Skyfall does a reported $77.7 million dollar weekend opening.

International weekend opening in 25 markets the highest for the year and the second highest ever. Can that be right?!

I certainly hope so. Reinforces that Bond is still relevant to cinema audiences 50 years on. Also it deserves to, it is a great movie.

Skyfall passed the $100 million on Wednesday and is currently performing far ahead of Quantum of Solace in almost every market it has opened in. Skyfall smashed the previous box office record for a Monday in the UK, grossing $6.8 million beating Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 $5.2 million.

Skyfall has broken the UK record for the biggest ever seven days gross, taking £37.2 million. Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson said, "We are very grateful to the Bond fans and all UK cinema audiences for making Skyfall the biggest opening week ever during our 50th anniversary year."

Thunderball took over a billion in today's money.

Folks need to remember that as successful as the Craig films are at the box-office, they're not as big as Goldfinger and Thunderball were in the 1960s.

Skyfall is set to be a huge hit after grossing $156 million this weekend alone. This brings the total to $287 million after just ten days, and it has yet to open in the US.

Probably just as big if not bigger considering the choices and competition we have. You also have to factor in the multiple re-release screenings and the length of time those films were in cinema.

Skyfall grossed £57 million in twelve days to become the biggest film at the UK box office this year, surpassing The Dark Knight Rises. It is also now the biggest Bond film at the UK box office, surpassing the £55.6 million achieved by Casino Royale in 2006.

Skyfall grossed an estimated $32 million on Friday in the US which sets it up for an $88 million weekend that would make it the biggest opening ever for a Bond film, easily surpassing Quantum of Solace' $67.5 million in 2008. Skyfall grossed $4.6 million from the Thursday night IMAX screenings alone.

Skyfall opened to almost $90 million in the US. I'm guessing close to $300 million US and close to a billion worldwide by the time it's done. It should be well past $500 million worldwide this weekend.

Personally, I think a billion dollars worldwide for Skyfall is being rather optimistic. My guess would be somewhere close to $800 million by the end of it's run. Regardless, it's BIG and that can only be very positive regards the immediate future of the franchise. :)

I suspect EON will try to reverse engineer its own film to try and figure out how it was so successful. Unfortunately, I doubt Mendes will return for another.

I suspect you are right regarding Sam Mendes. Skyfall will certainly be a hard act to follow regards box office (if not quality). I suspect EON will want Bond 24 to follow in a similar vein but with perhaps a bit less characterisation and more action, and likely build on the more humorous elements introduced in Skyfall.

I'm not sure about Mendes...depends what he does in between and the quality of the script...but it's been said that Bond 24 will carry over into Bond25 (a two picture story-arc)...so it would make sense to have the same director for both pictures - though not absolutely necessary....and would he want to commit to 2 more Bond movies ?

As for more action over characterisation - I truly hope not....but I fear you could be right....but I really do hope they don't add more of the 'humorous elements' as I think they just over-stepped the mark this time...but only just...

Bond 24 will carry into Bond 25? Interesting. I wonder if we'll get a Blofeld-esque type character in Bond 24. Only time will tell.

Daniel Craig has apparently denied that Bond's 24 and 25 will be a two picture story-arc. He is quoted in an interview with Filmstarts as saying: "All we're trying to do is get the next one sorted out, and that will stand alone."

As for the humour in Bond 24. I don't believe it will go OTT as in some of the past films, certainly not while Daniel Craig is Bond.

Back on topic. Skyfall has passed the $500 million mark and is set to break Casino Royale's record $599 million by the end of this week. Box Office Mojo predicts that it will ultimately earn over $900 million worldwide. Also, Skyfall is on track to become the biggest grossing film of all time in the UK. It looks set to eventually pass Avatar's $150 million record.

Really ? Haven't seen that quote...but I did read one from John Logan who claimed to have talked EoN into a two picture story arc for 24 and 25....he said that they were very keen on his idea...I guess time will tell...

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the release of Skyfall has been delayed in China to ensure (it appears) that it does not overshadow big budget Chinese films due for release in the next month or so. The authorities are now eyeing a late January early February release which means it will now be approx four months before Skyfall's final worldwide box office gross is known.

The inflation list is interesting, not sure what the formula is, but surprising DAD is in front of CR. Would be interesting to know total tickets sold.

After three weeks at the top of the UK box office, Skyfall has been dethroned by The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2. Despite this, Skyfall has surpassed Titanic to become the second highest grossing film of all time in the UK with £80.1 million ($127.4m). It now appears only a matter of time before it surpasses Avatar's record £94 million ($149.6m) haul.

Yes, I believe it is realistic. Skyfall still has plenty of legs even though it is being shown on fewer screens each passing week. I am not sure when the UK run is due to end, if Skyfall's still being screened over the Xmas period it will likely get a little extra boost.

"Skyfall" still managed to pull in 41 million this weekend in the US. The latest "Twilight" film was #1 .
Some "teens" I have spoken to liked "Skyfall" but they found it a bit slow and at times difficult to follow.....but that's what I've come to expect from today's video game addicted, zero attention span, semi-literate teens.
