What Bond film (if any) do you *HATE* and why?

chrisisallchrisisall Western Mass, USAPosts: 9,061MI6 Agent
We can all be very passionate at times with the films we grew up watching, but it takes a lot for me to 'hate' a movie. Mostly, if a film isn't very good, or if it irks me on some artistic level, I'll say I don't like it, or at worst refer to it as garbage.
But there IS one Bond movie I hate.
No, it's not the misfire known as Die Another Day (and Lord knows I dislike that flick immensely), it's Licence To Kill.
That movie is right up there with Highlander 2 & Steel Magnolias. I hate it.
It's just another mean 80's Die Hard-like in-your-face fest. They even had Michael Kamen (Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Last Boyscout) doing the score. We get to see a woman beaten over & over to tears, a man get his leg chewed off by a shark, a dude's head pop in a pressure chamber, etc...
There was a plot of sorts, but between Dalton's growing scowl & big rigs doing wheelies, I find it hard to recall.
But I can't forget the villain's end- set on fire & blown up... and then blown up more. :s
Oh, and after all the grim we get Felix happy on the phone as if nothing at all has happened (or as Calvin Dyson put it, "Well he sounds all jovial, someone want to ring him up & remind him his wife was just brutally murdered?").
Wait- that wasn't offensive enough, let's see a stone fish wink at us too. X-(
So, DAD was nonsense, but LTK was fresh skunk roadkill. IMO, of course.

*Takes a breath*

Okay, what film in the series, if any, can YOU get all worked up over? :))
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

Going around the Barbican exhibition, it did seem that those two, LTK and DAD, represent the nadir, one a complete abscense of style and commercialism, the other all tacky blockbuster commercialism. Neither really fit in with the exhibition whenever represented.

    Moonraker.

Why? Well its not the whole film, rather from where bond goes into space. The film itself starts off great IMO, drax as a villian is i think, one of the best, I just love the way he meets bond for the first time. The carnival scenes, the global travelling around, yes i even liked the bondola. quality scenes would be "balls, Q?", "see that some harm comes to him" and the glass factory fight. I also think the theme tune is good.

Equally though, there's several bits which just make me cringe. The 'encounters' theme tune on the security keypad, the look of love bit with dolly, the total daftness of flicking gravity on and off like a light bulb, and them bloody pew pew laser guns. oh and the rubber snake fight (what was it with RM and stuffed animals?).

So if any of the film annoyed me, and I really can't say I hate it, i'd have to say Moonraker.

    I completely agree with this.

But I also agree with chrisisall, who thought MR was the stupidest film until DAD came out.

I saw DAD on TV recently, and I actually enjoyed it more than I remember. However, I still rank it at the bottom of all the bond films, due to a few big flaws, such as horrible CGI, invisible car, unnecessary matrix-like slow-motion bits, Jinx, and poor acting from Gustav Graves' actor

I can't knock DAD that much, I worked on it :))

However, I honestly believe the poor quality was down to a crap script and an awful director. brosnan did his best with a cack he was given. can't polish a turd as they say.

the hommages were nice but should have been more subtle and more iconic. the hommages should also have been seen objects only, not waved in front of the camera, but hidden in the background. lines like "well diamonds are for ever...yone" were just a 'oh come on!?' moment for me. the sets, props and miniatures used though were brilliant, as were costumes, and the PTS was, for me anyways, a cracker. i really think Babs and Mike are regretting hiring tamahori.

I always thought DAD had potential... just blemished I guess by the issues I mentioned. It is memorable though, with lots of character - I'll give it that!

Back on topic: there are absolutely NO Bond films I HATE. Not one. There are plenty that are not among my favorites--DAF, LALD, AVTAK, a couple of others--but even in the worst films I can find one or two things I like and appreciate. Really, it's not worth the emotional energy to hate any movie--unless it's something promoting hateful thinking or which tries to make something disgusting appealing. Example: Kick-Ass, which has fun with child abuse. Leoffelholz may disagree with me, but I hated THAT!

That is among my favourites! Being an emotionally lacking sequel to OHMSS aside, it's a rousing adventure in its own right!
And I absolutely LOVE Connery's dialed-in performance; it's so world weary and dismissive of the idea of defeat. A perfect Bond IMO. Like, if death comes, I'll fight as hard as I can, but in the end... whatever.

Actually I goofed--my all-time least-favorite film is The Man with the Golden Gun--and, while not a favorite, DAF ranks as a guilty pleasure. I must have been tired, distracted, or suffering another senior moment when I wrote that. But my point still stands: I don't hate any Bond film. So one of my least-favorites happens to be one of your favorites. And. . .? It's all good.

Like Hardyboy, there is no Bond film I hate. The one I least enjoy is DAD but there are too many redeeming in it for me to hate it.

Die Another Day shares the same problem as Moonraker in that it has a great opening and build up followed by a ridiculous ending. Overall, I think Moonraker is the much stronger film and is leagues above DAD in terms of quality.

Up until the ice palace I think DAD ranks up there with the best of the Bond films, it then descends into something of a farce very quickly. It also has the least menacing and least charismatic villain, which makes him the weakest in the series.

I think Die Another Day was the worst Bond film ever made, although Moonraker isn't far behind in that regard. I can't say I hate those films as such, but there are certainly other films I'd rather be watching.

I cant really say I hate any but I could live without Moonraker, Octopussy, & AVTAK. I hate the red neck sheriff in LALD & TMWTGG. Why couldn't they just play the hillbillie cop thing subtle like in DAF.

I have no hatred of any of the films. There are certain scenes/sequences from the likes of OHMSS, DAF, MR, TND and DAD that I normally choose to avoid because I find them either cringeworthy, or the acting or dialogue (or both) is poor. The nearest thing to hatred comes in Quantum of Solace when Bond throws the body of Mathis in a skip, unnecessary and tasteless, as is the rape scene.

The DC movies are THE ONLY Bond movies I have only seen one time each. CR was well done, but I just ain't a fan. I remember not liking QoS very much at all.
Bond girls not memorable, action very shakey cam CGI, gun barrel screwed up... unless they make some radical changes, Bond is over for me. Which is why, I suppose, I've been digging backwards.

I'm afraid that NSNA would be one I hate, in that I can really see little to redeem it. Even those who like it, seem to do so in a negative way; it isn't as OTT as a Moore film, Moore isn't in it... rather than for any virtues. Also, NSNA is such a let down, it fluffs its brief - to make a Connery film and not give it any balls.

But DAD is the one where I just shook my head for an hour or so after, thinking WTF? First Bond I really didn't care for, as in, wow, they do make bad Bond films, was TMWTGG, but I saw that after MR came out.
