Re: WHICH BOND NOVEL ARE YOU READING AT THE MOMENT

I'm re-reading YOLT at the moment, after previously re-reading CR, OHMSS and DN (in that order, I wanted to mix it up a bit).
I'm currently at Dikko On The Ginza, and tried to get my twin brother to read it as well, but to no avail.
He's more of a movie tie-in novel reader. I tried that with Raymond Benson's Die Another Day, that's enough for me.

I just finished reading the entire series and I think my favorite one out of the bunch  GOLDFINGER.

Half way through it now. Really suprised at how true the film stayed to the novel during the round of golf. So far (i'm reading them in order) Moonraker remains my favourite.

Re: WHICH BOND NOVEL ARE YOU READING AT THE MOMENT

Lately I've been picking at the continuation novels, in no particular order. Today I have just started reading For Special Services - I found a 1st edition copy in a charity shop a couple of weeks ago. Before that, I read Colonel Sun, which I would have to rank as the best continuation novel I have read so far. I think I have read about 10, mostly Gardner. I find the Benson books very hard to find here in South Africa. Fleming can be found without too much difficulty, Gardner's are found occasionally, but I have yet to see a Benson novel in any 2nd hand bookshops.

Chronologically speaking, GF's next in line. You could do far worse then GF, the canasta cheating, golf game, and torture sequence are addictive and enjoyable. The novel bangs forward with some very enjoyable introspection as well ... ajb007/smile

I'll see if my college library stocks it. I sort of stumbled across the Ian Fleming books and did a little dance.

Reading Benson's Never Dream of Dying at the mo -quite enjoying it although obviously not a patch on Fleming or Gardner.

I have to admit -there are parts of NDOD that come accross very childish -It is certainly one of the weakest Bond novels on the market. I have read it before but absolutely ages ago. I'd forgotten a lot of it -and I'm beginning to see why!  I'd like to think some of my own writing is better than some of this novel. I'd give it a 4/10 and that's a generous score -simply because it is a Bond novel. but sadly a poor one.

Colonel Sun. I'm really enjoying it at the moment. I love how the story gets going really quickly.

Finished the book now. I must say, I have enjoyed reading it but the last 25 pages are very bad. The end ruined the entire story!

Re: WHICH BOND NOVEL ARE YOU READING AT THE MOMENT

I'm reading Colonel Sun at the moment. And Roger Moore's autobiography.

42

Re: WHICH BOND NOVEL ARE YOU READING AT THE MOMENT

I finished You Only Live Twice not long ago, thus adding to OHMSS, FRWL and Thunderball for my Fleming exploits. I'll go for Dr. No or Casino Royale next.

Don't know what kept me from these wonderful works all those years of being a Bond fan. Ah yes, thanks be to Penguin for reissuing these buggers. I had a rough time finding them before.

45

Re: WHICH BOND NOVEL ARE YOU READING AT THE MOMENT

Just finished Roger Moore's memoirs, it is pretty funny. A nice read. Almost finished Colonel Sun, really like it so far.

Re: WHICH BOND NOVEL ARE YOU READING AT THE MOMENT

Read some of My word is mt bond and roger is so so funny ajb007/smile)but it brought tears to my eyes when he said about his mum dying. :'(

Re: WHICH BOND NOVEL ARE YOU READING AT THE MOMENT

Just finished Licence Renewed by John Gardner. I think it was okay, not nearly as good as Colonel Sun or (most of) the Flemming ones. Starting For Special Services tomorrow. Saw that it starts at Maastricht Airport.

Re: WHICH BOND NOVEL ARE YOU READING AT THE MOMENT

Started Icebreaker yesterday. I liked FSS quite a bit.

Re: WHICH BOND NOVEL ARE YOU READING AT THE MOMENT

Always liked Icebreaker, I felt it was Gardner's best effort, although Licence Renewed waS good. IMO Gardner's novels go downhill from Icebreaker
