    heaps of good british movies. Death on the nile. ahh-Bond movies! britsh tv shows are great too. And i dont even live in Britain. Foyles war, midsomer Murders, downton abbey, etc

    At the moment it's probably Get Carter...but I'd be happy with some of the Carry On... movies too.

    I agree. Never got what all the fuss was with that movie.

    And Sir Miles ... 'Carry On ' ???? Really ??? ... I quite like 'Carry on Screaming' but thats it.

    If I was going for a British film it would probably be a 'Hammer' movie of some sort, poss 'Dracula'

    Top Carry Ons for me are: Carry On Camping, Follow That Camel, Doctor, maybe Cleo, which highbrows like.

    Anyone here familiar with Fawlty Towers (Brit tv series)? I watched a few episodes, but it seems like it's a very famous TV show, and yet there is only 12 episodes!?!

    It's a legendary British sitcom, famous over here and of course John Cleese is in it. Americans know it through the Monty Python connection. I'm not sure Cleese was able to think up any more situations, hence only 12, he quite while ahead.

    A new Hammer movie with Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is out shortly, getting good reviews. Good to see the Hammer name back in front.

    The character of Basil Fawlty was based on a hotel owner that John Cleese met when he was staying in a hotel with his fellow Pythons. The episodes were written by Cleese and his then wife Connie Booth. Fawlty Towers is rightly regarded as one of the great (if not the greatest) tv comedy series of all. The characters were so hilarious and so true to life with some exaggeration thrown in for comic effect. Who could ever forget Manuel "Que?"

    Back on topic. Since the 100th anniversary is only a couple of months away I will put in a nomination for A Night To Remember. For me, easily the best film about the sinking of the Titanic. Another of my favourite British films is The Day The Earth Caught Fire. The story involves the devastating effects of nuclear testing gone wrong seen from the perspective of a national newspaper and in particular one of it's reporters.

    Well the Minder series in general is excellent but the film really pulled out all the stops.

    A provocative post... but it raises questions. Such as, have there been any Brit sci-fi films? I mean, where they mostly have British accents? Often you'll have English names to lend credibility ie John Hurt or Charles Dance, but that's all. Guess it's all US frontier culture.
