number Slevin IMO was a really good offbeat crime film with some great dark humor, a twisty clever plot (with a McGuffin) and excellent performances from an impressive cast that included Bruce Willis, Ben Kingsley, Morgan Freeman and Josh Hartnett. I could see McGuigan doing Bond 25 especially if he has caught EON's fancy on their latest production. I would also guess that it wouldn't be a stretch to believe that EON has shown a cut of "Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool" to Daniel Craig along with McGuigan's other work.

  • HowardBHowardB USAPosts: 2,736MI6 Agent
That is good news. It seems the bits and pieces of news/information that we are getting now seem to make a bit more sense and are starting to come from more credible sources. If the latest info is true, we are moving along with a script, there definitely are multiple suitors for a distribution deal and we may have a director. The biggest question remains, who will be Bond? The latest rumblings seem to point to a Craig return but who knows? But things do appear to be heating up.

Glad to hear that a writer's strike has been averted, pending ratification. Now we need a studio deal and an announcement on DC or no DC..
