Well, ABC has announced when the final season of Lost will start. Lost will start on Feb 2nd. (Yes, that's a Tuesday) at 9pm. A recap show will air at 8pm before the season premiere. You can read the rest here:

Looking forward to getting Lost again myself as I'm very curious to see how it all ends.

Oh, man, I've missed the massive mind-fornicating that is Lost. I wasn't sure where this final season would go, but it looks like we've been split into two directions: an alternate past, showing what happened when the Oceanic flight didn't crash; and a new present, after Jacob bit the dust. Both plotlines are intriguing, and we were treated to the fun of seeing dead characters again alive and kicking (and a couple of live characters joining the dead) and the biggest revelation of them all: the identity of the smoke monster! And it also looks like we'll be filled in on Richard's past. Oh, this season looks like it'll be fun!

Very interesting. As I type this, Damon Lindelof & Carlton Cuse or on a late night talk show. More on that at the end of my post.

I find it very interesting that we have two time lines going on.

I have to pause the DVR Carlton and Damon are speaking of something very interesting.

First, the plane lands in LA and it seems that Jack knows and remembers people on board. Maybe it's just me, or maybe it's what they want me to believe. Jack knows Rose and Bernard. Jack knows Desmond (yes, I know they met on a track in LA years before. But this seems different). Jack seems to know Locke to. I don't know, this duel time line thing is weird.

Ok, now to Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof on Jimmy Kimmel. Jimmy watched the first episode and noticed a few things. Jimmy is asking Damon and Carlton about what he noticed. Jimmy wants to know if certain things that happened on the show were a coincidence or not. Here's a rough translation:

Jimmy: As soon as we see Charlie on the plane, Desmond disappears. Coincidence or not?

C & D (carlton and damon

) : Coincidence.

Jimmy: Michael & Walt are not on the plane.

C &

Fate

Jimmy: Shannon was not on the plane.

NOT a coincidence. ( C (or is it D) questions if that means it's significant)

Jimmy: The season premiere happens on Groundhogs day. Yet, and in Lost, the same thing is happening over again, but differently.

Absolutely planned.( they then say coincidence).

Jimmy: The space between LA and X in the title.

Very planned.

Jimmy: The meal on the flight, lasagna.

Spent on the month, working on the meal. (I think it is a joke)

Jimmy: On this flight Rose is calm, and Jack is the nervous flier. In the first show it was opposite.Coincidence or not?

Not a coincidence. Completely intentional.

Jimmy: Jack spills his vodka while pouring a drink.

Not a coincidence. He also has one less bottle of vodka, which is also not a coincidence.

Jimmy: Hurley picks up a book by Keir Ka Gard. Coinceidence or not.

Intentional. A long explanation is given. In short, the books featured in the show are tied into the show in some way.

Jimmy: Are we done with the numbers?

C &

Your going to get a good dose of numbers in the next few weeks.

Jimmy: Is John Locke possessed by the man in black?

C&D: He's not. (C & D let a secret slip about that nights show to the audience who hasn't seen it. The audience moans)

Carlton and Damon announced the end date for the show. The last show will be on May 23rd, which is a Sunday night.

That was a very entertaining and interesting season premiere which, in the tradition of the show, throws out lots of new questions even as it answers some old ones.

The revelation of who the smoke monster is wasn't particularly surprising to me as I'd suspected as much for most of last season. Having it confirmed does however raise some interesting questions:

namely, was the smoke monster messing with Jack, Ben, Eco and others by appearing to them as departed loved ones to further its agenda? Seems very likely to me now.

Whereas we previously had flashbacks and flashforwards and storytelling devices, we now have...flash-sideways? Looks like setting off the bomb has created a parallel reality and it'll be interesting to see how or even if the two realities will merge as the season wears on.

Also found it interesting that the same people responsible for Lost were also responsible for last summer's Star Trek movie which also dealt with time travel and parallel realities. This also leads me to think that the show will end like this:

Just as the smoke monster is about to kill our heroes...the USS Enterprise comes out of warp and fires a full spread of photon torpedoes destroying it once and for all.

You read it here first. That's gotta be how it ends...or maybe not.

What's more, J. J. Abrams' other TV series, Fringe, occasionally deals with a parallel earth--the other one has Leonard Nimoy on it--that is in danger of crashing into ours. So, who knows, maybe our Lost heroes will end up rescued by the FBI's "Fringe" division?

Now last night's Lost (episode 6x04, The Substitute) was a good episode. Stuff is finally starting to get explained and we're a lot closer to figuring out why these folks are on the island and what those damned numbers mean.

It was disturbingly amusing to see Richard Alpert so freaked out and clearly scared out of his mind. Ben likewise seemed pretty impotent and, for once, clueless and without a plan (though he still had enough presence of mind to lie about who killed Jacob). Guess these guys really weren't as in the know as they thought they were. Sawyer seems pretty willing to go to the dark side, which is why I very much doubt he will (the producers rarely have these things play out the way you expect them to).

The flash-sideways stuff was pretty interesting as well, with the characters continuing to meet and intersect in all sorts of odd ways. It will be interesting to see how (or if) these alternate lives will impact what is happening on the island.

Of particular interest to me however was the fact that

Kate's name wasn't written on the rock wall even though Jacob touched her when she was a child. Even more damning, if you look at the promotional Lost Supper image (a play on the Last Supper), which the producers say does have significance to the story's resolution, Kate occupies the place held by Judas. Very ominous if you ask me.

^I'm still loving the interaction amongst the charectors in the X time line. Locke worked in the company that Hurley owns. Rose also is a employee of Hurley. Kind of interesting side note (probably not related), in last weeks episode Miles stated that Hurley had taken a leadership role, in this weeks flash sideways it could be said Hurley is in a role of leadership.

Just saw a 20 second clip of next weeks episode and read a very brief article about it. One sentence that stood out to me was:

Claire is the new Rousseau and has taken search for her lost son

I wonder if this means that next weeks episode and flash sideways will feature

I'm really enjoying this season as well, even if though I am completely baffled. The only thing I'm sure about is Richard was on the boat seen at the beginning of the season five finale. I think.

Another thing I like about this show is reading other peoples perspectives of it. Some of the things I've read about Lost on another message board. These posts are from the last week and a half:

I wonder what name their going to give Claires friend? I bet he has a sweet Biblical name like Ezekial.

Great episode last night. Ironic how it was the 108th episode, 23rd yesterday, and Jack just happens to be candidate#23.

I think somehow this alternate universe is a product of some actions that we have yet to see on the island, Jacks appendix scar and his lack of memory about when it was done was a setup to that...

Lots of alice in wonderland references last night, but god damn you jack for going psycho on the magic mirrors with a looking glass. But I guess if I learned that maybe my whole life I never made a decision for myself and was being spied on and manipulated by some weirdo I would flip out too.

Whose coming to the island, my guess is Widmore, who got kicked off by Ben, who never saw jacob or was told to do so by him. But it could be Desmond, or even Aaron somehow...

I can't get enough of Terry O'Quinn. Watching the enhanced version of the Lockecentric episode it was interesting to see him shift between the confident, Flocke and the meek unemployed John X.

Jesus the last time I saw an Axe to the chest like that was the Shining (about a man who is driven insane by ghosts)

Like I said before, I like the way this final season is shaping up. The more I think of it, the more I believe that these "flash-sideways" sequences aren't an alternate past that would have occurred had there never been a plane crash, but an out-and-out parallel universe in which the familiar characters have entirely different backgrounds. (How else to explain Jack having a teenage son and the brief sojourn of Ben and his father at the Dharma Project?) How this will be explained I don't know; but here's hoping the rest of the season will reveal it all.

That said, it looks like they're get closer to explaining what brought everyone to the island in "our" universe--the fact so many are "candidates" to replace Jacob in the cosmic battle to maintain balance between he and the Smoke Monster. The presence of Chaim Potok's The Chosen at the campsite suggests survival of a few amid chaos and horror.

On to next week's mind-warping. . .

No. we never see him on the ship, but he implies he was on it. Think he says something like, "all this time and I've never come back." I assume this means he got to the island onboard.

Anyway, this season is just getting better and better. I was really drawn in by the story of Parallel Sawyer as a hard-working detective--partnered with Miles, of all people! And the dead continue to rise in this universe, with Charlotte showing up as a one-night stand. My theory about this all being a parallel reality is confirmed by Sawyer saying that he knew he'd end up a cop or a con man, and he chose cop. Of course, if I turn out to be wrong, I'll be the first to admit it.

Say, am I the only one to notice the actor who plays Charles Widmore looks like an older, balder Daniel Craig? They could do a movie one day, playing older and younger versions of the same character. A man can dream. . .

Not sure about that HB, but I was thinking that maybe the actor could be a great Bond villain.

As for the next episode, it's title is Ab Aeterno. I had to look up what that meant. In short: "from the everlasting" or "from eternity" Should be very interesting.

Now, with this weeks show. I found it very interesting that Sawy......James Ford is a Cop. I'm wondering something though. Wayback in the first (maybe second) season, we see Sawyer in handcuffs being escorted through a police station in Australia (I think it was Australia) as he passes Boone. I'd like to know how that matches up with the X time line? If the X time line picks up as if they never crashed on the island, that means Sawyer was lying the whole time about being a Con Man and was always a cop. But, if he is a cop why was he arrested in Australia? I'm confused

So far, the X time line has made sense for every one involved, except for Sawyer or James Ford. Does this make sense?

Jack, a doctor. Was a doctor in the regular time line and the X time line.
Kate, a felon from the law. Both time lines.
Hurley, rich when he crashed on the island. Also rich in the X time line.
Rose, had cancer before she crashed on the island. Has cancer in the X time line.
Saywer, a con man in the regular time line. A cop in the X time line.

Can someone explain this to me (if possible)?

Actually Mr. M, I think the sideways timeline diverges from the "real" timeline much further back than the Oceanic 815 flight. If we are to assume that Juliet detonated the bomb back in 1977 then that is the most likely point at which the two timelines begin to diverge. Therefore, it is entirely possible that Sawyer is a conman in one timeline and a cop in the other. This would also explain why Jack has a son in the sideways world but not the "real" one and why Ben is a decent man who actually has a good relationship with his father in the "sideways" world as well.

There is a major change with Hurley in the "X timeline," as you call it, Mr. M--he has nothing but GOOD luck, whereas in our timeline his luck is always bad. And it's interesting that in both timelines, Sawyer/Ford is reading Watership Down. Go figure. . .
