Magnoli Clothiers

Has any used Magnoli Clothiers? If so how difficult was it and are you happy with you product? I am in the US, specifically Ohio and I am looking to purchase several products, but I want to make sure they are legit first.

Thanks

I have quite a few items of clothing, and very happy.

Do a search on Magnoli in this section and you will find quite a few threads (pardon the pun) on their threads. :))

He is one of the best tailors on the planet. I live in the USA and I am proud to say that I have a professional tailor in New Zealand. Sounds international and somewhat Bond, doesn't it. :))

It's the best you can get for the price, but it's nothing near the best tailor on the planet. And by the way, he does not make the clothes himself. His products are very very good, there are some great examples here, but no, having clothes sent by mail and made in China does not sounds Bond to me. It sounds like a Bond copy.

Having a local tailor that will propose things and respect you sounds Bondish.

Even though Magnoli is the best Bond-copy you can get for the price, it's not one of the best tailor on the planet. Maybe you should travel a little more, to Napoli or Milan perhaps.

I invite you to disregard toutbrun's post entirely. Magnoli is great... provides great clothes that fit well and that are made according to the specifications that you will give him. I own many very expensive suits and custom made shirts and will send anyone to Magnoli in a second. He is that good and his prices are right. Truly a blessing for Bond fans and he respects our desires for great quality Bond inspired clothes that are as close looking as humanly possible to the originals that are, more often than not, no longer available at any price. He will even cater to your special requests for items not in his catalog. So, I invite Mr. toutbrun to stick with Tom Ford and Brioni and let us enjoy Indy's great work made with love and an attention to detail that is quite uncommon but so bondian. By the way, Napoli is no fashion central by any means...

I understand what toutbrun is saying, but the tradeoff sometimes is between trying to get as close as you can to what you see on screen vs. shopping in the manner Bond would. For example, you could either go to Magnoli and get the CR leather jacket, which is extremely faithful to the original (and now unavailable) Armani seen on screen, or you could "do the Bondish thing" and buy a leather jacket at Giorgio Armani from whatever is in their latest available range. Depends what you're after.

Sometimes it's also practicality. I dare any of you to walk into Turnbull & Asser and ask for a dress shirt made with the turnback button cuffs, but not in their current style but the way it looked in the 60's when they made them for Sean Connery in the early Bond films (the cuffs flared a bit instead of being square). Hard to get taken seriously sometimes when you have very specific requests. :p

I have had a mixed experience with Magnoli. I ordered the Casino Royale leather jacket and the Royale Bahama shirt around a year ago. I remember receiving both items separately. While I don't remember where I received the jacket from I was surprised to find the shirt came from the Far East. And the quality showed. I've ordered made-to-measure clothes from a couple sources before and I've never received an item that was as off as this shirt was. I took the shirt to my tailor, who was not at all impressed with the quality of the shirt. He told me it was beyond repair and that I should send it back. To Magnoli's credit, I was allowed to send the shirt back along with a well-fitting shirt that I wanted copied. The corrections were made and the shirts were returned to me within a reasonable time, but the shirt is still far from perfect, and to me, definitely not worth the $100 price tag.

On the other hand, the jacket (which is my single favorite piece of clothing) is a brilliant piece of work. For $385, this thing was a steal. The leather is buttery soft, it fits like a glove, and it is a faithful reproduction of the Armani piece. I get compliments every time I wear it. Frankly, no one should wear leather jackets that don't fit perfectly, and Magnoli's exceeds expectations. I'll never buy a leather jacket off the rack again.

Despite my experience with Magnoli's shirts, I cannot advise against them. After all, where else are you going to find a faithful reproduction or suitable alternative to, say, the Madagascar shirt? So if you're willing to pay the price for something that you cannot get anywhere else, go for it, but be advised that you may not be getting the very best quality. As for Magnoli's jackets, get your credit card out... Now.

Is Magnoli one of the best tailors on the planet? No, not by a longshot, but he does offer some great reproductions you cannot find anywhere else, the customer service is good, and there are some real quality gems in his collection.

If memory recalls, he sources different makers for the jackets vs. shirts. That's probably why the two items arrived in separate packages. I think Indy was originally in the business of jackets, and I've heard absolutely nothing but good things in regard to his repros in that area.

The Royale jacket is by far my favorite too, and I get compliments all the time on it. :)

So far, I have only bought ties from Magnoli and have not been as impressed as I had hoped. The patterns and fabric are fine, but the ties feel cheaply made. I know they are a compromise and the original item (eg T&A, TF) will be significantly more expensive, assuming you can find one. But I own many ties in the same price point Magnoli is selling in, and the Magnoli ties do not sit as well when tied as my others and do not seem as well executed as I would like. Also, they are equal in length to the shortest tie I own, really not long enough for me to tie a full Windsor knot and have them sit where I want. The ties remind me of a cheap tie I bought in Thailand when I was young and naive.

Having said that, I do plan on ordering a suit soon, because the photos I have seen show a pretty good product for the money. And presumably suits are sourced from a completely different supplier.

I've ordered quite a few ties from him, both Bond & non-Bond stuff, & have had good experiences all the way around from the quality of the product to the shipping times.

My experience has been mixed. Quality seems fine, but check the measurements! The CR jacket I ordered was longer in the sleeves and body that I had measured for, but presumed it was my mistake. After receiving the QOS jacket, I checked the measurements and found that it had not been made to the sizes I had supplied. They were not massively out, but the length in particular was 1.5" too long and changed the whole look of the garment. Of course Magnoli sorted out the problem and sent me another one, but it meant another month or so wait.As mentioned, some of these are made in the far east and they generally come direct, so no chance for him to check measurements and quality. Worth checking those measurements when you receive the garment

I've only gotten the QoS cardigan from them, and it fits perfectly and is well made.

I have always had excellent experiences with Magnoli Clothiers. I own several of their suits, as well as a few other items and ties.

The suits are a perfect fit and extremely comfortable.

The trick is to get the measurements that you send them right... ;)

As an avid frequenter of Magnoli I have to put in my 0.02. I've purchased several suits, shirts, coats, ties, and a few other assortment of items and in the end I've always been very happy. Obtaining the correct measurements is important with his ordering process and a consult with your local tailor is highly recommended.
I have to say Indy has had, and continues to have fantastic customer service and always gets back to you quickly. He has tremendous patience when discussing details and has always been very accommodating in all of my correspondences. As long as Magnoli keeps his doors open I will be frequenting his business for all of my film/retro inspired looks. He understands his craft and his clientele well.
Lastly as someone already mentioned....if you buy a leather jacket from him, you're in trouble because you won't want to wear anything else. And once you realize that there is basically no limit to the designs of the coats, well have your credit card ready and be prepared.

    Anybody tried his shoes??
    Instagram - bondclothes007
  • maxximusmaxximus The U.S.Posts: 173MI6 Agent
Yes, I tried his Royale boots, however given the nature of the design of the shoe and width of my foot it never fit correctly. I contacted Indy regarding this problem and he provided some alternatives to remedy the situation, none of which I felt truly worthwhile. In the end I sold them for a variety of reasons. However, I will say that had the shoe design been more cooperative with my foot there would have been NO problems whatsoever with the footwear. The leather he used for the boots was more robust than a lot of shoe leathers currently being used, and would have aged nicely.
With that being said the next pair of shoes I have him make will be custom ones of my design, (with my wide foot in mind). Bottom line: Quality is there, just make sure your surgical on your measurements and understand exactly what kind of shoe your getting yourself into, so to speak. That is to say don't think your going to get John Lobbs out of the deal, but know that you aren't getting junk either.

    Maxximus.

Thanks for info, unfortunatley I also have very wide feet (US 13).

The Luffield design which I presume is what the Royale shoe is based off looks painful for me to look at!!! I normally wear Prada shoes with a square design at toe end.

Funny you mention that as I wear a 13 as well. If you're wanting a Bond shoe your best bet is a pair of cap toe oxfords. I have a pair of Chuch's Oxfords that match closely to what he wore in the film and it doesn't have a pointy toe box. ( The nice thing about this design is that a variety of manufactures produce it as its a staple to any business wardrobe.) If you stick with some of Bonds classic footwear you will notice that its classically styled/designed which is not indicative of a narrow toe box. Just some food for thought anyway.
