Re: New Bond novel

This is more suited for the Literary forum, so I'm moving it.  The subject itself is also being covered in the "Project X" topic, but if people keep the discussion on the title--Carte Blanche (yawn)--there's no reason this can't stay open.

Re: New Bond novel

Carte Blanche doesn't strike me as a fantastic title, but I'll wait until I've read the novel before judging it. The info in the article suggests that it might be interesting in terms of the theme of "what is acceptable in security matters ... giving an agent carte blanche on a mission comes with an enormous amount of trust and constantly tests both personal and professional judgement." I look forward to the new novel - I hope it proves better than the last official effort. ajb007/smile

I think it's a pretty Bland Title.

Re: New Bond novel

I fancy the title actually. Very elegant and sleek.

Re: New Bond novel

I'm ambivalent about the title---it's no Risico ( ajb007/tongue )---but excited about the new book, and the rebooting of the literary character into modern times.

Re: New Bond novel

I still think it's a Bland Title, But can see it's a re-working of a  "licence to kill"  as Bond has  " Carte Blanche "  To do whatever is required, Look forward to reading it

The title brings to mind the credit card that no one really uses anymore.

Re: New Bond novel

I think Carte Blanche is a reasonably good title. But I think the title and the cover doesn't spell suspence novel or Bond novel. I hope that won't hurt the sales. Perhaps it's a good thing that "Jeffery Deaver" is in larger letters than "James Bond"?

Hey gang. It's been a while. I've revamped my Bond lit site and I'm on top of all the latest Carte Blanche whatnot. Today I landed and very nice exclusive. The U.S. cover art. Enjoy.

Re: New Bond novel

Thanks for posting the link.  I like the UK cover better. ajb007/frown   I guess they wanted to make it easy to spot in the book store.

Re: New Bond novel

Devil May Care was a great title, but less than spectacular book, so maybe it means the law of averages is at work here!

The look of the book is not too outstanding either IMO. I'm afraid it will be mistaken as one of those run-of-the-mill suspense novel that hits the stands every five minutes after the hour. Don't get me wrong - I still intend to read it at some point.

Re: New Bond novel

Hope this doesn't predict the quality of the novel.  Seems like the title would go better with Devil May Care, with the same amount of thought and imagination respectively given

The UK cover was perhaps too subtle, the US cover is way too unsubtle. Damed if you do, damed if you don't...

Okay, if it gets filmed, which actress should play Blanche?

It would have to be a platinum blonde...

Re: New Bond novel

Greetings everyone

Does anybody know whether there are likely to be any "special" editions of Carte Blanche when it is released in May? Something along the lines of the "red box" version of Devil May Care, perhaps?

I asked at my local bookshop a couple of weeks ago. They didn't know for sure, but suspected that a version - possibly signed by a JB actor - might appear for about £1,000. They also seemed to think that something like that was more likely to end up with one of the "chain" bookshops, such as Waterstones, rather than a local independent book seller.

Waterstones were unable to tell me anything at all about any likely special editions of this book when I called in this afternoon, so I just wondered whether anyone on here, who might have access to such information, might know?

Thanks in advance

Steve

Really? Was this a legit rumor that they had heard, or where they just thinking out loud? Would love to know more about this. Thanks.

I see Hatchards are taking pre-orders for a limited edition slipcase and signed hardback edition of Carte Blanche - cost is £100 mind - then postage is on top !!

Re: New Bond novel

I've pre-ordered a copy of the Hatchard's edition. That's going to have to do it for me. No way am I going to be able to afford this £1000 edition (which I'm starting to hear might be for real).
