My 1967 Casino Royale 1 Sheet

This is the next in the series of my original release Bond U.S. one sheets. Casino Royale came out in April 1967 and YOLT came out in the summer of 1967. So CR '67 is next up. I also have re-release Bond posters but it was always my intention to depict the original releases in my collection first. The re-relase posters are o.k., but are for the most part un-inspired re-hashes of original artwork in two or three colors. However for the completist...

Anyway, as most of you know CR '67 was a spoof. Charles K. Feldman attempted to make a serious Bond flick by co-producing with Broccoli and Saltzman but it was shot down. Lacking Connery, the decision was made to make a Bond spoof. Although the movie is a sometimes hard to follow mish-mash, it's fun to watch if your in the right mood and I like certain elements like David Niven as Bond with his Bentley, Orson Welles doing magic as LeChifre and of course Evlyn Tremble's Rolex 1675 GMT Master. It's the spy spoof to end all spy spoofs and very "psychadelic" as they say. Although from a different production company when originally released, it is my understanding that EON now owns the rights to CR '67 as well as NSNA.

Anyway, on to the poster. Artwork by Robert McGinnis, the noted expert for painting women. Enjoy.

That's a really pretty image. I don't know what the producers have against putting something like that on a Bond teaser poster. I wanted some drawn/painted artwork for the new Casino Royale. I was hoping they would get McGinnis to do one since he's still doing book covers and had those Hollywood Edition Bond lithographs a while back. I'm still hoping for a good Daniel Craig Bond poster. I can't bring myself to get any of the current ones yet.

Yes, I have a couple of the McGinnis holywood editions. I have the famous one where Bond is holding the LP53 while Ms. Fearing is rubbing his back. It's excellent and I had wanted that artwork for years before it became officially available. I also have the one where Bond/Connery is smoking with the PPK on the table. They came with a free sketch of Bond with the women. I still have to get the two other versions, Bond in wetsuit and Bond with women. But my favorite is the one with nude Bond/Connery being rubbed by Fearing. It was produced for the original Thunderball campaign and an iteration of it appears in the Italian poster campaign. It's fantastic!

Edit: Yes, you're quite right. I would love to see Bond poster campaigns get back to painted artwork instead of photoraphic images. I do have the Daniel Craig posters. The best one for my money so far is the CR teaser. Even though photographic, it's very cool.

Thank you. As for the movie, well I thought it was appropriate for Halloween weekend. An alternate Bond sort of like Bizarro Superman.

Edit: Also, don't forget the music by Burt Bacarach.
